1. I thought they were elite
jack bauer ,   usa   (07.23.07)
but now I am considering a rethink all soldiers are treated poorly and not just in Israel either a hundred meters off complaining to their commander does not seem like total abandonment, but dozens marching off of base in march need some time in a cell
2. politicians, IDF don't protect, support soldiers.
dante ,   uk   (07.23.07)
the hollow men in the gov't and in the command echelon of the IDF do not train, prepare, equip, support the soldiers. unfortunately, olmertism is a disease that infects not just the gov't but also the IDF.
3. soldiers

idf and iaf, whether elite or not ARE THE BACKBONE OF ISRAEL'S FUTURE AND SURVIVAL. these people should be the number one on the government thoughts and lists. they should be given ALL AND EVERYTHING to ensure their safety and life on the job. if it wasn't for them, olmert would never be in government. he'd be long a casualty of terrorists. if only that should happen, israel will finally be free from its numner one terrorist....olmert.

5. Poor service conditions?
Talish ,   Phoenix, US   (07.23.07)
What exactly are they referring to?
6. This is the army - NOT Club Med!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (07.23.07)
But I would like to know what conditions they are talking about.
7. #4-would u be as supportive if
fed up with blabla ,   in isr   (07.23.07)
your son would have done same for ideological reasons? I pray your answer is yes-cause if it's not-then no wonder our army is full of woosies and cry babies! Soldiers were called to siruv pkuda during girush-everybody was in arms over it--how come nobody is commenting on them doing exactly same thing over "conditions"???
8. Disobeying orders? Where were they 2 years ago?

9. IDF has much to improve - The Soldier may be right!
meir elazar   (07.23.07)
In the Lebanon 2 War frontline soldiers were left without supplies, support, or reinforcements. The war was prosecuted very amateurishly on the ground by the headquarters. The emphasis was on the air campaign blowing up everything in Lebanon. The soldiers on the ground were largely forgotten. I can say from personal experience that when my wife was hospitalized 3 time during the last month of her first pregnancy and I requested a deferment of my reserve duty, IDF said "Zabashcha!" - "Your problem no ours" and I was not granted. My wife also suffered post-partum depression and I had to go to my resserve duty abandoning my wife when she could not cope. Only after I raised hell and the base commander lied did I finally get released after about 3 weeks. It is a lesson I will never forget. IDF has a commitment of "Tohar Neshek" - "Purity of Arms" towards the enemy but falls short in the treatment of their own troups. In conclusion, the soldiers, as did I, may well have a legitimate grievance and sometimes it take serious actions to get deaf commanders to listen.
10. What has happened to Israel?
Sidney ,   USA   (07.23.07)
I lived through the time when Jews died because nobody wanted them and a Jewish nation was a distant dream. And then, the glory days, when Israel was created and its people set an example for courage and devotion to each other and their country. And now, it seems as if the country is in total decline with the military a failure, great social inequality, and a corrupt government. Where do these young Israelis expect to go if they lose their country.
11. Disband this unit now
baruch ,   paris, france   (07.23.07)
This same unit walked off its base in March complaining of insufficient access to psychologists after the losses they suffered when they failed to capture Bint J'bail last summer. War IS hell. Disband this battalion now before the rot spreads. The IDF is Israel's last line of defense. It cannot afford weakness. Sweat saves blood.

Use your imagination (while you're lying on the Bat-Yam Beach) if you've got one.

finally, the anti Zionist education ministers sarid and aloni can point to sucess.Ms Tamir can bask in the glory of soldiers who have been brainwashed about the Nachba.

roy paulsen ,   london england   (07.24.07)
if more combat troops abandon their positions, ministerTamir will be able to have a chapter on the Israeli Nachba in Israeli textbooks. The thugs ofPeace Now will be able to protest the occupation of TEL AVIV,HAIFA RAANANA etc.
