2. true believers never give up their faith
alan ,   round island alaska   (06.05.07)
even if their faith verges on being wrong every day the Palestinean people express their stance toward Israel when they fire rockets into the nation. What never ceases to amaze me is how people can stare right past the reality that is spitting in their face
3. yawn. the YNET left-wing MORON de jure
Moshe ,   Beit Shemesh   (06.05.07)
LEFT brought us Oslo - blown up buses. LEFT brought us "disengagement" - missles in Sderot. now LEFT wings to bring us more.
4. Thinkers ( not Olmert) are required.
moshe shen ,   motzkin, Israel   (06.05.07)
Peace with Hamas, the pals ? Payback is what Israelis want...perhaps even to kill off at the source the Hamas bomb makers, and rocket planners. The question is NOT what we want, but what we can obtain. The problem is that the clown dee-fence min-i -stair and the unversed Olmert can not analyze. An analysis by capable people is required: Kill off the enemy OR find a way to neutralize him ? moshe shen
5. Moderates?!
Jonathan Boyko ,   Ofrah, Israel   (06.05.07)
Oh my God, what a ridiculous article. First of all, the war is already religious, as Palestinian terrorsits are already fanatical and filled w/ hatred towards the Jews through the teachings of Islam. You think preachers preaching hatred daily in mosques have no effect? And children wearing suicide belts saying they'll fight for Allah? Give me a break. The Palestinian politicians may look at it differently, but for many Palestinians the conflict is already religion-based. Also, where are the Palestinian "moderates"? Present them please, because I don't see them. I see no Palestinian demonstrations in support of the peace process, I see no actual initiatives on part of the Palestinians to stop terror. Oh, maybe it's Holocaust-denying Mahmoud Abbas, who just several months ago told Palestinians they should stop fighting with each other and turn against Israel instead? Or is it Hannan Ashrawi, preaching hatred against Israel on every corner of the world? Anyone else? Palestinians deserve to say "yes" to a reasonable offer? Is there a more reasonable offer than the one Barak offered in 2000? I think we all know the result of that... Mr. Segal, too bad you are so naive. Living in a Wonderland is fine, just please, come back to the real world when you write articles. Thousands of Palestinian children, brainwashed since their childhood to hate Jews and Israel will not want peace.
6. It's the land, stupid!
David Whittle ,   Hong Kong, SAR   (06.05.07)
As long as settlers and their backers in government continue to have it their way, it will be a fight to the death to keep the Occupation going. An entire generation of zealots is literally drunk on the subjugation of the Palestinians. It defines who these folks are and 'land-for-peace' is not now, and has never been, in their vocabulary.
7. "we'll be out of the peace-making business for a long time"
amen ,   to that   (06.05.07)
8. This conflict has always been a Religious
Michael   (06.05.07)
conflict. Martin Ross's assertions are red herring statements at best. The fact is Hamas won the election because the Arabs believe that non muslims are not allowed to have control over 'their lands" Whether it is Israel or soon to be England or France. The Bottom line is anything ,but Jews voluntarily packing their bags and leaving will not achieve the "peace" the arabs or their appeasers seek.
9. Narishkeit.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.05.07)
The words of a fool. Clinton's legacy was Oslo. What a success! They brought terrorists & expected a magic transformation into flower-throwing peaceniks. The major obstacle to any settlement (I avoid the word "peace") is Fatah & it's thugs & thieves. Protected by the false label of "moderate", they are hard to get rid of. But get rid of them we must if we want any progress. Oslo is dead & was a costly blunder by well-intentioned daydreamers. But the noise from the suicide bombers woke most of us up. I guess Mr Segal didn't hear them.

11. Moving toward moment of truth
ben ,   singapore   (06.05.07)
TRUTH comes from People who are TRUTHFUL. When did the Gaza TERRORIST ever did anything TRUTHFUL ? TEMPORARY CEASEFIRE- YES WE WILL GIVE THEM ONE SOON ! WE WILL WAIT AND SEE give them MERCY for now !
12. No peace possible in the foreseeable future !
redkmike ,   tel aviv - Israel   (06.05.07)
No Israeli government can make a deal with Hamas and Abbas ultimately wants to destroy Israel too. Only a very strong Israel might perhaps cause these groups to decide that there is no choice but to come to some kind of 'deal' and even that is very unlikely to happen. Israel needs to forget about deals and peace for the foreseeable future at return to total invincibility. Out present conduct only encourages attacks because it suggests that we can be beaten. Sad perhaps but true !
13. This is a really stupid idea.....
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv   (06.05.07)
There can be no peace until the elements (which are tens of thousands) war and terror are eliminated, preferably by the PA government (whatever that is) or by us.
14. I am ok with Joseph Cohen #1
cfs ,   Toulouse, FRANCE.   (06.05.07)
I second that.
15. To #5 david spittle
freejay ,   Israel   (06.05.07)
What has settlers got to do with the muslims stealing Palestine and wanting all of Israel? Go look at the 1921 Balfour declarations before you presume that Palestine belongs to muslims. Regarding the land for peace, we gave them Gazza andlook what happened. They have been offered many times land for peace but Arafat refused. You are obviously blinded and cant see the facts, if you did, then you would agree that what the settlers are doing is legal, and stop using them as a scapegoat. You would also then realise that the existing bogus Palestinians are just a tool for the arabs to try and destroy and take over all of Israel.
16. in other words, everything bad will be israel's fault
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.05.07)
don't blame the people who actually vote for the arch-terrorists. no, they are only impulsive creatures who can only react and cannot understand the implications of securing their future to those who will make their lives a continual living hell, guaranteeing misery for the next 20 years. so if israel doesn't continue to capitulate and concede more, israel only is to blame. how convenient.
17. Mr. Segal never played chess...
Andre ,   Australia / Israel   (06.05.07)
as his complete lack of strategy demonstrates. Seriously, what is the sense of setting a peace plan shortly before an election? The risk of not receiving anything from the otherside is so high... just to start. Go back to your bench Mr. author, your consultancy work seems slightly flawed
18. What a load of garbage. Pals need 2 look at themselves first
(06.05.07)
19. where did they find this putz?
Yisraeli   (06.05.07)
hes almost about to go to shull, open the aron hakodesh and pray for the welfare of the PLO! You mean putz's like this still exist after 13 yrs of 'pieces' of Oslo? At least Hamas are honest about theyre intention whilst Fatah play the double game. But the author wants to fool himself that Fatah really seeks peace if only this and if only that.....a putz always remains a putz.
20. ANY OPPORTUNITY IS AS GOOD AS THE LEADER, SO,,NO OPPORTUNITY
NEVER WILL BE PEACE ,   WITHOUT WAR.......D9   (06.05.07)
21. Treaties
Marvin ,   Orange, USA   (06.05.07)
Israel should not seek or be willing to sign any more treaties, until those that seek a treaty concretely show a desire for peace. Israel is looks like a sick man with his treaty hat in hand, willing to all comers. And eager to sign any kind of treaty sight unseen !
22. Mr.S. article
Paul ,   NewYork, USA.   (06.06.07)
What a nonsense! Does this man will ever stop trying to burry Israel? His fetish with Mr, Clinton is something else. The former president was well avare that arafat gave the order to murder the american ambassador to the Sudan and his deputy yet he numerous times hosted him at the Whitehouse. He also soilled it with the illici affairs with an intern. He ought to hide himself and not take advantage of peoples naivity or who cares attitude.
23. Ignore Dennis Ross
Martin ,   Berbardsville, USA   (06.06.07)
Arabs want to destroy Israel. No peace just kill as many Jews as possible. Until the anti-semitic Pali media and education is replaced, there will never be a true peace. Don't forget. It was Dennis Ross that convinced Clinton not to release Pollard, since the US may need the Pollard card in future Israeli negotiations.
