1. There is an appointed time for everything.
Steve ,   US   (07.14.07)
Were Pope Benedict the true Vicar of the savior on the earth, he would be praying for the peace of Jerusalem. He would be encouraging Israel to stand firm against the world-forces that would divide her land; firm against the jihadist onslaught that would annihilate the Jews. If he were the true Vicar, he would know that this is not the time for peace; it is a time for war. Peace will come but not from Rome. The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem..... "There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven-- A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance. A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing. ... A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace.
2. In Peres own words...
Nannette ,   London   (07.14.07)
The Israeli writer Yoram Hazony wrote recently a book titled “L’Etat juif” in its French translation. (I am sure an English translation must be available). In it, he talks about the historic evolution of Zionism. When it comes to Shimon Peres, he quotes him as saying: - “Any idea of a small Nation-State - the Jewish State included - has collapsed”. - “There is no doubt that the next objective that Israel should pursue is to become a member of the Arab League”. Second, consider this excerpt from Mr. Peres’s interview with Ha’aretz following his defeat by Benjamin Netanyahu in the May 1996 prime ministerial election: Interviewer: What happened in this election? Peres: We lost. Interviewer: Who is we? Peres: We, that is the Israelis. Interviewer: And who won? Peres: All those who do not have an Israeli mentality. Interviewer: And who are they? Peres: The Jews. Based on his own words, it is not outlandish to call Shimon Peres a non-Jew. Indeed, when Peres was Israel’s foreign minister in the 1991-1995 Rabin government, he applied for Israel’s membership in the Arab League!
3. Pope should tell Katsav to say many "Hail Marys"
Alan ,   SA   (07.14.07)
4. Be sure, Pope, Peres will push
Caroline ,   Israel   (07.14.07)
same way he's been pushing for years without any good outcome for the Jewish people. But his name will be again all over the world and this is what counts (for him). For all others he was, he is and will remain the greatest egocentric Israeli loser of all times.
5. As Bad As NY Times Praising Livni.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.14.07)
When our politicians get praise from sources like the NY Times, The Pope, the EU leaders, or Condi Rice, you can be sure they are doing something NOT in our best interest.
6. Dear Pope
Aharon   (07.14.07)
Mind your own business. Regards, A Jew.
7. Let us have new elections
jason white ,   afula,israel   (07.14.07)
and peres will go straight from the President's House to prison. This pope like most of the ones before him is only out to destroy the Israel and the Jewish people!

and Yitzhak Rabin legitimated the terror arm of Jihad, they brought PLO to Israel, gave them protection, weapon and money, which were used for one purpose: To kill Jews and to destroy their state, as the PLO-Charter still demands... Gush Katif Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm11qDwSVlk
11. Pope
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.14.07)
It could be worse: He could see hope in Abbas
12. # 6 I agree
Chana ,   USA/Israel   (07.14.07)
The Pope should mind his own business, and should also correct the moral corruption in the Catholic Church. The Pope only wants to get hold of parts of Jerusalem and try to tell the world want to do. To the Pope stay in Rome and clean you own house
13. No to Papal interference
Brod ,   USA   (07.14.07)
It is NONE of the business of the Pope to be interfering in Israel's internal affairs.
14. Dear Amercian Jews - your hatred toward our new president
Eldad ,   Haifa   (07.14.07)
will only make us love him more. president Peres has contributed to the state of Israel more then all of you (american Jews) put together.
15. peres:aspired to be a jesuit priest 1 time
yahn goodey   (07.14.07)
and i wonder if he still has the same mentality in an older body?if the pope spoke well of me-i'd be worried about my future relationship with the G-D of abraham/isaac and jacob-i dont think the pope has much of a future after this life is over for him.
16. Peres And His True Masters
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (07.14.07)
Peres will get right on it. He is in service to the Euros, the Vatican and Arab dictators anyway, A dark and sad day for Israel. He helps nail its coffin despite the economic boom and tecno prowess.
17. #11 - M. Hartley, you must be very young
Gary ,   N. Jersey   (07.14.07)
so you don't remember that picture of a former Pope giving Arafat a very, very warm welcome years ago. The Vatican loves the Palestinians. When was the last time you heard them complain about their treatment of Christians in the PA? The Vatican's hatred of Jews is such that they would rather have the Muslims rather than the Jews in charge of the Holy Land.
18. Olmert ,Peres work for Pope's N.W.O
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.14.07)
The globalists have everything planned including how to dispose of Israel. Those who rule Israel NOW are in on the plan which has been sold as peace. What is missing though is the peace and the more Israel falls into the trap the less peace Israel will see. The only reason the average israeli has not figured this out yet is that those in control have manipulated their brains so that they will qwuietly go to the slaughter and even provide the enemy the means to kill them. Why else would the Road Map agenda continue ?
19. All The Enemies Of Israel LOVE Peres
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (07.14.07)
All the enemies of our homeland are cheering him on. Think about this.
20. Explanations please
Roman Catholic ,   Germany   (07.14.07)
Could anybody of you guys who are so hostile towards the Pope and the Catholic Church explain what is going on? The Pope is not only a religious leader but he is also a head of a state. It is common practice in the international community to congratulate a newly elected leader. What’s wrong with that? The Pope expressed his hope for peace in the Middle East. What is wrong with that? Will you tell Geroge W. Bush to mind his own business if he writes a congratulation note to Peres – as he will certainly do since it is common practice? Why is nobody complaining about the evangelical Christians in the US? They believe that Jesus Christ will come a second time to Israel to fight the final battle between good and evil. According to the evangelicals two thirds of the Jews are going to be killed in that very battle. The other third of the Jews will convert and worship Jesus (See: http://christianactionforisrael.org/isreport/oct02/evangelical.html). Isn’t that ridiculous? So why are you not complaining? The Pope does not interfere with a single word into interior Israeli politics - it is only a simple diplomatic congratulation note. Get your facts straight and don’t be so paranoid. It is sad to see the hostile attitude towards the Catholics. Over here we have a very friendly and vital relationship with the Jewish community. Maybe our good and friendly cooperation is only a nice exception.
21. To #17
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.14.07)
I'm, actually, 69 years old, and though I don't recall the warm welcome you mention, I do remember Hilly Clinton's warm embrace of Suha. I think, maybe your dislike of Catholics clouds your judgment just a bit. As long as it's not me, I don't care who hugs whom or for what reason. Since I'm not privy to how Christians of whatever denomination feel about their treatment by anybody, I reserve my judgment until they tell me or I hear it from a reliable source. Besides, if one doesn't like where one is, one can always go somewhere else. It worked for me. Now, when I read in the Koran that all infidels, especially those of both Books, meaning Christians and Jews, are to be hunted down and killed "wherever you find them," I consider it a reliable source. If you can point to something equally as fanatical in the New Testament vis a vis Jews or anyone else, please do so, and I may change my mind. Unfounded paranoia doesn't look good on anybody.
22. 18 - Marcel, you're right on

I clicked on the link but it said Page Not Found. The article must have expired. Regarding the Evangelicals, Oh, yes, we do complain. Haven't you read the TBs whenever there is an issue regarding the Evangelicals and their attempts to convert? It was only a few months ago when the TB sections were steaming with very spirited comments telling the Evangelicals to mind their own business.
25. Who asked this moron's opinion?
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (07.14.07)
Here's a man who restored Catholics' prayer to God that Jews convert. Zevel.
26. #20 - Sure ....
AJ ,   Washington, DC   (07.14.07)
We are not talking about a friend of the Jewish people. We are talking about a man who just restored prayers in your litergy asking God to have us abandon our faith. That's how we see Ratzinger. Moreover, we remember the papacy's complicity, by Pius XII (hmmmm "Pius" - interesting name for a man who was less than that) in the Nazi extermination of European Jewry . So any step backward (and Benedict's decree is more than a step - its a body blow to Jewish/Catholic relations) is going to dredge up the past and tend to piss Jews off. Bridges between the Catholic church and Jews have been built slowly over the last several decades, and this pope is not a good man in my view. Moreover, Shimon Peres, himself, is unpopular in many circles, so Ratzinger's comments probably draw a negative response from those folks. As a people - we remember our friends, and perhaps to a fault, tend to remember our enemies. The papacy as an institution has not been considered friendly, although this is no comment on relationships between Cathlolic people and Jewish people which from my personal experince is strong (based on faith, a respect for tradition and ritual, etc.). I hope I have cleared some of this up for you
27. PERES ALREADY PROMISED MT. ZION TO THE VATICAN
Bobby Solo ,   Italia   (07.14.07)
28. #20 when you can find the time to read -
yahn goodey   (07.14.07)
your bible-even if you only read the old covenant/or the new and then look at what you see happening around you-you will have to come to the the conclusion that either you are being deceived by the leaders you trust or that G-D is a liar and i can assure you G-D is not a liar-you might want to check and see where G-D changed the sabbath to sunday-you wont find it-the catholic church took that upon themselves approximately 110 ce to save their butts from the roman legions that were murdering sabbath keepers which is what your church did to us and other sabbath keepers in the middle ages and what the new covenant prophesies will be done again by them when they enforce the mark of the beast.
29. #28 sabbath day accuracy
wonder ,   usa   (07.14.07)
you make the point that the church "changed" the sabbath to Sunday. What makes Saturday more accurately the day that god rested?
30. #21 M Hartley - Arafat and the Pope
Gary ,   N. Jersey   (07.14.07)
The following is from WND of Nov 13, 2004, after Arafat had died (of AIDS, by the way, as recently confirmed). "But the most painful and disgraceful reaction of all to Arafat's death, from the quarter where it was least expected, came from Pope John Paul II's jaw-dropping comments voiced through his mouthpiece, Joaquin Navarro-Valls: "At this hour of sadness at the passing of President Yasser Arafat, His Holiness Pope John Paul is particularly close to the deceased's family, the authorities and the Palestinian people. While entrusting his soul into the hands of the Almighty and Merciful God, the Holy Father prays to the Prince of Peace that the star of harmony will soon shine on the Holy Land. ..." In a second statement, Navarro-Valls said in the pope's name that Arafat was "a leader of great charisma who loved his people and sought to lead them towards national independence. May God welcome in His mercy the soul of the illustrious deceased and give peace to the Holy Land. ..." And this is from Catholic News Service of Nov 11, 2004: "Pope John Paul II considered Yasser Arafat the legitimate leader of the Palestinian people and thought his long struggle for a Palestinian homeland merited moral support. Primarily for those reasons, the pope met with Arafat 12 times, despite harsh criticism from Israeli and Jewish leaders and questions from many others. Their encounters included a historic visit to Arafat's headquarters in Bethlehem, West Bank, in 2000, during the pope's Holy Land pilgrimage. On that occasion, a beaming Arafat placed a medal around the pope's neck to honor the pontiff for supporting the Palestinian cause. Under Arafat's leadership, the Vatican opened diplomatic ties with the Palestinian National Authority, paralleling the Holy See's diplomatic relations with Israel. In 2000, the Vatican sealed a groundbreaking "fundamental agreement" with the Palestinian leadership regarding church rights in Palestinian territories. "
