Dr.J ,   U.K.   (06.11.07)
2. you think Olmert is more naive than Bush?
(06.10.07)
3. Have more confidence in President Bush's approach
Steve ,   USA   (06.11.07)
B"H I think President Bush has the right strategy with Syria. I give him my full vote of support on this one. President Bush appears to me to know what he is doing.
4. This Lial can't wait for another Oslo
Yariv ,   Tel Aviv   (06.11.07)
Some people, like this Lial, simply love Jewish blood. For them Oslo War, Gaza war, Lebanon war brings joy.
5. George W. Bush is one of two things
MK ,   USA   (06.11.07)
Either he is a moron, or he is the face of evil. It could be that he is both. I hope neither the Israelis nor the Syrians buy into his insane agenda. I cannot wait to see this US administration changed. The whole world is tired of this junta. Enough is enough.
6. Olmert will be the end of Israel
Low ,   US   (06.11.07)
Olmert is a weak LLL that cannot even stomach a fight for him and his peoples very survival. Olmerts pitifull weakness during the Lebonese war and his indecision while men died followed by half hearted show of strength cost Israel the war and devestated Israel's appearence. Olmert choked not only at crushing Hezbollah but to take the opportunity to hammer Syria showing all that war against Israel even via-proxy would be answered. Now Olmert is begging Syria with the offer of giving the Gaza all the while syria pumps money weapons into Hamas/Hezbollah/anti-western Lebonese Factions. PITIFULL its like offering the executioner the money in porket to swing the axe true. I truely feel sorry for the average Israeli that must be horrified at the Olmert governments absolute weakness during a time that demands strength.
7. I'm with President Bush on this one.
Avraham ,   NYC   (06.11.07)
When the leaders of Israel are complete morons envisioning further withdrawals and surrender of sovereign territories of an already tiny state, it's nothing but a Divine involvement that the U.S. President opposes such a move.
8. Bush is only good when he helps Israel
Nabil ,   washington dc   (06.11.07)
After all Bush did to Israel few seem to be thankful. Bush is right not to deal with Syria unless they come to terms with all the requirements of the US not just of Israel. If Israel is dependent on the US for political and military cover it has to accept that the US will decide when to deal with dictators. Anyway this guy makes it sound as if Bashar Assad is redeemable. Syria's peace intentions are all bogus since they come at a time when they are cornered internationally. Bush has this one completely right.
9. WHO TRUST ASSAD IS AN IDIOT LIKE LIAL. BUSH IS RIGHT
Dave   (06.11.07)
10. This cheese smells real bad
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (06.11.07)
This is getting more bizarre by the minute. Speaking strictly as an American, why the hell should we make deals with the devil, because he, Assad, wants the Golan from Israel? And since when does Syria need the US to run interference for them with Arabs and Lebanon? Olmert can’t say often enough that he’s ready to concede the Golan, but now, for some reason, that’s not what Syria wants, unless the US works a deal for Syria with the Arabs and Lebanon, so they can distance themselves from Iran??? This sounds like a big, fat trap of some sort for Israel and the US, with Mahmoud pulling Syria’s, Hamas’ and Hizbollah’s strings. What kind of total horses—t is this? If Israel gives back the Golan, which, I think, would be one stupid thing to do, why should there be war between Israel and Syria??? Iran wants war with Israel, Syria merely being the means to tie the hands of the US and to be the frontline victim, if it doesn’t go quite as expected and if Hamas’ and Hizbollah’s attacks won’t make Israel just collapse and crumble. Hamas and Hizbollah are not getting armed to the teeth by Iran for peace in Lebanon and for lovey-dovey co-existence with Israel. Mahmoud couldn’t care less about Syria, Lebanon or the PA. He wants to wipe out Israel, and if a few of his “friends” go down the tubes in the process, he doesn’t care about that, either. But, if the US could be taken out of the equation and talked into some sort of neutrality or, god forbid, non-aggression pact with Syria – all, of course, in the name of weaning Assad away from Iran - it would make it so much easier for Mahmoud’s minions to fall on Israel from all sides, wouldn’t it? Last but not least, let’s not forget where Saddam’s old Baath Party buddies ended up: in Syria. Somehow, I can’t believe that they, all of a sudden want to make nice with Bush. And what is this other tidbit??? Until a few days ago and at least according to many tb’s, the US, supposedly, wouldn’t “let” Israel beat the hell out of Hizbollah, and now we encouraged it. Which was it? For those of you who can’t wait for Bush to be gone, you “ain’t seen nothing, yet.” Those moonbats of ours, enthusiastically supported by, god only knows why, most of our moonbatty Jews, will hang Israel out to dry and not give it a second thought.
11. I dont trust Olmert one iota
Ari   (06.11.07)
And on this issue I trust Bush far far more. After all its Olmert who wants to appease international terror by giving the Golan away and Bush who is unwilling to appease syrian terrorism and is willing to stand his ground. In this situation Bush reminds be of Begin hitting the terrorists in Iraq and Lebanon, and Olmert resembles the left wing defeatist stooges of the past who appeased terrorism like rabin, barak, and sharon.
12. Alon Lial is joking, isn't he?
Allen ,   US   (06.11.07)
I cannot believe I find myself in agreement with an anti-Israel US president over a PhD or a doctor and former Foreign Ministry director-general. Dr. Lial is joking. Isn't he? He wants Israel to give away the store to a tyrant. "Let's trade land for peace with the murderer in Damascus!" You know the one who told Pope John Paul II that the Jews murdered Christ and are the enemy of religion? This man is a Dr.? Dr. Alon Lial? "Beam me up Scotty!"
13. The Leftist Israeli press pushes idiots to the forefront
malcolm   (06.11.07)
Somewhere... in the twisted cockles of Israeli editorial departments, there are cabals of ssuicidal lunatics with suicidal agendas. This small group of people have turned Israel into a joke. Israel has turned from being a force to reckon with to a third world country on the brink of destruction. And these lunatics keep pushing their suicidal agenda.
14. To #13
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (06.11.07)
Ahhhh, but look at it this way: Whatever horrible disaster should happen, the groundwork is being laid: It will have been Bush's fault. I don't know how much good it'll do, but the noise will be deafening.
15. To #12
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (06.11.07)
He doesn't want Israel to give away the store. He wants the US to buy it for Syria, so they can give it to Iran.
16. Israel war with Syria
ayal ,   NYC, USA   (06.11.07)
this article is a perfect indication that the US and Israel are looking to attack iran and are looking for ways to bring iran to the table...
17. #10 I don't always agree with you....
Jan ,   usa   (06.11.07)
But I gotta say I think you hit the nail right on the head with this one.
18. Another idiotic "deal"
Zvi   (06.11.07)
What Syria wants is clear: (1) Relief from the Hariri and other problems causing American pressure. (2) Willing to accept the golan from israel (no kidding) (3) Blackmailing Israel that if she does not deliver the US Syria will make war on her. The piece does not specify what exactly will Israel get out of that. P.S. Did'nt Israel officially annex the Golan Hights?
19. When you bash Pres. Bush, at least mention the US position
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (06.11.07)
When you have a piece such as this without even mentioning the other side. Ie that Syria is causing the deaths of countless US troops in Iraq, is illegally involved in the undermining of the Lebanese govt, going as far as assassinating a political leader, is a State Sponsored Terrorist regime, and a totatlitarian govt. Now they are positionning themselves to attack Israel on the Golan as they have done in the past. WHY DOES A TALKBACK HAVE TO MENTION THE US POSITION?. Because YNET doesnt have the editors to have even a limited balance in their journalism.
20. I'll take Bush over self-hating leftists any day
Martin ,   Ra'anana   (06.11.07)
21. no. 13, well said
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (06.11.07)
Alon Liel is a nobody, a minor ex-diplomat on a little freelance peace jag, and the Israeli press makes him a big star because they still can't get over the idea that we can bribe vicious dictators and terrorists into liking us
22. An unholy alliance; Arab dictators and delusional leftists.
Ken Jurist   (06.11.07)
When will the delusional left understand. Land for Terror camps dont work. Giving up Jewish land just leads to terrorism. Every inch of land Israel gave the Palestinians was used as terror camps. Almost two years ago, a historic event happened that was not noticed by the Israeli left. The Syrian regime recognized for the first time, that Alexandretta (Hatay) is sovereign Turkish territory. This after dozens of years where Syria strongly demanded Turkish withdrawal from this area. For dozens of years, Turkey was unwilling to discuss any kind of compromise in Alexandretta. It never expressed a willingness to cede Alexandretta in exchange for peace. It never negotiated a withdrawal from Alexandretta. Its attitude was clear and simple. Alexandretta is ours. Period. If Alon Liel was Turkish he would have demanded Turkey surrender Alexandretta to terrorist Syria. As Turkey showed, Peace for Peace is the way to go. I'm ashamed that Ynet didn't even bring up the Hatay example. Liel we all know would give up his mother to make a deal with the devil.
23. Exchange Lial to Syria and keep the Golan
Ken Jurist   (06.11.07)
Alon Lial is an extreme lefty who wants to surrender to the Arabs. This guy will give away Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv if he had the chance. Lial wants the murderer of Harari off the hook. Lial also opposed Israel killing Yassin and Rantisi. The biggest Islamic terrorists are head-quartered in Syria. Lial believes in Land for Terror camps. If Ynet had any smarts, they would have brought up Hatay (Alexandretta) The Syrians also said Hatay is part of Syria. The difference is, Turkey was united that Hatay belongs to Turkey and not Syria. Lial would have surrendered Hatay if he had the chance.
24. Beware the Golden Calf which lurks near Tel Dan
Cult Buster ,   Perth, Australia   (06.11.07)
The Golan has become an idol, to both the Left and the Right. Never forget that only Hashem can save Israel. If Syria wants peace, then we will soon see the sword which struck down Kanaan falling upon the necks of Mashaal and Nasrallah. Yet if the Alawites refuse to take the Golan and go their way in peace, then it means that Bashar and his Ghulat cabal will never abandon the plots of Tehran. The true obstacle to Damascus joining the alliance with moderate Sunni states against the Nuclear Holocaust plot of the Iranians is not Bush, but a weird Trinitarian cult that substitutes Ali for Christ. Bashar has been a remarkably active servant of Iran so far, multiplying the woes of the Sunni in Lebanon and Iraq with great vindictiveness. Perhaps it is time to deal with someone in Damascus who will not persecute the faith of the majority of Syrians at every opportunity, just because its adherents refuse to make an idol out of Ali the companion. If Bashar is wedded to playing the role of Il Duce to Ahmadinejad’s Hitler, then let him be prepared to play the piano with his neck.
25. Time to change the bed ?
Teague ,   USA   (06.11.07)
Umm . . . should we ask whose security interest is most served by an Israeli/USA alliance ? Oh, I get it. . . it is the interests of a particular Lame Duck US president which are most served. It will be interesting to see how well the Left in the US takes care of the security interests of Israel. If they do as well as the Israeli Left, there may be no one 'left' to complain. If the above sarcasm seems partisan, please weigh its worth by Lial's remarks. Every time Israel depends upon another nation for peace, it proclaims its own unfaithfulness. That is not a left/right criticism, nor need it be a self-righteous one.
26. Bush to blame ...? I don't think so
Jerry Johnstone ,   Houston, Texas   (06.11.07)
I am so tired of the world's problem being blamed on the United States, and or President Bush. If anyone should know the reasons why the United States does not talk to Syria. This upcoming war with Syria, is something Syria has been planning for a very long time. If anyone is to blame, I would be looking toward Iran. It ought to be clear by now that Syria, the terror groups in that region of the world do not move, unless Iran gives its blessing. Isn't Iran that wants to 'wipe Israel of the map'? Think that may have something to do with it? By the way, Syria was threating war if Israel didn't give up the Golan Heights ... Olmert wants to give it away and Syria still wants war ..... does this tell you anything? Maybe you need to go in a room and close the door and stay there, until your common sense returns. 27. the conservative voice of reason in the wilds
AY_Lamb ,   USA   (06.11.07)
attention "American Proselytizers" and hordes of chimpy lovers. I know you are afraid and see the winds of change blowing and the reign of your evangelical "G_d-head" coming to an end. Chimpy is on the way out and he and his followers will have to return the private sector where they can continue to plunder, manipulate and obliterate. Their palatial estates await, along with congregates and house staffs struggling on sub minimum wage while trying to pay for "English as a second language classes". I know the relinquishing of power authority and dominion is hard and the dream of owning Israel and building bold beautiful and magnificent cathedrals is hard to release but, have no fear and take heart because the path to your goal of global absorption is merely delayed. After the 08 elections reasonable and moderate Democrats will regain the executive branch and they will appoint the occasional Liberal and progress will resume but, they like all the creatures that inhabit the Olam are not perfect and they will make mistakes and the Rush Limbaughs, the Fox and Fascist and the Glenn Becks of the world can highlight and capitalize on the errors and in 8 or more years "who knows" maybe you will get your beloved power back. your Neo-Con friend and comrade in arms K"H A"YL "Hillary 08"!!!! yeah "rock on"!!!
