1. the better we treat them the more will come
Dan ,   Tel Aviv   (07.08.07)
have no doubt... the better we treat them the more will come - and they are not refugees, they are economic migrants, illegal infiltrators who have been living in Egypt for years.
2. economic migrants - not refugees
David Alon ,   Jerusalem   (07.08.07)
the left is totaly winning this one. They are economic migrants who are looking for a better life here. Hey, why not just open the borders to enyone who wants to come.
3. This is a situation dumped on Israel
BigE ,   Israel   (07.08.07)
On the on hand hand we can feel sorry for the plight of many of these refugees. On the other hand, just because our people have suffered rejection as refugess doesn't make us responsible to keep them. It's patently obvious that they're intentionally being sent to Israel. We do (and should) have a soft-spot for those in need. But this is a ludicrous - and dangerous - situation that is spinning way past our control. We have a first duty to protect and serve less fortunate Israelis.
4. SUDANISE REFUGEES SEND BACK, ISRAELI JEWS NEED HELP FIRST

Carl ,   Indianapolis, USA   (07.08.07)
They are the latest weapon against Israel. WAKE UP ISRAEL!!!!!!
9. Is the PC word for "illegal entry" now "refugee"?
ilana   (07.08.07)
Stop with the right wing liberal idealism and get R E A L. Israel cannot take care of her own right now and to allow anyone to just shlep across the border and whine we are "cruel" needs to get a dose of reality and get out. Disgraceful they were dropped of in J'lem. They should have been taken across the border! But then Israel is acting more like the Bush government. OY!
10. illegal
rj ,   england   (07.08.07)
since when is it ok for illegal immigrants to be allowed to protest in ANY country let alone Israel ???? if they realy want to be in this region then Israel should drive them to either gaza or to ramallah where their moslem brithers and sisters can give them all the aid they need...how dare any outsider use the holocaust for reason Jews and Israel to feel obligde to help...the maoslem and christians over many centeries have killed more people in their religious names so perhaps they should feel even more obligated to help these illegal immigrants...
11. shouldn't be responsibility of the army
Tobias   (07.08.07)
PMO: "responsibility lies with Defense Ministry" - strange country. The task of the Def. Min. and the army should be to protect Israel from terrorists and other armed enemies. OK, also to pick up unarmed people (refugees) who cross the border. But certainly not to provide them permanently with a place to llive, food, and everything else. I would call this "social welfare" or something similarly. Anyway, taking care of refugees shouldn't be the task of Zahal, there should be some civil authority which deals with it. Perhaps the gov. now first has to create such a department. Seems that in Israel, unlike most european countries, refugees (I mean, non-jewish refugees, the jewish ones were taken care of by immigrant absorbtion centers etc.) never have been a topic until now. Except seven years ago with the SLA, and as far as I've heard, they also were neglected by the State of Israel.
12. #8: like the german jews 70 years ago
Tobias ,   Germany   (07.08.07)
You say that the refugees were a weapon against Israel? This is like saying that the Jews which tried to escape the 3. Reich seventy years ago were a weapon of the Nazi government against France, Britain, USA etc. Do you have any friends whose families came at that time from Europe? Please learn from history. Please stop blaming these people for the policy of their enemies. Please don't suggest to punish these poor guys for the actions of a government (or of terrorist groups) which wants to murder them. THEY are not Israels enemy. They are also victims of radical islamists.
13. #10 rj in UK - Since when can they do that?
Carl ,   Indianapolis, USA   (07.09.07)
Since when is it Ok for illegal immigrants to be allowed to protest in any country, let along Israel, you ask? Let me remind you that Olmert's master, George Bush, allows illegal Mexicans to march in protest flying the Mexican flag, with placards in Spanish, singing the Mexican anthem. All that in US cities. They are provided with expensive health care (they come across the border to have their babies), education, and many other privileges. What's happening in Europe and to some extent in the US, is happening in Israel. It worked in Europe! The UK is practically a colony of Islam. Those who were begging for entry are these days calling the shots. These humble (?) economic migrants will, if allowed to stay, sue for discrimination, demand special privileges, and their children will simply hate Israel's society that has absolutely nothing in common with them. You'll see gangs, terror, and above all INGRATITUDE. WAKE UP AND STOP ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, NOW.
14. #12 Tobias - No, they are NOT like the Jews of Germany
Carl ,   Indianapolis, USA   (07.09.07)
The Jews of Germany were under threat of total annihilation and with nowhere to go. The Africans of all nationalities that show up at Israel's borders are NOT under threat. The Darfurians have already found assylum in Egypt. The other Africans - and they come from just about every African country these days - are NOT in danger. They are ECONOMIC MIGRANTS, Tobias. If you had read previous reports on the Israeli press, you would know that these people are not fleeing for their lives. They are coming to Israel for the same reason they came to your Europe. Now that they made it their home, they are pushing your culture to the side and taking over the entire continent. And since Israel is being attacked not only by its Arab enemies but from the Left inside the country, there's a conspiracy to bring in more and more of these people to overwhelm the country. They use the same argument you use and believe in, that they are like the Jews of Germany. This is a very convenient emotional manipulation of the Jews of Israel, but the FACTS are demonstrating that this is not true. Let me quote you from a Haaretz editorial of July 3: "The border with Egypt has been wide open for smugglers of weapons, drugs, women and foreign workers. There was even a sort of unwritten agreement with the Bedouin: they prevented terrorists from infiltrating to Israel, and in exchange Israel let them make a living from smuggling. Now Israel must suffer the consequences of its actions." What does that say to you? Something is rotten at the core. The government has been aware of this smuggling for years. Only now, when the trickle is becoming a flood, and these people are left wandering the streets, only now thay can't hide the problem any longer. Israel must deal with this issue. The United Nations is tasked with assisting and housing refugees. This is not a problem for tiny Israel.
15. I'm a nice person
tma   (07.09.07)
an I've a big heart. BUT I must state that these "refugees" should not make Israel their new home. Israel is still a Jewish state, unlike what Avraham Burg would like, and we have no need for such a high number of potential enemies - they will become our enemies when - not if, just - when, they will side with the Arab settlers in Israel (those who call themselves Palestinians). Let's send them back to where they came from and they can go to the rich Arab lands where they truly belong. We have enough Russian goyim in Israel must we absorb EVERYONE????
16. What is wrong with you people?
Alexander ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.09.07)
There is no logical reason whatsoever to NOT accept these refugees. On the contrary, there's a moral obligation for us to accept them. And no, the Darfur refugees are NOT in any meaningful way a threat to Israel's Jewish character. Unlike the Palestinian "refugees", these people come to Israel fleeing persecution and seeking merely a normal life. If we accept them and treat them well, they will be loyal citizens, and their second and third generation will be converting to Judaism out of the desire to be like everybody else in this country. Just like the children of ethnic Russians who arrived to Israel in the 1970-s are now indistinguishable from the Israeli-born Ashkenazi Jews, so will the children of the Sudanese become indistinguishable from the Black Jews, of whom there are many in Israel already.
17. I don't see why we have to take care of
(07.09.07)
the sudanese refugees when we can't even take care of our own first. The price of bread going up..... poverty increasing.... the state already has no money to spare, we got our own problems to deal with. Life sucks, buck up already.
18. Alexander #16
Keren ,   SP-Israel   (07.09.07)
"Just like the children of ethnic Russians who arrived to Israel in the 1970-s are now indistinguishable from the Israeli-born Ashkenazi " I don't think so...I have seen more crosses in their chest than anything else.Crosses that they seem to rub in our noses. I have seen also a blond russian woman with a muslim veil!
19. #16 - I've read your arguments before, almost word by word
Carl ,   Indianapolis, USA   (07.09.07)
There's a movement to promote the acceptance of these non-Jews using those same arguments, all of them invalid. 1) They are not victims. They are economic refugees. 2) They already obtained assylum in Egypt. They are coming to Israel because they are being told that the Jews are suckers and that they will be taken in and taken care of. 3) The fact that they have had hard lives DOES NOT TURN THEM INTO GOOD PEOPLE. 4) Your statement that they will become Jews is hilarious. Muslims do not convert to Judaism (it's forbidden). Christians do not convert to Judaism. And furthermore, except for the Orthodox, secularism is spreading among Jews. 5) Russians are not becoming Jews. Like Keren says here, they are sticking to their old Christian culture. And some of them even hold views that are rather anti-Semitic. A small minority, of course. But my point is that living in Israel does not turn a person into a Jew. 6) If you treat them well they won't become automatically good citizens. These people have a powerful culture. Do some more reading on African-style conflict solving. They are already demonstrating AGAINST the government. Doesn't that tell you something of what you're getting into? That's taking place when they have been in Israel for only a few hours or days. I don't know who you represent but this is becoming clearer by the day. It's been all well planned out. Israel is being destroyed on many fronts and this is just another one. Save your compassion for your own fellow Jews. Start a campaign so that everyone has gas masks. Or to help the refugees from the expulsions, still in substandard housing. Or to help the Sderot people.
20. You people make me sad
colleen ,   seattle, us   (07.10.07)
Many Jews were turned away during WWII, and the people of Sudan are victims of genocide, does this not make sense to you. Do none of you have a map, the border countries have been ravaged by their own wars; if this doesn't stop soon it will spread more from Central Africa, to Chad, to war torn Congo. Alas, no one cares about Africa Rwanda was a testament to that.

tma   (07.11.07)
Say what? I don't know about muslims, but "Christians do not convert to Judaism"? Then who then who did you think converts to Judaism? Of course Christians convert to Judaism. Most converts were originally Christians. Get your facts straight before you post nonsense.
22. #21 I take it you agree with the rest of my TB
