Heley   (06.06.07)
As a supporter of Israel, I will now prefer the 'Made in Israel' on any other alternative product. I will only buy Israeli disposable razors, towel paper, pickles, classic music, no matter the price!
4. no surprise - it will be the migrant workers again.

7. Remember about twenty plus years ago
jason white ,   afula,israel   (06.06.07)
mercury was injected into Israeli oranges in eurabia?
8. Salmonela in Basil
Oskar Prager ,   Petach Tikva   (06.06.07)
Many years ago Oranges shipped from Israel to England were found to have globules of Mercury underneath the peel, and it was established that the Mercury was injected by someone in England. It would therefore not be surprising to find that Salmonela was put onto the Basil leaves in England by anti-Semites who are not short to find in that country.

10. Salmonela ( UK style )
AlbertoGA ,   Houston, USA   (06.06.07)
Dear Friends A Sabotage to make things worse for us, with the Antisemitic UK. I am not surprised. In any case ...many Al-Kaida Gys and Pals are in London preaching Hate against the people who have invited them. And for sure they do not Love us. If the British people want to have more consideration for terrorists than for Israelis, this is their choice. Shalom, Alberto
11. Try pesto with Israeli basil...!
enzo ,   london,uk   (06.06.07)
The Israeli basil, together with the Genovese type, is the best in the world! Israel has been exporting it for years and there has never been a problem!!! I have tried it with my pesto and loved it.
12. The old tale about Jews...
Paolo Ortenzi ,   Rome, Italy   (06.06.07)
.. they are accused to drink Christian blood, to steal Christian money and to poison Christian people. Centuries repeating such lies by the Europeans, as Goebbels said, transform : "A lie into truth". Despite the fact that British claim not to be part of Europe, British media are also subject to such an insane behaviour. Probably because their financer are all ARABS...
13. Easy to detemine source
Eric ,   Holmdel, USA   (06.06.07)
If the basil had salmonella that is genetically homogenous (identical strain), was grown in three separate places, and was not commingled in distribution within Israel, then it is much more likely that the contamination occurred after import to the UK. To blankly state that this is terrorism is premature, if the bacteria were identical and the salmonella was not commingled in distribution in Israel or the UK, then intentional contamination would appear the presumptive cause. Contamination can occur at any point in the distribution chain from farm to table, to determine the point of contamination one first attempts to discover whether the contamination incidents are single-source or multiple events. If the contamination appears to be single-source, then the distribution chain is traced in reverse to attempt to locate the point of contamination. Once this point is identified, then an attempt can be made to identify the mode of contamination. For multiple events, then the various chains are traced. It is also illustrative to determine if the contaminant is likely to occur, such as bacterial contamination of produce; or is unlikely, such as heavy metal contamination within the interior of a citrus fruit. The food distribution chain is fertile ground for terror: the products are easily accessible, plentiful, easy to contaminate, and the harm is relatively indiscriminate. This form of biological terror, as an economic warfare mode, is likely to increase as fundamentalists of all stripe gain influence and resources. Yet the world must wonder if a tipping point will occur where Israelis (and Jews more generally) begin to use their considerable talents and resources to fight back measure for measure. I saw tonight, and behold! A man was riding on a red horse, and he was standing among the myrtles that were in the pool, and after him were red, black, and white horses (Zechariah 1-8).
14. Of course!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (06.06.07)
But why did they pick on poor basil???
15. Contaminated basil
Darrien ,   UK   (06.06.07)
Given the numerous anti-UK views expressed in this talk-back and others, it is not inconceivable that the basil was deliberately contaminated in Israel prior to shipping to England!
16. (# 9 JOE you contamined the basil, admit it

17. britain is a barbaric and primitive country.

21. #15 Darrien
israeli ,   israel   (06.06.07)
you know what? you might be right, especially if it was contaminated by those Palestinians who can still find their way, illegally mind you, into Israel, looking for work. Yep, that must be it.
22. No. 15 Darrien
NYC Girl   (06.06.07)
Have you stopped to consider why there seem to be a number of anti-British views being expressed here? They didn't appear out of thin air, rather they're a response to boycotts, vilification and a biased media. I've had very close British friends for many years, and I've visited England several times and always felt a great affection for the country. However, the rank Israel-bashing that's been emanating from the UK has now succeeded in giving me a full-blown case of Anglophobia.
23. What the heck is going on in the UK?
Lina ,   USA   (06.06.07)
Boycott of Israeli academics, boycott of Israeli products, contamination of Israeli basil. There seems to be a 5th column in the UK causing the trouble and it's not the Israelis or their supporters. I would shine the light on the low life boycott supporters/leaders. Their purpose is to divide, spread hatred and cause problems. The UK better get a handle on this group because they demean Britain. Meanwhile, where can I get some Israeli basil?
24. have some HIV infected melons to go with your basil?
Tamper-Proof Fruit ,   USA   (06.06.07)
If you really want something delicious, try some of our choice E-coli-laced bagged spinach grown here in the good ol' U.S. of A.
25. I dont want an israeli basil
A mayven   (06.06.07)
only the one from Fawlty Towers UK, a true basil, like most british men. Then, I'll have a bean, but only the british one. British Basil and Bean for ever. British men are either one or the other, usually a mixture of both
