The offences that he has admitted to in the plea bargain are ones that any ordinary citizen would go to jail for. He must serve time as dictated by law. He is NOT above the law. This plea bargain has proved that the State Attorney and the Judicial System are a "carbuncle on the butt of jurisprudence"! When is Chief Justice Benish going to see how these pleas are damaging the credibility of the courts and are undermining what little remains of public confidence in the Israeli Judiciary? What kind of a message does this send to the youth of this country particularly when you see the praise for Katzav by the "good" citizens of Kiryat Malachi? I suppose he his still going to get his full Presidential and MK's pension. It might be an idea for the media to tell the public how much money Moshe Katzav will receive for his services to the State of Israel at the expense of the taxpayer. Crime seems to pay if you have the right "protekzia".

Even if it may seem evident that President Katsav could have won easily if this case had gone to court, it was a wise decision to sign that agreement. This disgusting, outrageous, based-on-nothing media persecution that can cause enormous harm and pain had to be stopped in some way. Therefore it is not cowardice and it is not shameful surrendering if the President says: enough, whatever is the price. And President Katsav should not forget that losing the respect of those who form their opinion on the basis of crazy, lunatic, dirt-throwing media reports is not a big tragedy. Well, it is not a loss at all ! And honestly, what is more important? To re-establish the long-awaited calm and normality to family life or to wage an impossible war against the screaming and grimacing media figures, trying to prove the truth to those who are unwilling to listen to it? After a year of hysterical media lynch the minimum President Katsav deserves is calm, normality and being left alone.
