Par for the course. Gov't has become the employment agency for the incompetent.
4. #'s 1 & 2 - Don't Be So Paranoid.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.17.07)
A few hundred poverty stricken Africans fleeing persecution is no security threat. If they're Christians, there is no problem whatsoever. If they're Muslims, maybe they can convert to Budhism or something since obviously Islam has not done much for them. I don't advocate opening our borders to unrestricted non-Jewish immigration, but these unfortunates are already here so what would you like to do with them?
5. israelis are mad people
cordier   (06.17.07)
If you accept these muslim sudanese soon one thousand muslim a day will cross sinai with the help of the state of Egypt happy to islamize israel and to get ride of no educted people... it is madness... Leftists people in their beautiful houses of raanana who think more muslim less jewish religious coercition don t understand...your israel will be gone and you will have a muslim coercition rule...
6. Darfurians

Dear Tamar, Finally! This is not only a balanced and positive article, it also, for one of the first times, recognizes the pivotal role of the UNHCR in the Sudanese refugee issue in Israel. Until now other NGO's have walked away with all the credit. It is good that things are set right, eventhough UNHCR is not the one that is set, or sets itself in the lime light for its crucial work. All NGOs in Israel would not (and they know it) be able to do as much and continue to do it without the silent management, vis-a-vis the authorities, of this issue. One point though: be reminded Tamar, only about one third of the Sudanese entering Israel are actually from Darfur. The others are mainly from the South, where the war is over, and to where they can return (which is exactly the reason they irregularly move to Israel, since in Egypt they have been told this fact by UNHCR, which is involved in their repatriation). Alex
7. Terry, how many would you accept?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,Israel   (06.17.07)
Some of the Sudanese are Christian yet many are Muslims. Why are you so wiiling to accept Sudanese Muslims and Morrocan Muslims(like your boyfriend) into Israel yet you are constantly sending emails advocating the removal of Palestinian Muslims?
8. U r jealous
williams ,   israel   (06.18.07)
Just as there r so many Israelis in all over he world so is sudanese in Israel. Its only becos they are helpless. Israelis go to the USA and work on carts n the malls without permits but yet they do so.There r many israelis in Africa,do u think the world is for your father...?????Jealousy will kill u
9. #7 Judah in Golan Hights.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.18.07)
I'm not so willing as you say - but I'm in no way a racist. I certainly don't advocate un-restricted non-Jewish immigration. But a few exceptions won't undermine our security. And the reason I do advocate transfer of Arabs out of Israel is ONLY security - and I feel lousy that I see this as necessary to our survival as a Jewish State. I don't think that way about Druze, nor even Bedouin, or any non-Jews for that matter. As for my boyfriend (you have a good memory) - he is an ex-Muslim, definitly not an anti-Semite, & is as deserving of escaping from a rotten ideology that he has come to dislike intensely as anyone else in his situation.
10. health checks
rj ,   england   (06.18.07)
have they had health checks to make sure they are not bringing hiv/aids , tb etc... into the country... are they moslems or christians ??? are they Israel haters or Jew haters... do any of these checks go on before letting them into the country... it seems you get more hassle coming into Israel through Ben Gurion airport than coming through the backdoor as a refugee ....
11. Refugees
Simcha ,   USA   (06.20.07)
You will never see this story on the BBC-they would most likely criticize Israel for not taking in tens of thousands of refugees from Gaza....how many Darfurians has the UK accepted? I love to hate their hypocritical one sided coverage. Bloody anti semites- go to hell. Where is Saudi Arabia and the other 21 Arab nations......oh that's right- the Saudis don't recognize other religions
12. Are they Jews or Christians?
Claudia ,   Tampa USA   (08.02.07)
Not one single article specifies and yet I've been approached for a contribution to help these people through the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem that was tasked by the Israeli government to help raise money to assist the refugees. YET no one seems to know whether they belong in Israel religiously. I hate to sound callous but I don't believe Israel needs to shoulder the burden of more Muslims. I am amazed that no one in their neighboring countries are willing to take some responsibility for these people. The lackluster UN has only just agreed to send in a larger number of peace keepers for what ever that means. African peacekeepers don't have the best track record. I guess we really are our brothers keepers for Islam certainly is not.
