1. This is Democratic Israel!
roy lboy ,   washington DC   (06.17.07)
The Haredim have a right to protest against the parade and the gays have a right to have a parade. It's called democracy.
2. Why does a MINORITY have so much power in Israel?
Miriam ,   Jerusalem   (06.17.07)
90% of Jews eat kosher and fast on Yom Kippur. 10% of Jews do not fast on Yom Kippur and don't eat kosher, but eat neveilot and treifot - ham, rabbits, etc. These 10% consider themselves "The Elite" (with what??). These are" the judges" and make the decisions for the other 90%. (Any surprise the court is so corrupt?) Is this called democracy?
3. WHY ARE THEY UPSET?
stude ham   (06.17.07)
did anyone detect a woman anywhere in that photo of the haredim protesters? haredim men are so fanatic about separating themselves from women and not allowing to be seen together with women that it is impossible to separate some of their practices from those done by the gay communities. Unless you believe that dancing with nothing but other men, as the haredim do, is anything but gay.
4.  to # 1
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.17.07)
It would be right , if they were not violent , did'nt throw stones , garbage and so . That's no democratic behaviour anymore . But "democratic behaviour " is not in their vocabulary , it's replaced by "hatefull violent behaviour"
5. FEAR THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY !!!!
marvin ,   orange, USA   (06.17.07)
Man's law's and democracies, ARE subject to GOD's law's
6. #4 A true heathen proclaiming to be Jewish.
Josiah ,   Asdod, Israel   (06.17.07)
what? Have you not read of violent behavior in the Tenach? What about Abraham going after Lot? What about all the uprisings in the Tenach? These weren't just little skirmishes of protest. They were adamant of driving sin out of the land, and out of their camps. But I guess you who are a non-believer could never relate to Abraham. Why? Because Abraham BELIEVED IN HASHEM, and it was counted unto him as righteousness. Why celebrate Passover, or Hannachah? Heck, why live in Israel at all? You are not a Jew. You are no different than a Palestinian. They don't belive in Hashem either. They take the pages of the Tenach and use it for toilet paper. Perhaps you do too. You have no right to comment on what religious people do or not do. Why? Because you DON'T believe in Hashem or that he exists. So what they do in demonstrating against sinful practices should matter little to you. Hashem never made it easy or comfortable for people to live in sin. Neither should we.
7. Can someone out their Enlighten us:
Miriam ,   Jerusalem   (06.17.07)
If this abomination is not immorality, what exactly IS "immorality"? And what is "modesty"? Or would you say that in the 21st century "immorality" and "modesty" is obsolete?
8. Charles: Is "Immorality" & "Modesty" in YOUR vocabulary?
Miriam ,   Jerusalem   (06.17.07)
If so, what do these words mean according to you? And by the way, Chaim, why don't we hear from you when the Seculars (Peace Now and other Leftists) throw stones and injure police and civilians during their protests? Where are you then? Why do we hear from you ONLY against Haredim and G-d? You have such hatred in your heart against Haredim and G-d. Time for you to return to the pathways of your ancestors.
9. Why do the Gays persist
Guy ,   Israel   (06.17.07)
in provoking everybody ? I am totally irreligious but my leanings are with the Haredim this time. Gays have the same rights as all other humans, they did not ask to be born, they are a product of nature just like all of us, their activities are not unnatural or evil but the fact that they insist on parading their leanings in public is wrong. The reactions and protests of the Haredim are wrong tenfold. Is this how we wish to present ourselves to the world, as street thugs, burning public property, attacking police and causing chaos. Is there justification for this behaviour in Jewish teachings, would our sages have condoned this. I think not.
10. Homosexual parade
Reuven ,   Petach Tikvah   (06.17.07)
The homosexuals do not have a 'right' to hold a march in Jerusalem, or any other city in Israel for that matter. This is not because they are homosexuals, but rather that they should respect other peoples sensibilities who find homosexuality unacceptable and does not need to be paraded across our cities. Today homosexuals are not put in prison for being homosexuals, or restricted in other ways, such as in the job market. Therefore there is no need to flaunt their particular brand of sexuality, anymore than a normal hetrosexual person should flaunt their sexuality in public.
11. what's what
Free Jerusalem   (06.17.07)
Miriam, there's a huge difference between eating kosher/fasting on Yom Kippur and forcing your wishes on others, especially in a violent way. Stude ham, No, haredi behaviour is not gay, it's just chauvinistic. Gay men are gay not because they dislike women, the origins of homosexuality are much more complicated.
12. No word from YNet on POLICE BRUTALITY on Haredim!
Miriam ,   Jerusalem   (06.18.07)
Israeli police are RESHA'IM GEMURIM towards the religious! Shame on them! And YNet sympathizes with these resha'im. Shame on you!
13. No commitment to children is no commitment to land
Steve ,   USA   (06.18.07)
B"H If people cannot commit to having children, what investment is there in the land? Who is going to stand up for Israel in the face of her enemies, a mother of 10, or someone who does not want children? The mother of 10 has a lot to lose, versus the person who has no desire for children has no desire for a home for these children. I think it is wrong to glorify the homosexual livestyle. It is fruitless and shows no commitment for the land. In the end, those with 10 children are going to have to defend Israel. Why not get started now, so that it is clear that those who have commitment to the land have no intention of giving it up; of course the counter activities should be very strongly against any glorification of homosexuality. Israel's enemies love immorality paraded on Jerusalem's streets by Jews, and this is no time to give them any further favor. They have enough motivation already.
14. # 10 Reuven
Guy ,   Israel   (06.18.07)
Well spoken Sir !
15. immature adolesent grownup TBackers
izzy d   (06.18.07)
I love it when in a moment of true confusion there are those that would invoke the sages of the torah and say,"would they condone this sort of thuggery and vandalism?" and the answer is YES. in fact this is small time meat and potatoes compared to what should have been. the sages teach us to HATE and FIGHT with all our hearts to banish evil and those that would practice evil from our midst. the charedim do not go out and find gayness to hurt. but when the gayness would come into our midst!!!! OF COURSE!!!! as if the torah care about democracy!!! haha the invention of th past 200 years with refinement by the blessed sages of the liberals and the elites should OBVIOUSLY take precedence. what a load of BS!!!!
16. police at protest
jonatan ,   sdom   (06.18.07)
just recieved film clip of police brutality, its unbelievable pictures, even the ynet picture of police pulling this poor elder Sfardic man tells is all.
17. YNet incites as usual
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (06.18.07)
99.9% of the protestors assembled peacefully. 0.1% (half of whom were juveniles) got rowdy.
18. STOP PARADE AT ANY MEANS!!!!!!!!
(06.18.07)
19. Haredim - A few Devoted. There is Hope of Jewry!
ilana   (06.18.07)
20. embarrassment
eliezer ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.18.07)
Why did the police decide to give a permit to somethiing that is so contraversial when the majority do not want it? What happened to Democratic values?
21. GAYS SHOULD BE ANYWHERE THEY WANT TO BE.
DEBRA ,   USA   (06.18.07)
THAT IS WHAT HASHEM WOULD WISH FOR THEM.
22. Here's a suggestion!
Steve G ,   Kew Gardens, NY, USA   (06.18.07)
Maybe if they had some combat training in the IDF they'd be able to fight with police better. Join up! (It's worth considering.)
23. Haredim Jihat over this Gays is OK and GOOD !
ben ,   singapore   (06.18.07)
; - ) ~ Please carry on with the Protest ; - 0~
24. Time to move to Gaza
Noah ,   New York, NY   (06.18.07)
Now there's a place where you'd never see a parade like that. It's a place where religious men dressed in black use violence to enforce their idea of morality. Sounds perfect - I bet the Haredim would love it there.
25. immature izzy d (15)
sk ,   USA   (06.18.07)
"... as if the torah [sic] care [sic] about democracy!!!" How immature can you get, izzy? No doubt Torah does not care about democracy; that is why adults who have learned something from 3000 years of history prefer that political power not depend on Torah or any other religious doctrine (including Sharia). Democracy is the only system known to be capable of joining disparate segments of society together with reasonable efficiency. It is also the only political system in which market capitalism can be expected to flourish. The Pentateuch (and all of what is called the bible) is indeed bloody in parts. But if you want to get down into the text, you fill find no tolerance for Haredi leeches. The Maccabees did not wear clown suits.
26. Very sad
Lyn ,   US   (06.18.07)
What I don't understand is why can't the homosexuals understand how hurtful this is to so many? Why does it have to be Jerusalem of all places in the world to make a statement? I understand you all want your rights, you want to be accepted but don't you understand that by what you are doing, you are causing more and more people to lose respect for you. It seems when anyone disagrees with you all that they are labeled homophobic and intolerant which is sad and honestly, calling people names like that is old, it is not true and people are starting to realize that their opinions matter just as much as the homosexuals. I think the majority of people throughout the world have had enough of political correctness. Another thing and I am asking this sincerely, why is it necessary for homosexuals to act so promiscuous in public, literally parading down the street half naked and doing things in the parade that we, the public should never know about, we don't want to know about, things that are supposed to be left in the privacy of your bedroom. I have seen this happen with my own eyes and I really felt more sadness than anger. What is this teaching our children and young adults? Out one side of your mouth you promote safe sex and education about aids and then turn right around and parade down the street looking like you belong in a porn movie. Lastly, Jerusalem is G-d's holy city, can't you respect that, can't you see the pain you are causing? Btw, the people in the article that are so angry, beneath that is sadness and a feeling of helplessness. I can see that very clearly.
27. #7 Immorality, #11 Forcing your wishes
Mary ,   Canada   (06.18.07)
I am afraid I have to agree with you. Immorality and modesty if not obsolete are certainly on the way out in this century. I am a Christian who lives in the democratic society of Canada and yet if I voice my opinion that I do not accept homosexuality as a feasible alternatiave lifestyle, I am homophobic. Even in some of our churches they are blessing same sex unions despite what it says in the Bible. I absolutely do not condone violent behaviour but this has become a situation where a group are inciting and enticing G-d fearing individuals to react and then condemning them. I would hate to see what would happen on the streets of Toronto if we held an anti-gay parade. The wishes of the gay community have become much more accepted in this age because we are forced to accept or suffer the negative implications that go along with not accepting. We, who do not support them, carry no weight. We are condemned as 'sick' for not accepting them with open arms. What is their 'real interest' in holding the parade in Jerusalem? Do you not think they know what an affront this is to the religious? That is the very purpose. They, who cannot accept themselves, will even try to force G-d to accept their lifestyle. Although as I stated I cannot condone the use of violence, I stand for the right of these men to speak from biblical authority against this parade. It is unfortunate, that because a few individuals of the haredi community have fallen into the trap of reacting violently, their point is diminished and we are tempted to see all of them as immoral.
28. I went to Congregation B'Nai David in Visalia California...
Rebekah ,   California   (06.18.07)
to see a confirmation of two teenage boys into the congregation after years of "study". Each gave a speech and one of the speeches was a call for tolerance of homosexuality. I thought to myself, didn't they STUDY the TORAH? And doesn't the TORAH sy it is an abomination to ha'Shem for a man to lie with a man the way a ma lies with a woman? I always thought that referred to sex, but perhaps that means a man should not be a liar to another man like he is a liar to a woman. At least, that is what the homosexuals would want people to believe since they do not want ha'Shem to condemn what they do. But Malachi said ha'Shem does not change. The narrow way to heaven is heterosexuality or abstinence. That grieves me because I have a cousin who is a lesbian and to think she is going to hell is sad for me. If only she would live with her partner and enjoy her company without sex.
29. Immorality
Cindy ,   USA   (06.18.07)
Miriam asks: "If this abomination is not immorality, what exactly IS "immorality"?" Immorality is threatening injury to people and damage to the property of others who don't agree with you. Not only is it immoral, it is absolutely shameful to watch. I also happen to believe it was immoral to see my children shunned by the rest of the frum community after my former husband came out as a transgender person. However, after thinking about that, I now believe that it was a good thing which happened to us- after all, if we were still part of the frum community then perhaps chas v'shalom my sons would become as hateful and judgmental as the men burning trash and throwing stones.
30. #21 DEBRAH
ELIO ,   CHICAGO   (06.18.07)
#1 FIRST LET THEM TRY THIS IN MECCA OR VATICAN CITY. why is it only our screwed up Israeli govenrment that would allow this??? no back bone. it is the same mental illness that threw 100,000 Jews out of gaza to make way for Hamastan! (any coincidence that the day Franco sighned the permits hams started the destruction of fatah?) #2 G-d prescription in the Torah is sting to death regardless of the fact that in this sick era it has become acceptable. if I'm born a kleptomaniac is it ok for me to steal? if Im born a pyromaniac is it ok to burn (garbages) anything i wish? if I am a nymphomaniac is it ok to rape any woman I see? obviously not the Torah tells us we must control our urges!!!!!!!
