What in the name of God do you mean? What contest? What is the prize? Reading a book is robbery as you see it. It seems that the Nazi's did not want people to read what was not their type of German.
33. What's Next?
moifne ,   Bklyn NY USA   (07.09.07)
What's next is a return to "we killed their g-d", with all the consequences thereof.. As the little Jewish kid said when confronted by a mob of "them" yelling the deicide charge: "So kill mine"! That ssays it all!. The bloodiest and most vicious ideology ever to walk the earth. Xtians make Tyrannosauras Rex look like a bunny rabbit. They even have a ceremony where they eat their idol's flesh and drink his blood. Cannibals and vampires is what they are.
34. And there is something about this mess missing
Keren ,   SP-Israel   (07.09.07)
in this translantion,or is added in the article I read in another news paper. There,in the other article, is said that the mess also say we Jews are perverse(or some similar word). The mass as a whole is a slander on us,as always have been the posture of the church towards us.
35. Sadness
Lior ,   London   (07.09.07)
This is indeed a blow to Catholic-Jewish relations and is needless as is the harm it will do. It was Pope John XXIII - Angelo Roncalli - who not only instigated the Second Vatican Council but prior to it, abolished the Good Friday prayers for the conversion of the Jews in the Tridentine Rite of the Mass. It was at his insistence that the Misa Normantiva - the Standard Mass of today's church - continue the omission of this traditional prayer. Both John-Paull II and the present Pope Benedict were instrumental in the preparation - at John XIII's insistence - of the Vatican II document Nostra Aetate - In our Age - which, although watered down from its original, recognized the Jewish roots of Christianity and abolished the concept of "replacement theology". There is no doubt that Benedict is friendly and well-disposed to Jews and Judaism. There is also no need for these prayers to be included in the traditional Latin Tradentine Mass. They can be omitted as they were at John XXIII's instigation in the late 1950s. I find the whole thing very strange and very sad.

abdulla ,   germany   (07.09.07)
It applies to those specific apostate jews who seek to "remove love of torah and the fear of G-d from" bnei yisro'el and their non-jewish "supporters". It doesn't even apply to apostates just those who are working towards sperating jews from torah. In that context the "blessing" is appropriate.

There are no plans to revive this particular prayer in the works. 41. One big cesspool of BS
Josh   (07.09.07)
I read over a lot of lies in my life but that shouldn't keep people from finding the truth. Truth is there is only one book of Torah and every major religion is not on the path intended by G-d. As people like Paqiq "what is his face?" regurgitate text after text from a disreputable sources and the villianas service is restored, one only need look with their eyes to see we are viewing the curses at work. If you are passing the test of devareem 13 and seeking G-d with all your heart, you will see much as the Shomroneem see. One book in the simple reading with no additions in text or by way of "peh" spoken. The world is filled with every devise for missleading as G-d is testing to see who of the children uphold common sense and truth but mostly love. The paths show by the commentators show confusion and deception. The prophet to come will not put out one fire of the curses because they are just in falling on the heads of the disgenuine and foolish. I wish I could see "choose life" but I don't.

Too many Jews of a certain persuation seem to find a perverse joy in imagining that all of humanity is out to destroy them.Certainly the past was replete with persecution by the Church,But after the love and decency exhibited by Pope John xxll and esoecially by Pope John Paul ll it pains me that such anti Catholuc prejudice persists,Thank you so much for your clarification. My only fear is that too many here will wilfully ignore it,

45. The removal of the scepter of Judah
Follower of Jesus   (07.10.07)
According to the prophecy of Genesis 49:10, the Messiah had to have come prior to the removal of the scepter from Judah. Therefore, either the Messiah has already been and gone or God lied. God cannot lie; so whoever the Messiah was, according to the Talmud He had to have already come at that point. Again, the Talmud mentions how 40 years before the destruction of the Temple the Sanhedrin was moved from the Hall of the hewn stones to a place outside; you may read this in 41a and in the Avodat Zerah 8b. Whoever The Messiah is, He had to come and die prior to 70AD/CE. (Jesus In The Talmud by Jacob Prasch)

Early Christianity was just a sect of Judaism and it was in the 325 C.E. that they surgically removed the last vestiges of Judaism. Prior to that Jesus and his folks were essentially a sect of Judaism.

"Too many Jews of a certain persuasion seem to find a perverse joy in imagining that all of humanity is out to destroy them." #42 Your quote: Don't know what you mean by certain "persuasion" but, it doesn't sound so tolerant for your benefit I, won't speculate though. Cultures that don't remember and preserve their history in either written or oral form are in great peril. Human history is replete with examples of cultural extinctions by this cause. I agree however, people shouldn't dwell on the pain of the past. #42 I recommend you pick up the academic works of the scholar Hyam Maccoby he clarifies many dangerous misunderstandings and one in particular you seemed to have latched on to is the one about Mikvah immersion equaling repentance. A "sinner" is a "sinner" still even if he performs Mikvah. I believe the person Yeshu, Isoos or Jesus would've understood this. #45 - you also could benefit because their is a more accurate meaning to Moshiach/Messiah and Malchut Shamayim/"Kingdom of Heaven" these terms have been consistently misunderstood and have been at the root of much animus between Jew and Non-Jew . These concepts are more accurately understood as earthly concepts where a pious, pragmatic and egalitarian leader serves as spokesperson or conduit between the Shechina or Divine Presence and the people serving both equally. The "Kingdom of Heaven' on Earth can also return based on many criteria. Many Messichus have existed and the "Kingdom of Heaven" is not necessarily final. These concepts of finality, absolutism and a supremely infallible supernatural dominion in a physical "man-like" earthly form aren't really Jewish. It is possible and indeed probable that Jesus like many others wanted to free Eretz-Yisrael from the yoke of Caesar's rule and Roman military occupation. It is also sadly possible that he as well as others failed in that endeavor. It seems the biggest mis-perception is the reverence the Chazal had for academics, debate, discussion, deliberation and Democracy and it would also appear their efforts to convey this sentiment to all the people also sadly failed. It isn't wrong to disagree with a certain thought or ideology but, I suggest studying it openly and with others first before deciding. #19 Paqid you are awesome and I have always learned something new from every one of your post. I can't even definitively agree or disagree with you on anything because your knowledge is so far beyond mine but, again Toda Raba for the information you pass is fantastic, rare and invaluable and I will continue to try and learn from you. There are many Jewish sources to confirm this. I have read even in writings by Kabbalists that there was a letter about him. HaRav Dahan is one good source, it's on the net. I find many kabbalists who know who he was very well, and there is no problem at all with him or his Torah teachings. It was the 'notzrim' that the problem exists with.
49. misconceptions about Jesus cont.
m   (07.10.07)
Jesus Christ came as an exact representative of Jehovah God. Of him it is written 'he was an exact representation of the only true God' Of him the Jews were told the 'messenger of the covenant would suddenly appear in the temple' So he had to come whilst the temple was standing. It also says in Daniel that messiah shall be cut off, with nothing for himself and an army would come in a bring the Holy place and the city to ruin.' Which happened under Titus. Also Because Jesus came as Jehovahs representative, it was recorded in Zechariah ""throw it to the treasurey-the majestic value with which I have been valued from their standpoint .' Accordingly I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw it into the treasurey at the house of Jehovah.' So this was the value that the Jews according to their own prohet placed on him. As God told Samuel 'its not you they have rejected but me.'' Then it was recorded that the brotherhood between Judah and Israel was broken. Today that same brokeness exists between the Israel of God [ those in a covenant relationship with him] and Judah, which has always symbolized Israel in a fleshly sense.
50. #45 What?!
Josh   (07.10.07)
The sceptor has not passed as no other tribe lays claim to rule over the nation of Israel. Even Christians are a Jewish sect. Until the messiah comes is not written in the text of Genisis. It does call from the nations to be obedient to G-d. Which could be attached to Messianic times but the sceptor passing from Judah has yet to occur as well as the nations being obidient to G-d and his Torah (rules). Even the Messiah concept calls for a Jewish leader. You belong to religion who claims Jesus is the Messiah, but he also was Jewish. He told you to return to Torah, yet you haven't thus you are not obidient. So according to you the Messiah is not Jewish (as the sceptor must leave Judah) and therefore Jesus could not be the messiah. Your a bright one - that is for sure.

Josh   (07.10.07)
"exact representative of Jehovah God" If you knew even the slightest in-context qote of Torah (old testament) you would know that it is forbidden to represnt G-d as anything that walks the earth, male or female, anything in the sea or anything in the sky. Thus where you see this quote you made written, is just a matter of a pagan writing it down.

'tshuva' is similar to Tawbah in Arabic.. :) It make you wonder how so common things are between all of us here. It also shows that all Prophets came from one God... Indeed, as God said in the Quran, and that he and his prophets will be victorious....
53. No place for rudeness and bigotry
Rev J.U.Bengtsson ,   Sweden   (07.10.07)
There should be no place for bigotry and rudeness, not to mention hate speech, in the relations between Jews and Christians. That goes for talkbacks as well as the common prayer in our congregations. Pope Benedict has shown his good intentions for the Jewish people on many occasions. The opportunity for some Catholics to a stricktly limited use of the old Latin Mass is mainly a question about relations between Catholics and has little to do with the world outside that church. Please do not make a mountain out of a mole pile. Jesus in my opinion had no intention of founding a separate religion. He wished a teshuvah to G-d for his people as a preparation for the coming of the Kingdom of G-d. That was his main intention. He was as far it is possible to know a religious observant Jew. His main message was the love for G-d and your neighbor. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself." Today we have two separate religions, Judaism and Christianity. Between us we differ on many religious questions, but mainly on the person of Jesus and his mission. It is not necessary that we Christians make those disagreements part of our common prayer. In fact it would be good, considering recent history to abstain from singling out Jews as a people in our common prayer. But I will maintain that as long as there is no hate speech Jews and Christians have the right to pray in their own ways without outside interference. In years gone we have seen to much of such interference.
54. #40 Judaic calendar doesn't change what I wrote & off-topic
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.10.07)
Yahn, your post has nothing to do with the decision of the Christian counterfeit paqid (the pope) and nothing to do with what I wrote. Nor does it alter the fact that if you wish to discuss the intractable contradictions that render Christianity and Judaism mutually exclusive you'll have to deal with the documentation and historical facts, not ignore them and pretend the intractable contradictions don't exist so that you can persist in your blinkered argumentation. Until you read James Parkes (The Conflict of the Church and the Synagogue) you're treading water in a river of ignorance while its current sweeps you downstream. I'm trying to help you but you're not helping yourself. Educate yourself. Read the book. Then you can discuss it with far more insight. My computer is going in the shop for a day or two. Particularly since this is off-topic from the article, it might be better to respond, if you like, in the Convention Center blog of our website where your post will still be there when I get my computer back. (I don't usually bother with Ynet articles once they leave the "front page" headlines.) PS: the most popular Israeli Jewish newspaper not publishing candlelighting times on Yom Shishi in its on-line counterpart is a disservice to Jewish readers and a disgrace to Israel. 56. # 47 Biased arguing !
Follower of Jesus   (07.10.07)
Certainly you know why, otherwise - not probable - read this, humbled and poor in spirit, as excellently written by Jacob Prasch in "Jesus In The Talmud" : ""Liztlov oto" ("crucify") Jewish people will also accuse Christians of inventing a New Covenant that does not exist, claiming that the only covenant is the Torah. Jeremiah 31:31 says that God will make a new covenant, but when you tell them this they will try to tell you that you have misunderstood the text. At this point, you can point to the Midrash on Psalm 7, p. 5a of the Warsaw Edition: "God will speak through the Messiah to make a new covenant." Psalm 2 says, "Thou art My Son; do homage to the Son, lest He become angry and you perish in the way." The Rabbis say that God has no Son; but they have a big problem. Here is where I tell you how to drive an Orthodox Rabbi into early retirement in Florida: Psalm 2 is put together with Psalm 110 and II Samuel 16:1, and then connected with the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53. These things can be read in the Midrash on II Samuel 16:1, paragraph 19 of the Lemburg Edition, p. 45; also the Midrash on Psalm 7, p. 5a of the Warsaw Edition; and Yalkut (SP?) Volume II p. 90a. (These things can be obtained at a Yeshiva or a religious Jewish library.) It goes on to say, then, when it has connected Psalm 110 with II Samuel 16:1 and Isaiah 53, "Against God and His Messiah: "If I find the Son of the King, I shall lay hold of Him and crucify Him with a cruel death." The Talmud actually says that the Messiah would be crucified 'Litzlov oto' is exactly what it says, 'crucify'. This is one thing they cannot answer; it shocks them. You admire Paqid, you and him may get some benefit from unbiased arguing with Gentiles. Otherwise it would be only "pilpul".
57. To: Rev J.U.Bengtsson
Josh   (07.10.07)
His reason for coming according to his own words in whcih he corrected people who thought to the contrary. "I have not come to bring peace..." His coming was to bring war! To burn up the chaffe. Collecting the fallen jews. He said he wished the axe was already put to the root of Israel. Why do you represent a punisher as if he were the messiah? Do you think you are misleading followers to believe messages contrary to Jesus' own words. "They will k*ll you oneday for my namesake." Who will? Who was he speaking to? His followers will and he was talling to the Jews in temple.

#56, I do admire Paqid's scholarship and willingness to share his knowledge and his convictions; as I do the works of many others. Many will make you pay for their knowledge though. You seem to also have strong convictions on this and I will delve into the sources you quote although they appear a little disparate. I still think you lack a solid starting premise based on the understanding or misunderstanding of the meaning of Messiah/Moshiach. All I can say on the is Starting is better the finishing and patience is better then pride: Qoheleth . Hey, what can I say time still passes and the will of Hashem is still "just that" the will of Hashem the creator and (and all is as Elohim wills it) of course revelation still unfolds whether we can perceive it or not. I would be doing the Chazal who I respect and admire so much a disservice by not reflecting, studying or considering the material you presented or the sources you quoted however. Of course just like in the past so many matters that are beyond singular human understanding require a group consensus and driving anyone into retirement is not a desire I possess accept for maybe a criminal though and in all cases knowledge and understanding is again the only way to do that. Shalom

You quote Psalm 2; If the Son is equal with G-d, why does G-d need to tell himself who He was? Was Ezekiel G-d too (since he was a Son of man)? "bar" means purity. G-d does not have the Christian understanding of begetting a son (thats a Greco Roman godman interpretation).
