1. THE PRICE OF FREE SPEECH.................
Danielle ,   centre   (06.27.07)
2. Funding
Shalom   (06.27.07)
Not condoning the damage in any way but what about the cost of 7000 police to protect the Gays?
3. OMG...someone actually cares about the people
Elokim ,   Israel   (06.27.07)
I think we need to elect Saar Netanel to be an MK or even PM, with such profound statements that have been made on this issue alone!!! Anarchists such as these idiots need to be fined and held accountable for these violent actions!! They need to enforce this type of law with all who do damages...oh wait it would ONLY be haredi who would qualify!! :D Good job Saad Netane!! Keep up the good work and one day you will run the country!!!
4. Charge the Open House
Hershel Tsvi Yehuda ,   Bet Shemesh   (06.27.07)
Charge the organizers of the parade itself for all the damages caused by the protest! The Open House wanted to cause a provocation and they did... not let them ay for it. The residents of Jerusalem have already paid enough by having their sensibilitites and everything holy to them trampled on by the homosexual community which obviuosly has no respect or toleration for any other citizens of this country.
5. No! It was the Sodomists' Parade That Caused the Expense
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (06.27.07)
6. Meretz in favor of collective punishment?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (06.27.07)
So a minority of a community commit a wrong but the entire sector must pay the price? Just shows that Meretz talks the talk about rule of law, but is willing to throw it all away when the group affected isn't Arab or friends of the left.
7. You should rather ask...
Jay ,   Canada   (06.27.07)
1. Why should Haredi tax payers bear the brunt of bringing in seven thousand police to protect the parade, after survey's have shown that 75% of Isrealis oppose the parade taking place in Jerusalem 2. Why should their tax money go to cover part of the budget of the gay 'Open House', which gets 5% of its budget from the City Council.
8. #4 - No responsibility????
Mark ,   Denver, CO, USA   (06.27.07)
So, in your world, no one takes responsibility for his/her actions? A world where no one is accountable for their actions? Wow, a world where anyone can do anything, if they just say "[Insert any group] were provoking me!!!!!" No thanks, I'd rather live in a world where people took responsibility for their actions, and were held accountable for those actions.
9. "Amen" to Netanel
(06.27.07)
The heredim claim to love Tzion, to honor Yerushalayim, and to resist evil impulses? This is how they demonstrate that? This is how they show love and good-will and tzedakah and the principles of Hillel? I think there should be treble damages. That, or let them hang out with their Iranian religious extremist counterparts -- they already went to hang out with them at the Holocaust denial conference! Shame on them.
10. #2 & #4 whowhat?!!
Elokim ,   Israel   (06.27.07)
Shalom...no I mean shalom... If the haredi did what the meaning of your name is...then the 7000 police officers would not have been necessary!!! Hershel walker...I'm sure the organizers of the parade have paid the city for it's services...if they parade did any damage it should pay for it...if the jackasses, oh I mena heredi, did (we know they did, so there's no if) damage they should be held accountable!! Ahhh you so contradict yourself...community and citizens....what is the difference? Oh I know this one...one is able to tolerate the other WITHOUT VIOLENCE! Can you guess who I'm talking about???? The rabbis need to keep their violent and hateful people from spewing their inciteful small minded views on rest of the community and citizens!! :D
11. let the "gays" pay
RHT ,   Jerusalem   (06.27.07)
What many in this country fail to realize is that the majority of the Charadim in Meah Shearim are from families that were in this land way before the State of Israel or even modern Zionism. The sensabilites of these people, who were here way before most of us, was violated by this abomination in the Holy City. If anyone should pay it should be the "open house" org. While the city council is sending out bills let the Open House folks pay for the 7000 police and their overtime for the "parade".
12. #2 - Fund the Haredim for the Police, too
John ,   Maaleh Adumim,Israel   (06.27.07)
The haredi community should not only be charged for the damage but they should also be charged most of the 13 million NIS that it took to secure the event - if it weren't for them, the heavy security wouldn't have been needed at all!
13. Taxpayers
anonymous ,   brooklyn ny   (06.27.07)
Why isnt the price of police protection and all that went into this parade being discussed!? 7000 cops for 2000 marchers is insane. Nobody cares how much was spent on that?
14. #13 - price of democracy
Mark ,   Denver, CO, USA   (06.27.07)
FROM #13's talkback: Why isnt the price of police protection and all that went into this parade being discussed!? -------------------------- Side note: All of the money and the 7000 cops were apparently not enough if NIS428,000 worth of damage was done. And that is the exact question everyone should be asking: Why was it necessary to spend all that money and resources to protect a parade? Human being's freedoms should be closely guarded. Mankind's freedoms cannot be limited to just the popular sentiment at the time. The freedom to disagree with what is popular needs to be protected otherwise, what are the use of our freedoms? Therefore, the money spent protecting the gay pride parade was a necessary part of democracy.
15. question is do any haredim pay any taxes at all?
(06.27.07)
or are they just a bunch of irresponsible homophobic freeloaders?
16. On the money and resources spent protecting the parade
Mark ,   Denver, CO, USA   (06.27.07)
Many of the talkbacks miss the point about the money and resources spent on protecting the parade. If people did not violently (key word) protest a lawful demonstration of other people's rights (as in the gay parade), then none of the money or resources would have been needed. The fact that there was violent protests against the parade proves that the government was correct in spending the money and allocating resources to protect the parade (in fact, they probably didn't spend enough). The fact that someone has a different view on life than you do, does not give you the right to cause harm (either bodily or materially). That just makes you a criminal.
17. and how much did it cost to make the parade
sam ,   Jerusalem   (06.27.07)
I dont think the damage was correct but it cost the city 13 million shekel (the police) jpost "Some 8,000 police safeguarded the march, at a cost of NIS 13 million, an Israel Police spokesman said." so another 1/2 a million big deal!!!!!!!
18. RHT Yeroushalaim , they are disgusting
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.27.07)
Maybe you are right for some of those families , But what did they contribute to the state ? Nothing , effes , niks , rien . And what do they contribute today , yes they do , The city has to be cleaned up , repairs have to be made , great contribution indeed . A part of them even oppose the Israeli state , and then they have the chutspa , at least , to protest agains a parade organised by GOOD Israelis . Shame on them .

Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (06.27.07)
This isn't the U.S. and we don't want to be like the U.S. I moved away from the U.S., halfway around the world, so that I could live as a Jew. You stay in the U.S. where things are like you like and stop telling us how to run our own affairs according to your goyim U.S. values. 20. #4 - Let me get this right....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (06.27.07)
Heredi protesters act like animals in the streets of the city they supposedly love so much, smashing and burning. Gay folks march peacefully and modestly in no religious area and at no holy site. Your conclusion: Gay folks have no respect for other citizens of this country. Don't you even hear youself?
21. paqid , a goy tells a US man how to behave
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.27.07)
Goyim as you have also to stop telling true Jewish Israelis how to behave .
22. #7 - "Haredi tax payers"???
Gilan ,   J'lem, Izzie   (06.27.07)
That's the funniest thing I've heard all week. Thanks Jay. Anyone who doesn't pay taxes should get no services. No garbage collection, no utilities, no public transportation, certainly no free money for having more deadbeat children who add nothing to the economy and won't do public service.
23. Hidden Societal Costs: Homosexual Pedophilia & Pederasty
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (06.27.07)
Overt expenses aren't the only costs. Should out taxes pay for parades by pedophiles and pederasts who are represented far more highly among homosexuals? See http://traditionalvalues.org/urban/one-a.php PS: the most popular Israeli Jewish newspaper not publishing candlelighting times on Yom Shishi in its on-line counterpart is a disservice to Jewish readers and a disgrace to Israel. Even ha-Aretz publishes candlelighting times on Yom Shishi. Paqid Yirmeyahu Israeli Orthodox Jew Advancing Logic as Halakhic Authority Welcoming Jews & non-Jews www.netzarim.co.il
24. We all pay paid 13,000,000 in parade abomination
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (06.27.07)
and someone is complaining about the 100,000 "wasted" to stop the 13,000,000 waste in the first place. Open house ? Merets? any comments to this ? No money for Sderot fortication ? Ask it from Noa satat, she and cronnies wasted that money and probably received some more milllions underneath the table from international organizations to push the parade down Jerusalem residents' throats without our agreement And to hareidim: go burn Tel Aviv's trash bins, - they should suffer the damage, not you
25. Ilan , Ariel
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.27.07)
What has Meretz , or any other party to do with this parade ? As far as is known the open house is apolitical . Meretz support their struggle for FREEDOM ? so what ? Other people , not Meretz affiliated , also support them . Many anti gays also . They only defend the right of GOOD Israelis to parade in their Capital , in a Capital some of the Gay community , and not the edah haredit bipedes , have given their blood for . If it was not for the hatred the haridim have shown , police would not have been necessary to protect them . And tell me why Rechov Bar Ilan had to be closed to traffic ? You do'nt know , or do'nt want to know . I'll tell you : the police feared that those "peacefull" charidim would throw stones at passing cars .
26. 21 Orthodox rabbis recognize me as Jew; Your opinion=0
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (06.27.07)
27. lame journalism- how much did GAY PARADE cost???
(06.27.07)
28. GayPride Parade cost Israel 13 million NIS
bill handel ,   brooklyn, usa   (06.27.07)
8,000 Police and Border Guards, supported by helicopters and ambulances cost 26 times more than Hareidi protests. Let's make a deal--Let Saar Netanel pay the 13 million to the Hareidim, then they will refund the 400 thousand--How about it?
29. Paqid , your info sources are
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.27.07)
so thrustworthy as you are , they at least let people see what they are , they are not hidding their fake ideas with fake names and fake religious beliefs .
30. If people riot in their own neighborhood...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (06.27.07)
... and damage their own property, why do other people have to pay for the repairs?
