2. Is Olmert Happy now?
john ,   nz   (07.21.07)
What happened to that 80% Syria-Peace deal? It definitely looks like Damascus days are numbered and shorty Ahmedi and stupig Assad have a lot to answer for.
3. Iranian military aid to Syria
roxy ,   Israel   (07.21.07)
Since Syria accepted full military aid from Iran ,even when Iran insisted that the condition of receiving the aid was no peace talks with Israel, then Olmert wantinf to talk with Syria about returning the golan is a moot point! Assad has shown his true colors, he doesn't want peace with Israel ,he like the leaders in Iran want the whole land of Israel minus the Jews! So now that this Fact has been mad crystal clear to Olmert, ready the Homefront, give us the gas masks, fix the shelters for long term use, the fortification of Trama Hospitals, stocking up of Kupat Holims and then after that is done take off the gloves and go after Iran before they Have the Nukes to destroy us, or before they can give them to Hezbollah or Syria to use against us!!
4. Do the Lefties still want us to give away Golan for peace?
freejay ,   Israel   (07.21.07)
5. terrorist at work
rj ,   england   (07.21.07)
iran and syria are just a pair of terrorist countries that now do their dirty work publically without any condemnation from the arab world teh moslem world and the western world...a total disgrace..
6. Iran&Syria
t.i ,   Israel   (07.21.07)
the iranian regime doing everything to prevent peace talks between us and syrians. we can't supply syria bailors because we are not a flush country, so without external help's, syria continue being our enemy. one rocket- this is the end of Al-Assad. syria is a state not a terrot org.
7. the syrians cannot be allowed to have those weapons
jack bauer ,   usa   (07.21.07)
and the iranians know it. If the mig31s are in syrian hands it will be a major threat to the Iraeli air force, not to mention sukhoi fighters. 400 t72s are also not good news for the IDF Some new silkworm missiles to keep the navy away from shorelines. but the biggest problem may be missile production on Israels doorstep. Not crude pali rockets, but advanced russian missiles. BIOLOGICALS???? wtf Iran must want syria to be wiped off the map. I guess it doesnt take much foresight to see that assads family are not exactly the model shite moslems Ahmanismad wants to topple lebanons govt. ,get syria destroyed, and thus give them a reason to create a worldwide stage for his maniacal theatrics against Israel Beware! olmert and company are not strong enough to deal with this kind of a threat. I am not a religious person, but I will pray for Israel to weather this storm intact
8. So the masks (and gloves) are off...
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (07.21.07)
The talkbacks from certain quarters criticised Israeli intel for highlighting syria's war intentions instead of peace overtures. These reports prove that Israel can never be too careful when it considers embracing enemies who have sworn to destroy Israel. Please make sure your deterrent measures are exceptionally well-maintained.
9. It is your mistake guys
Fadi ,   Syria   (07.21.07)
If you go and ask anyone in street in Damascus , do you prefer relations with Iran or with the West , he will difinitly answers "the west" . but the wrong policies of the US and Europeans made us in Syria look for alternatives. no one is happy with our freindship with the Irani regime , Syria is a secular country wheras Iran is away far from that . you Israeli ppl should show more interest in peace with Syria ,they key to peace in the ME is Syria , and there will be no peace without it for me , I will keep looking forward to the day where our children can grow all together in peace , aday with no more blood and tears I think there are few Israelis share the same with me !!!!

Nice to hear from Syria... maybe Israeli people want peace with Syrian people but this can't happen any time soon. Israelis - like Syrians - can blame their government. Most people see Israel as an American puppet and feel that Syria dances when Iran pulls the strings. Sometimes people from Iran, Gaza and Lebanon send talkbacks saying they want peace with Israel. But what can people who are ruled by puppets do? I hope to see your name again on Talkback.
14. Syria and Iran
steve ,   london england   (07.21.07)
This agreement of cooperation in the perfection of armed struggle against the development of peace in the region should be recognized by the League of Arab States as a direct threat to its unity. Perhaps the future will see the League develop a common policy making framework within which deals such as this shall be subject to approval! This ofcourse would mean an Arab World organized along the lines of the European paradigm. It seems obvious to me that the question of whether or not Islam will have a capital or a secular role in the political determinations of Arab peoples shall ultimately be answered this way. The word 'federal' has its semantic root in the Latin verb 'fide'. A word that is usually interpreted in other tongues to mean 'trust' and 'faith'. How can the world enjoy a sense of trust and of faith in the policy makers determining international relations if agreements for military cooperation are fundamentally more important than agreements on the promotion of a culture of peace? The leaders of Iran and Syria have condemned billions of people around the globe to live in a world of certain violence and aggression. While they fornicate with fear and terrorism the ordinary citizen is forced to face life in local communities that is characterised by factional strife. This is all leading in the direction life has taken among factions in Iraq. Only the United States of America, Great Britain and the United Nations Organization working together to promote the articles of the UN's Declaration on a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence can turn this unholy situation around.
15. DETAILS OF PACT AND THE SOURCE

t.i ,   Israel   (07.21.07)
I believe you!, as you described without external incentives, your country continue being an irainian ally. so, both of us understand that, this complex situation isn't depend on us (israel). the vast majority of us wants peace with your country, but your president talking in two languages: 1. smuggling weapons to Hizbullah. 2. coexistence with us. your president need to choose what his the best option, both of us know very well that HIzbullah is a irainian proxy. as a matter of fact, I don't care if syria will rule on Lebanon, so most of the israelies. the source of the contemporary problem right now is the establishment of international tribunal to investigate al-hariri's assassination, It's not up to us, and me personally I don't care about it neither. another problem is the demanding of your president from us proclaiming to withdraw from golan heights in front of the negotiation , wait!, just because of it we will negotiate! I'm suggest you notice all the paradigms on the equation instead sticking the head in the sand. I will glad to read your comment fadi and I'm curious knowing which religion sect you belong , meanwhile have a nice day!
20. The Consequences Of Delusional Thinking
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.21.07)
And the lack of competance & strategic thinking at the highest levels of our political & military elites is an erosion of our security & a danger to our survival. We take for granted the existence of our country. We have become very complacent about our security. We are fooled because every day, we wake up & still find things going on as usual. But guess what? Nothing tells you this is reality, that the next day could be the last. Among the mistakes of the last war in Lebanon was not taking a preemptive strike at Syria. We had every reason to do so. We failed to understand the strategic necessity to eliminate a threat. Every day, at least during the first week of the war, I expected news of our engagement with Syria. I'm no general but I couldn't believe that it didn't happen. Only towards the end of the war did I realize how mismanaged it was. We will pay the price for our inability to act in our strategic interest. Every day, the price gets higher. If we don't change our way of thinking, we will eventually pay the ultimate price - we will lose our country. You think I'm an alarmist? I don't think so. I think I'm being realistic.
21. Israel Has a Defeatist Government
Jerry ,   NYC, USA   (07.21.07)
and Israelis voted for them, knowing this. Olmert's "we are tired of winning" says it all.
22. FADI, IN SYRIA
Brant ,   Hilton Head, USA   (07.21.07)
No Fadoi, the wrong policies in Syria made you align with Iran. Your history with the Nazis, then the USSR, then East Germany have ALWAYS shown your choice. But it is the choice of your dictators and not your people and that's where you are missing the opportunity. If you want peace with Israel and a place in the world where growth and and a bright future are the hope then convince your friends to take a stand. If you don;t, you are aligning with madmen who will use you to try (and fail) to get what they want.
23. hit the monkey man NOW

t.i ,   Israel   (07.21.07)
Terry, regarding your comment, I'm appreciate your thesis but you forgot 3 different facts on the israeli-syrian equation: 1. Al-Assad is a dictator who belong to the alawaite sect on syria (only 12% fronm the population), without anti-israeli propaganda the baath regime could be over. and believe me, we saw at the history revolutions even in dictatorships, for example: the iranian revolution's on 1979. 2. we can't supply syria international incentives, without western support's, Al-Assad won't leave the axis of evil. 3. you forgot about the international tribunal on Al-Hariri's assassination, the international community presses on syria, we don't have the infulence to stop it. It's frustrate fighting again, but what do you suggest?, proclaiming to withdraw from the golan heights before enterance's to the diplomatic negotiations, that's insane terry, don't you think so? Syria is secular regime so what?, it's means the syrians have'nt been hating us more than the iranians!, I think I'm totally realistic too.
