Why are left-wing activists allowed to demonstrate in military checkpoints in the first place? It is not like they are providing oversight or accountability. It sounds like they are just creating a dangerous nuisance for soldiers. This soldier's sentence is an obvious travesty of justice. He should be reprimanded severely, but not be charged as a convicted felon. Israeli justice is really wacko!

Charge them with interfering with a government official in the performance of his duty. That's how a nation of laws would treat such brigands.

These so-called activists thrive by working the system. They know they can incite, insult and threaten the soldiers with little fear of harm. They know that if arrested they'll be out in a few hours, and nothing prevents them from attending the next week's protest. That this is NOT done puts the soldiers in a difficult situation. They are not trained for civil disobedience, and to just "grin and bear it" while trying to do their job puts a lot of stress on these young soldiers. If the solder acted as accused (as if activists have never bent the facts), he crossed the line. A full blown court martial seems a bit much though. What we would call a disciplinary hearing, some retraining or counseling and a reassignment seems more appropriate. I've argued before that locals should be detained long enough that they aren't available for the next week's protest. I've also argued that foreigners involved should be summarily deported as persona non grata. I'm fairly confident this would put a serious crimp in the weekly confrontations.

Liberal protesters in America stand outside a facilty in S. California that produces "Striker" vehicles that the US military uses in Iraq. Their goal is to prevent these vehicles from leaving the production plant to bring the war in Iraq to an end. They refuse to move, and force police to forcibly remove them, sometimes using devices that lock many of their arms together so it is very difficult to remove them from the entrance to this facility. While acting in non-violent "disobedience" they act under the presumption that moving them takes a degree of physical contact from the authorities to remove them from the seen. But the degree of phyical contact can be and is AMBIGUOUS. Then after they have, in a premeditated manner, intentionaly provoked the authorities, and required those authorities to use force to remove them, they claim Police Brutality. This Mr. Bauer is the price to pay when you live in a democracy that inables us to have freedom of speech. I don't like it myself, but it's better than living under Sharia correct. PS.... The failures of last summer amply demonstrated the dereliction of the command echelon of the IDF. That dereliction was itself the reflection of the same idiocy that is displayed in the persecution of the soldier.
