1. Hope he does better than Katsav...
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.15.07)
Might be too much to ask though
2. Absolutely accurate, all the honor of the President's Office
Al ,   Jerusalem   (07.15.07)
A: "President-elect" What? Did I miss election day? B: Blowing a Shofar for someone who calls himself "Israeli" rather than "Jew" is a chilul Hashem. C: He already spent enough tax money on his honor for his 80th birthday celebrity extravaganza, thank you very much. D: Battered child? Israel is more like a battered wife for continuing to run back to someone who leaves us bruised and defeated. E: Right, he will always seek love from where it will never be granted, like the Jews who care about remaining Jews, and living in their ancestral homeland without fear. What he deserves is the same fate that he ordered for his main political rival.
3. No Honour In Sleazy Political Deal.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.15.07)
He would never have been elected in a fair election. So what honour is it? This is just a slimy political manoeuver, a political pay-off. It just underscores why we need urgent political reform. This is not about left or right but about having accountable & competant gov't.
4. G-d bless-it's YOUR #1 citizen!!!
Sammy ,   L.A.   (07.15.07)
5. Article Sounds Like a Eulogy.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.15.07)
But actually is more like a paid political announcement. As a eulogy it would be fine - after all, we wouldn't speak ill of the dead. But since Mr Peres is still alive, he deserves to be criticised with no holds barred & not white-washed or sugar-coated as this article attempts to do.
6. Battered Child? He's holding the stick!
Jameel @ The Muqata   (07.15.07)
What could be more appropriate for pompousness than a gala party and music at the start of the 9 days, when The Jewish Nation mourns the destruction of the Jewish Temples. As I write these words now, Jewish farmers, evicted from Gush Katif are demonstrating outside the Prime Minister's office -- having received next to nothing for being thrown out of their homes, and their livelihoods destroyed. Shimon Peres will wine and dine with his Disengagement and New Middle East cronies tonight, as the Jewish people start to commemorate the destruction of the Jewish Temples. The money wasted on President New Middle East Islamic Fundamentalist Gaza, would be better spent on the Guish Katif Jewish refugee problem that Peres helped create. He does not have my respect in the slightest. And the "battred child" anology is offensive. Peres is a politician; if he was "battered", he more than deserved it. Jameel @ The Muqata
7. Peres the President
Dr. David Feigenbaum ,   Netanya, Israel   (07.15.07)
Peres' first official acts should be visits to all families whose members were killed in post-Oslo terror attacks. After that he should visit all those who were wounded in those attacks.
8. how many more Jews will he kill now
Lauren Bacall ,   NY, NY, USA   (07.15.07)
Havlaga specialist only believes in haavra of Jews and not their mass-murderers. Them, he trains, arms, funds and feed for their worthy goal in his deathly eyes of deceit. Rabin never trusted him.
9. king peres sounds good to me
abdulla ,   ashkenaz   (07.15.07)
Given the critism he gets, he must be a true leader. Only true leaders get criticised, as they tend to lead the people rather than follow the basic instincts of the mob. I certainly hope his kingship saves lives and stops the bloodshed in the land of yi'sroel, and strengthens the traditional torah based jewish heritage. I am not aware of any isreali politician that has the credibility and strength to LEAD in this direction,as king peres. We hope this is his intention and wish him all the best. .
10. Oslo Deaths, Iraqi Nuclear Reactor
Abraham ,   Jerusalem   (07.15.07)
So many reasons Shimon belongs together in the dungpile of Jewish history.
11. Peres is a TRAITOR to Israel... and in his own words...
Nannette ,   London   (07.15.07)
The Israeli writer Yoram Hazony wrote recently a book titled “L’Etat juif” in its French translation. (I am sure an English translation must be available). In it, he talks about the historic evolution of Zionism. When it comes to Shimon Peres, he quotes him as saying: - “Any idea of a small Nation-State - the Jewish State included - has collapsed”. - “There is no doubt that the next objective that Israel should pursue is to become a member of the Arab League”. Second, consider this excerpt from Mr. Peres’s interview with Ha’aretz following his defeat by Benjamin Netanyahu in the May 1996 prime ministerial election: Interviewer: What happened in this election? Peres: We lost. Interviewer: Who is we? Peres: We, that is the Israelis. Interviewer: And who won? Peres: All those who do not have an Israeli mentality. Interviewer: And who are they? Peres: The Jews. Based on his own words, it is not outlandish to call Shimon Peres a non-Jew. Indeed, when Peres was Israel’s foreign minister in the 1991-1995 Rabin government, he applied for Israel’s membership in the Arab League!
12. Peres is an architecht of whoesale destruction of Israel
Malcolm   (07.15.07)
13. Traitor to Israel, not to the European Union!
Isaac ,   Israel   (07.15.07)
Shimon Peres deserves to be President of the EU. They have funded his Peres "Peace Center", promoting Oslo deaths, and more Israeli capitulations to her enemies. He has spent many years raising his personal honor above that of the country he purportedly represented by selling Israel out to the highest bidder. This article claims Shimon deserves this title because he has already received this type of honor around the world. If that is the criterion, than this is true. If the decision is based upon his loyalty to our people, we must remember that his honor was not due to his loyal representation of Israel, but because he was involved in selling us out to do the bidding of our enemies including the Europeans . Congratulations Shimon You are the president of the wrong body
14. peres
sas ,   israel   (07.15.07)
how can i be proud of a man that i know has had many love affairs? how can i be proud of a man that i know is corrupt and a liar? how can i be proud of a man that every wednesday orders his staff to find a place for him to travel to over the weekend so as not to be here, he is a cheap, low class person. will the real MR PERES stand up.
15. 5 - Terry
Talula ,   Israel   (07.15.07)
Terry, the President is not affiliated with politics at all. All he does is appoint people, sign new laws and treaties and has the power to pardon people. It's a no brainer really. And I for one, am glad that he has finally been given some sort of recognition from the country he has served for many many years. He has been right and he has been wrong, but essentially he is a good decent man. Good luck Shimon!!!!
16. Welcome!!!
Gazan ,   Gaza - Palestine   (07.15.07)
...and how many women did this stooge molest ....
17. peres now has the power to pardon ?
yahn goodey   (07.15.07)
no wonder olmert pushed so hard to get peres this office.olmert always thinking of himself and the potential for the day coming when he will be caught in some illicit scheme that will require a pardon.what so many humans do not realize is that all of us are in the end going to face G-D and be called into an account of what we have done in this life.if we try now to keep His laws it will go well for us-but if we trample all over them in this life-will G-D give a pardon?
18. Israelis as always quick to criticise and condemn . . .
Marcell ,   Nir-Am   (07.15.07)
Shimon Peres is a well-spoken, very knowledgeable and presentable man who carries himself with distinction and represents his country with honour. He is widely respected in the world arena including many Arab countries. He obviously loves his country passionately and has spent most of his adult life in service of Israel. I say we give him this chance, he certainly deserves it and I, for one, am proud to accept him as my President. Good luck to him.
19. # 8 Lauren Bacall
Sagi ,   Israel   (07.15.07)
You have been watching too many old "Bogey' movies, or maybe you knew the guy !!!
20. #16 not near as many as you muslim dogs do.
(07.15.07)
21. Peres is a fool, now with a title
Meir ,   New York   (07.15.07)
It was only four years ago that Peres admitted in a EU press publication that if here were president he would persuade Israel to "Palestinianize" - willing to forfeit Israel's Jewish identity for a Middle Eastern one. Funny, I thought he always wanted to be French!
22. our relatives have suffered at hands of-
yahn goodey   (07.15.07)
judenrats before and i for 1 am not interested in watching them try and herd us back into concentration camps again-and peres' ideas appear to be in aggrement with the popes that represents an organization that has put us thru the inquisitions before-if you wont learn from history-you will have to repeat its lessons.
23. #18 - Amen to that! Couldn't agree more
Talula ,   Israel   (07.15.07)
24. PERES DESERVES TO BE PRESIDENT
DAVID HARRIS ,   JERUSALEM ISRAEL   (07.15.07)
WE HAVE EXCHANGED ONE CONTROVERSIAL PRESIDENT FOR ON MORE THE THOUGHT OF MANY TO HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS ARROGANT LOUDMOUTH EGOTIST FOR 7 YEARS MAKES MANY WANT TO PACK AND LEAVE
25. Laughably feeble puff piece
sk ,   USA   (07.15.07)
You know that Peres deserves nothing when even someone who wants to sing his praises can't come up with anything.
26. "Qassams, Shmassams"
sk ,   USA   (07.15.07)
27. PERES THE PRESIDENT IS LIKE GIVING THE PRISON KEYS TO THE
SID Emess   (07.15.07)
PRISONERS. HIS ETHICS HAVE SHOWN TO BE CORRUPT. HE WOULD NOT EVEN MAKE A GOOD POLISH PRESIDENT SHOULD HE RETURN TO HIS FORMER HOMELAND AS HE TOLD A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR SOME YEARS AGO TO DO WHEN THEY PROTESTED ABOUT HIS INVOLVEMENT IN OSLO! SO MUCH FOR LEADER THAT ONE CAN BE PROUD OF - CERTAINLY NOT HIM
28. Peres = Oslo War
Alex ,   LA, USA   (07.16.07)
Oslo War is his greatest achievement. In this piece, nothing was told why the People has to honor this individual. Clearly it is the Oslo War a. Also the Nobel prize with Arafat (terrorist who had died of aids). What else, "kassams shasams"?.
29. President Peres is a dangerous Oslo criminal
Tomer ,   Herzelia   (07.16.07)
30. Sad but dangerous
Leven ,   Rehovot Israel   (07.16.07)
What a sad man who has never been chosen - yet what a dangerous man to this country - he and his kind brought us to where we are today and he will bring us no benefits. Now if only he would tell us what he is taking to make him look so young, at least then we could benefit from something he knows.
