1. "A modest parade"
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (06.03.07)
What does this mean? That the transvestites will wear dresses that cover their knees and elbows?
2. The Big Lie
mordechai ,   jerusalem   (06.03.07)
This has nothing to do with freedom of expression. I never heard of anyone bothering anyoine in Jerusalem because they are gay. This is an attempt by an anti-Israel organization funded by the anti-Israel Ford Foundation to create tension in Jerusalem
3. When war veterans cannot march, neither can you
Steve ,   USA   (06.03.07)
B"H Why should gay people be given more representation than war veterans in Jerusalem? If the war veterans were not permitted to march because it would make to much noise, neither should the gay people. It is not fair to only have freedoms for gay people and call that the right to assembly when it is not when the opposite political persuastion is deposed of that right. As for in the closet, I feel offended by a gay march since I am unable to march in Jerusalem for what I believe in due to economic and various other constraints. If I am not free to march in Jerusalem as a straight, why should any gay be permitted greater representation in the press and the government? When an orange protester gets beaten for speaking the truth and gets an arreset record, why should not a gay person also if he protests on the street? Is it not the orange representative who has been shoved more in the closet the most? I think that gay people have a lot of representation in Israel and that they should also be kept out of Jerusalem until the straight people are free to raise their voice there too.
4. its a form of basic right to freedom?
jack ,   usa   (06.03.07)
freedom of expression? Well in that case it would also be a basic right of fredom of expression for those who oppose such a march, to hold a protest, or in fact line those same streets on the day in june and voice their dissapproval of the gay pride parade. They may protest not by shooting, or throwing rocks, but by showing up and voicing their opinions as well...no? I oppose it and yet am not a right wing extreamist!!! what a suprise... and I would venture to guess that many others who oppose this blatantly provocative march are not all extremists either There is no "pride" in this parade of sin through the holy city at all
5. Choose
Mike ,   Canada   (06.03.07)
Go in the closet, stay out of the closet Invent a new Gay party, Dont event one JUST STAY OUT OF JERUSALEM! It is a religous city (not just Judaism), and all religons ban Homo-sexuallity. Show some respect instead of trying to force it down peoples throats.
6. THERE MUST BE ANOTHER WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS
Meir Weinstein ,   toronto, canada   (06.03.07)
In the Code of Jewish Law it states that a person that has an inclination for blood should learn to be a shouchet. Everyone has an inclination for something that the Torah forbids. The Torah answer is to direct the inclination towards some act that will have a positive outcome for the Jewish People. Those that have an inclination for 'gay' practices should strive for an answer and they should be helped to find the answer were they could direct there inclination for something positive for the Jewish People. Its time to tone down the 'debate' and come up with solutions.
7. To the anti's
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.03.07)
From the first 5 tb's , 4 are from abroad . I can only say to you : mind your own business . You have nothing to say regarding what happens in MY , not your , Capital . There are others who marche in my , not your , Capital's streets . There are others who demonstrate violently at Kikar Zion . And if you want to condemn this , make first Alyah , then you'll have the right to oppose this parade .
8. Gay Parade
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (06.03.07)
Nobody should be forced to live or stay in the closet. On the other hand, celebrating liberation by dancing on public tables is about as good an idea as celebrating one's heterosexuality on benches in publix parks.
9. Homosexuals would protest a "Heterosexual March"
Jim   (06.03.07)
Especially if the "Heterosexual March" was in the middle of San Francisco... Nobody likes having outsiders marching through the middle of their community *specifically* to disrespect their culture and values! If homosexuals want their values and culture to be respected, let them start by respecting the values and culture of non-homosexuals. What's next in the name of "free speech"? Bestiality lovers demanding to march through the public zoo? Pedophiles demanding to march by public elementary schools? Incest couples demanding to march through family-oriented neighborhoods? Enough is enough.
10. My interest in the Pride Parade..?
enzo ,   london,uk   (06.03.07)
But of course...Ilan Franco! Jerusalem District Police Commander Ilan Franco! Every year, at the time of the Pride Parade, Ynet publishes COOL pictures of Mr Ilan Franco, sporting his cool sunglasses..! Does anybody know their make?
11. A basic right
Rachel ,   Jerusalem   (06.03.07)
Marching is a basic right, not only in jerusalem but in democracies all over the world. LGBTs deserve the same right in Jerusalem.
12. nice thought #6
ecr   (06.03.07)
but they don't hold by the Torah. If you ask me they just want to grab more people. Since they do not have children they always have to get new blood. You do have a good idea though.
13. the closet is the right place for you
(06.03.07)
14. didn't the Haredim learn last time that they lost?
Avi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.03.07)
I would remind my anti gay (and most everything else normal too) haredi neighbours that they made so much noise last time that they had two beneficial effects for the rest of us. 1 They greatly increased they number of people showing solidarity with the Pride Parade in opposition to their violent and anti democratic behavior. 2 They then had to start explaining to their kids what all the fun was about. Not even Haredi kids are that stupid not to ask and wonder exactly all the fuss was about. If they have any sense, they will shut up as they did in previous years, but they do not have any sense so here we go again.

"Transvetism" (cross-dressing) is not neccessarily a gay-lesbian matter;indeed, transvestites disassociate themselves from gay/lesbians.So you can enjoy the parade without any stigma!!!

18. get a life
dudi ,   israel   (06.03.07)
as if being gay is the biggest problem the Jewish people and the state of Israel have to deal with!!! GET A LIFE. all of the gay affirmative narccisits should get one and the antis should occupy their minds with something more meaningful. GET A LIFE

avi ,   ny   (06.03.07)
As long as you are a shnorrer nation requireing money from the US government and galut Jews, as long as you need olim to make up for the arab bithrate and the one million yordim( almost all secular "i'm not Jewish I'm Israeli peace now types who intermarry once in the US faewster than reform) , and as long as you need our tourist dollars, we will speak our mind. Perhaps if "israelis" acted more Jewish, learnt about Judaism in your post-Zionist secular schools, had better cultural icons than transgendered singers , and had fewer abortions you wouldn't need us. P.s. It's not Americas "chuckies" that goto Jewish schools, march at Israeli day parades, visit Israel regularly , study there for a year, and make aliyah. Its Americas "Avi's "that do. America's "chuckies" are too busy becoming gay or marrying Christina's to do any of the above.
22. Freedom of expression - my arse!
YMBMY ,   Modiin   (06.03.07)
SInce when are the gays allowed to overtly disrespect the religion of the Jewish state in the holiest Jewish city on earth? Why should anyone respect them when they don't respect anyone who does not agree with them. Let them march in Sderot. No on second thought, Sderot has suffered enough. Let them march in Ramallah and see how much their freedom of expression is respected.
23. is her name pronounced SOTA?

24. who instigated this?
moish ,   Jerusalem   (06.03.07)
could it be our "fun loving " fporeign minister bird brain Tzipi(Faigy as in faygalah) livni or the daughter of our beleaugered PM Dana (not so international) Olmert or Yossi Beilin?

chuck ,   usa   (06.03.07)
Apparently by making aliyah doesnt give anyone the right to oppose this parade in YOUR COUNTRY!!!!! And if you consider this YOUR country then show some respect to YOUR country and stop degrading moral values!!
26. parade
jj ,   montreal canada   (06.04.07)
Why not have a pride parade for adultery and incest, those are life style choices also. I'm sure every one would agree that they too have rights and should be able to come out of the closet. Same sex, adultery, incest, pedophelia are all condemed by Torah learn to respect the law and stay out of the most Holy place on earth, you are being led by the sitra archa to destroy Jerusalem. Every time you wanted a parade Israel ws attacked. Don't you get the message yet?
27. LIES and INTOLERANCE!!!
Izzy d   (06.04.07)
The first issue that i would like to bring up regarding this disingenuous, misogynistic, article is the LIES and more LIES!!! Starting with: 1) Charedi and right wing opposition to the march. This is misleading by way of misconstruing the real face of the opposition, putting it squarely in the laps of the "fanatics" and those "narrow minded bigots" who cant be reasoned with. Those opposing this indecent assault on our values are MUSLIMS, CHRISTENS, JEWS. In fact the MUSLIMS have threatened to KILL anybody that would DARE to MARCH in or near their neighborhood. 2) regarding THROWING THEM BACK IN THE CLOSET. I fail to understand the responsibility the previous statement would imply belongs to the citizens of Jerusalem that would insure the gayness be in or out or anywhere in the near proximity of whatever closet it may be (not hard to spot, painted pink!!!) I don't need to enforce YOUR self esteem (or lack of). To suggest that we must go out of our way to allow you to overcompensate for your insecurity's while at the same time forcing me to trample over MY values is just the sort of lame liberal hogwash gayness has been sprouting since they realized their father wont accept their "discovered" lifestyle. 3) ladies and ladies, gents and gents, please keep in mind that "democracy" is a "THEORY" Which may be regulated differently in different country's. Not only that but Israel IS NOT A DEMOCRACY by definition but closer to a constitutional theocracy. so in fact whining about "freedom of expression" has NO GROUNDS and is so pathetic when contrasted with your marked intolerance of those who would prefer this march not happen. How many attacks on gayness other then during the tension surrounding a march is there on record" NONE!!!!!!!!!!
28. Perversion Is Not A Right
Yonatan Koss ,   Next stop Israel   (06.04.07)
I can’t believe all the psychobabble I read on this subject, Charles claiming you have to be from Israel when the commandment is to come to Jerusalem every year when you are a Jew. Then there are the apologists who think it is OK for a bunch of sick sexual deviants to flaunt their perverse culture in public. My pragmatic point of view tells me this is abnormal behavior and should not be allowed. Let them rent a hall someplace and parade to a crowed who accepts them. The Israeli people don’t need any more perversion than they already have coming from their government heads.
29. # 21 Avi, Well said!!! A perfect political answer.
BUSH ,   USA   (06.04.07)
30. Charles
BUSH ,   USA   (06.04.07)
Avi has a nice point. You don't appreciate Galut Jews like you should. It is because of the religious Jews whoever they may be that support Israel amongst many liberal Americans, reformed and atheist Jews that are waiting for the chance to blame Israel and support your enemies. If it were up to me i would petition for my tax money that goes to Israel should go to religious organizations only and not the stupid govt that stuffs their own pockets with every dollar they get from us.
