what has happened here. Peres is the individual most responsible for the plague of severe terrorism that began in Israel in 1994 and has not stopped since then. His policies of welcoming Arafat and the PLO here, and creating the terrorist-run Palestinian Authority, are responsible for the plague. He has never repented and never admitted that he was wrong. He would do the same thing again today if he could. He is a prime reason for the death, injury, and traumatization of thousands of Israelis. It might be more excusable as an honest, albeit terribly grave, mistake if he had apologized for it, but he never has--he still sticks up for Arafat and says he deserved his Nobel Peace Prize. It's sort of devastating that many Israelis don't understand this and apparently never will. And he's now president. He will not conform to the limitations of his office and will deviously try to start running Israeli foreign policy again.

How did THIS happen? This is a definitive disaster of the most drastic and horrific proportions. I would evacuate and come back later. Fuck destiny. Shimon Peres came with his parents to this land - BEFORE there was an Israel. He grew up fighting to develop a state alongside groups of ill-equipped, idealogs - fueled with nothing but a dream, a bit of hope and a ton of endurance. Today we are a thriving democracy because of men like Peres - and he is one of the last of an amazing generation. His 84 year old eyes have seen what we can, today, only read about in history books. He helped carve our nation. State "President" in Israel, is a non-political, ceremonial post reserved for men and women who have made great contributions, elder statesmen and great thinkers. So, YES Peres is the very best we have. The very best we could do. And of that we can be very proud.

as far as i recall Peres has NEVER actaully one anything, besides an MK seat! he only go to places either because someone was killed impeached or by accident. this is a disgrace, b/c people pulled out thats why he is there! he is anti relgious, and is not a great rep for our state!
