In the past few days I have read alot about you, your life and your opinions on Israel. Do you know why? Because there are loads and loads of international political fora that are reporting AND enjoying your views on "fascist" Israel. It goes without saying that we are all entitled to express our opinions, but clever people like you and me should think at least twice before stating that in Israel there exists today "belligerence, growing fascism and surging nationalism"!!!

To claim the Shoah is the source of Israel's current lack of trust in the world community is blind, foolish and utterly wrong. Yes, most Israelis deeply distrust the "world community" (ie: UN) - but for real reasons with real background and really long years of patiently trying to work with them. Is it possible that this shoah trauma that has caused "belligerence" is something personal with Burg? Perhaps he should consider this.

They would renounce political assassinations carried out by the Israeli government . They would truly seek meaningful dialog with their neighbors in the Middle East. This is the only way that your country will every know peace and security. To do otherwise is suicidal.

This whole Burg issue seems like sour grapes with Israeli society and especially an emotinal family issue. What better way to get even with "dad" than to completely go against everything he stood for? Why Mr. Burg, I do believe those mis-named qualities are the same ones that have kept you & your family alive all these years! The only thing'plaguing' Israel these days seem to be tidalwave of whining, sniveling, and self-loathing affected by the Left/Progressive community. Beware the rot from within!

I figured it was an absolute mistake to invite him to the counter-ISM conference at Duke in 2004. Now this just reinforces my belief that he was more fit for their conference than ours.

Burg has made a series of statements that are a quite neutral assessment of the situation, and has ventured a theory to explain that situation. His theory is also quite neutral. What is surprising is the small torrent of abuse posted here by a tiny self-selected group of internet readers. As a psychiatrist, it's always of interest to me to watch individuals like these in action.

If you have followed the history of this Burg you will know he is not even a shadow of his father. This Burg is not stupid hes highly learned but wow he comes up with some real doozies. He is a very confused individual and always comes up with the most extreme comments, maybe hes afraid people have forgotten him. So he needs headline catchers. Either way and his learnedness notwithstanding, hes always been a putz and a shmuk at best. Nothing new. At least he can claim fame from the enemies of the Jews and Israel. I wish he would grow up already. But I wont hold my breath.

I must say, he speaks very honestly and the loss of trust is an issue. i hope Israel is strong enough to over come this paradox of fear and power. good luck people we are counting on you. do the right thing. stop with the over reaction to the Palestinians. the grief you are causing them will only cause problems. The reason Israelis are, as you imply, paranoid, is not because of "being fed lies by their leaders" but because they had to deal with threats of annihilation numerous times. Were you alive in 67 in Israel or in 73 when the country was about to be invaded from all sides, little girls looking in the outskirts of Tel Aviv for Arab soldiers whose sole purpose, as stated by their own Egyptian translated-to-Hebrew radio stations played in Israel to cause fear, was to rape and slaughter every last Israeli? Were you alive when you had to watch as Nasser gathered crowds of people from every conceivable Arab country, with little children and old women all chanting "death to israel! Destroy the Israelis ! Death to the Jews!", and sending their soldiers off to the border while the UN buffer force decided to pack up and leave by the request of Nasser? Were you alive when the Japanese and German terrorists hijacked planes and separated the Jews ( more apartheid than anything you claim) and took them as hostages in Africa (Uganda), or just opened fire in the airport with the intent to kill as many as possible? The reason Israelis are "fascist" is, as this article states, BECAUSE the world displays a biased and unfair anger towards Israel, whose numerous positive contributions and humanitarianism is completely ignored or denied by the likes of you, and whose right to self-defense is interpreted as solely "belligerence" deserving of "payback a thousandfold". Israelis have to deal with the threat of annihilation every day, they are NOT, as you say, "fooled" by leaders who display 'hyperbole". Hell, just your post alone is enough to give an Israeli cause for worry, the statements of neo-nazis and muslim extresmists on the internet is enough to convince Israelis why they must take a hardline stance and once again, not "hyperbole" by leaders. Israelis know the good side to their own nation, and know that people like you don't, and won't, and THAT's the reason why any hyper-nationalism exists. Until you live in Israel, you can't be an expert on Israeli psychology.
