It looks Israel never looses a chance to make more ennemies. After the withdrawal from lebanon in 2000 , people from the South Lebanon Army ( that were Israel Allies ) were abandoned. Israel lost the oportunity to ensure the allegiiance of lebanese that in the future might be useful since they knew the terrain in south lebanon and had contacts there. An oportunity lost. Palestinians claim that Gaza is their homeland. That's how they justify their propagandized overuse of the term "occupation" in order to blame Israel for everything and avoid personal accountability for any of their problems. If it's their homeland, they cannot be called refugees while they're still in Gaza, only if we let them into Israel.

I agree that the treatment of the South Lebanon Army was a mistake. But this is because Israel abandoned an avowed ally in distress. The Palestinians are not Israel's allies. Fatah's military wing continued planning armed attacks against Israel up until a few weeks ago. Fatah-affiliated schools glorify 'shahids'. In terms of the average Palestinian, even alleged Fatah sympathizers, there is no allegiance to Israel. Given the moves Israel has made in the past to try and warm itself up to the Palestinians (giving them guns, gifting them greenhouses, etc) and the way that such gifts were treated with contempt, there is no precedent whatsoever to suggest that letting in refugees unchecked will win the allegiance of Palestinians. In fact, precedent shows that they will take any kindness by Israel for granted and use their access to the nation to undermine it.

Now is the time for UNRWA to fulfill its mandate and help the "refugees' whom they have been so U.N.-helpful to for nearly 60 years. UNRWA has chosen to ignore the UN's own charter on Refugees and re-write it specifically so that they have not had to help the Arabs in Israel, but have perpetuated the problem with their hypocritical policies. This is NOT ISrael's problem, we withdrew from Gaza and gave Arafat some of the land he had been screaming for, and what happens? We now see the raw evil of Arab brothers killing Arab brothers, Muslim against Muslim, as in Iraq: we see Hamas red in tooth and claw murdering with a blood lust not seen since Fatah did the same in Ramallah and Bethlehem to Hamas'niks! Let the Arab countries and their oil rich sheikhs finally do what they should have done 60 years ago, and open THEIR borders to their Arab brothers, and let the UNRWA be disbanded, and so close one of the darkest chapters in the UN's clouded history!
