1. In other words, all the TBs that have been critical ...
sk ,   USA   (07.19.07)
of these so-called "Darfurian" refugees have been DEAD RIGHT.
2. very sad, but...
David ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.19.07)
1) is not our problem. There are millions of badly treated people in the world. How can it be Israel's fault that the Egyptians treat them badly and the Beduin feed them with false rumors so they will make some money on the side 2) The more we let in, the more will come. The rumor-mill is already running overtime. The fact that the government let refugees out of prison to work in Eilat hotels sparked this whole thing off. 3) note: these refugees want to come and then bring their familes (as mentioned in the article) 4) the IDF must realize that an infiltrator is an infiltrator. Personal circumstances are irrelevent. 5) if we are not hardline and nip this problem in the bud it will be everlasting. The ONLY way of doing this is zero-tolerance, and hope that this message gets back to those seedy bars in Cairo ASAP. This is best for the refugees and also for the State of Israel.
3. blame the "human rights" organizatons
Daniel S. ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.19.07)
blame the "human rights" organizatons who let the few Sudanese in the country out of jail, hence starting the rumours. Because of this we will soon be faced with a catastrophe. This world is not always nice, especially this corner of it. This is why these people must be sent back as quickly as possible. Any delay means more refugees wating there money and further problems for Isreal.
4. What, their Islamic brothers in Egypt didn't aid them?
Cameron ,   USA   (07.19.07)
5. This is easy to understand: the Bedouins have always had
Mark ,   Philadelphia   (07.19.07)
a thriving business infiltrating illegals. If Israel wants to stop this invasion, it should go to the source: the Bedouin enterprise. The penalty for smuggling should be a significant fine as well as jail time. It should be strong enough so that the $500 per person they get is no longer such a good business anymore. Of course, there is a big security question that needs to be asked repeatedly: Who else other than economic migrants is crossing that border?
6. #1 - sk - I've been following these articles and
Mark ,   Philadelphia   (07.19.07)
it's an example of media reporting and the public process of coming to understand a very emotional issue. From wall-to-wall sympathy and demands for acceptance of anybody and everybody, to a more thoughtful reconsideration of the issue. Very interesting, indeed.
7. At best we are temporary refuge
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.19.07)
The problem is that bringing in Moslem refugees to Israel doesn't sound promising. If it were possible to act a temporary refuge with a mandatory repatriation to Sudan after 10 years it would be a very good thing. The problem is that any refugee that comes in may end up permanently living in a country they can never truly belong to. We have too many social problems to do the job properly and an influx of refugees will only exacerbate the problems.
8. This infiltration is another weapon aimed at Israel
Carl ,   Indianapolis, USA   (07.19.07)
With the complicity of the "human-rights-for-everyone-but-the-Jews" organizations, yes, and also the government. Look at how quickly it reacts to a demonstration by right wing kids. The whole army could be put at the disposal of the government if it is a matter involving right-wingers, but if it's enemies of Israel passing throught the borders, thanks to the Bedouin, then it's only a small matter that remains unsolved after YEARS of illegal people smuggling.
9. Refugees
Nemesis   (07.19.07)
From what I have been able to understand, these people are economic refugees, people simply looking for a better, easier way of life. They obviously have money to pay all the smugglers and middlemen involved in getting them there,so they're not destitute. Sure, they've been mislead by people looking for a few bucks, but the fact remains that if Israel opens their heart and lets them in..it will never stop..the next thing we know Israel will be overwhelmed by them, because they will come in the millions, once the word gets back. Israel is too small to accommadate millions, and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe most of them are Muslim. Israel has enough Muslim problems as it is now. Enough said!
10. #6 (Mark): they're not really understanding, Mark ...
sk ,   USA   (07.19.07)
If they were, you'd see mea culpa TBs here. Just as the Left wasn't chastened by the Jenin fraud or the Gaza Beach fraud, it won't recant here either. All the absurd leftist "racism" talk will return, no matter what, on some other similar issue. These people learn nothing.
11. #7 Ilan - not even a temporary refuge
Debbie ,   Seattle   (07.19.07)
The problem arises when they have Israeli babies. Things get even more complicated. No. They must be helped, fed, and sent right back to Egypt. It's Egypt's responsibility to monitor their own border too. And even the so called Sudanese refugees are not desirable either. The Ethiopians Jews tell horror stories of what the Sudanese, even the Christian ones, did to them while in refugee camps in the Sudan.
12. problem not so much those already in Israel
Jon ,   London, UK   (07.20.07)
the problem is that when word gets back to Cairo there will be no stopping the torrents of new arrivals. I suggest that the Israeli government returns these people (especially families) as soon as it possibly can.
13. suicide by guilt...and guilt laid on thick at that
jack bauer ,   usa   (07.20.07)
14. There used to be, and still is, an unofficial
Canadian Otter   (07.20.07)
agreement between the government and the Bedouin. The Bedouin were allowed to infiltrate people for illicit work, like the sex trade and other goodies, and in exchange the Bedouin were supposed to prevent infiltration by terrorists. What is shocking is the reluctance of the government to pass laws regarding "refugees" and to enforce those laws. Illegal Africans end up wondering the streets. This is absurd in a security-conscious country like Israel.
15. Sad, but NOT Israel's problem.
(07.20.07)
Israel and the Jewish people have been thru a lot , yes, but we don't owe anyone for that! Life Sucks for everyone! Buck up and get out of Israel illegal refugees!
