1. Sign of the times
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (07.24.07)
Not long ago, jews fled Germany running for their lives. Who would have thought that 60 years later they would prefer it over the Jewish State.
2. Geman - Passport
Joseph ,   Jerusalem   (07.24.07)
I am sure that the Germans checked that the Soviet Jews were Jewish before the where allowed to immigrate unlike the Sojnut that made a mockery of the law of return. Maybe we should hire the germans for the ministry of interior so they can help us filter the non-jews. By the way I have polish citizenship and it is very confortable to travel with an EU passport. Moses is Moses but Business is Business
3. You'll be SOOOOORRY!
M. Harlley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.24.07)
4. Israel No Longer Feels Like Home
Morris Freidman III ,   Miami FL USA   (07.24.07)
I'm not surprised that Jews are choosing to leave Israel to return to their ancestral homelands or emigrate elsewhere, because Israel no longer feels like home. The values of far too many Israelis are in direct conflict with own, most are very rude, and the racist attitudes that are festering in Israeli society today bring back frightening memories of the past that I would rather not relive. Perhaps one day Israel will become the country we all hoped and believed it would, and then perhaps it will draw back those who today must seek better lives elsewhere in the world. But with the massive corruption at all levels and a revolving door leadership that never seems to really change, I'm gonna stick with the good ol USA.
5. Percent is statistically insignificant, blowhard article
David ,   Boston, USA   (07.24.07)
4,000 out of over 6 million. Give me a break. Do you know how many people move around the world every day. Personally, I would never live in Europe. I have zero trust in EU ever doing the right thing with Jews. Their history shows overwhelmingly the opposite is true. They dont appreciate what we do, our art, our music, our medicine, EVERYTHING. If you want to move to Germany so be it. All I know if Jews have many homes, but only one homeland, and my visit to Israel made that crystal clear. I felt at home there like I never could anywhere else. Its in our blood, our bones, our history, our culture, our religion. Israel, and specifically Jerusalem is the center of Judaism.
6. The facts
Katy   (07.24.07)
Most of these "Jews" who are seeking German citizenship are recent Israeli immigrants from the FSU who are only 1/4-1/2 Jewish and don't care much for their Jewish side. They only immigrated to Israel for the aliyah package and as a sort of stop-over to the US or EU. YNET please give all the facts next time.
7. #2 well until last year actually they didn't
iandl ,   Europe   (07.24.07)
regaining German citizenship is not in any way based on whether one is halachically Jewish: the figure of the Jewish community growing by a 100,000 immigrants from the former USSR is the number accepted as Jewish by the Jewish Communities. It does not reflect the number who entered Germany as part of the "Jewish contingent", which until a year ago paid no attention to Halachah and is far higher. However a year ago the Jewish communities finally accepted to act for the German government as a filter, so if they wouldn't accept someone, the applicant had less chance of immigrating ...
8. With increased antisemitism, where will they run to
Nannette ,   London   (07.24.07)
There's been purges of Jews in Europe for more than 1,000 years. Where will they run when there's another Holocaust. The signs are there, the propaganda is the same as it was in 1948... but next time, there will be nowhere to run, after Olmert has given most of Israel away and dealt the final blow to the Jewish state, by disallowing any law of return.
9. #1 RAMI...
stephane ,   france   (07.24.07)
most of the israelis who travel to germany are new immigrants from russia, and most of them are not jews...i asked once to a russian in israel why his family moved from israel to germany...it's because the russians learn germany at school in russia so it will be easier for them to start a new life in a country they speak the language...and about the jews rami? don't worry...there is a good alyiah from france and usa, and jews will keep on coming and live in israel...and also me rami...i will soon come to live in israel...

11. Are those making Yeridah to Germany
Dovy   (07.24.07)
only secular Jews or are most of the non-Jewish Israelis?
12. Israelis are after German Passports
Monique   (07.24.07)
Of course they are can you blame them with the way things are here? Israelis are also trying for American Passports too, anything any country that will take them just so they can get out of here.We live under a constant threat of impending war, strikes,a government that sits by and allowsSderot to get bombed daily, children to receive inferior education. No wonder why they are getting passports and citizenship for other countries.Thank fully I still retain American Citizenship as do my kids!
13. misguided........
yaakov ,   Jerusalem   (07.24.07)
I was born in germany, my parents are from poland, I could get a EU passport very easily, but........ after living with Essau most of my life, there is just so much sh-t you can take fools
14. Well, you live long enough you see everything
Cameron ,   USA   (07.24.07)
15. #2 Wrong
David ,   Los Angeles   (07.24.07)
Just like the Germans didn't base who they murdered upon halacha, neither will they base giving passports to their descendents upon halacha. It's only Israel that has an attitude to Am Yisroel that's more suited to Iran.
16. #2 & #6 - I vote for Joseph & Katy
Fed up & no joke ,   Israel   (07.24.07)

"Moses is Moses but Business is Business " good point!
19. The article forgot to mention
freejay3 ,   Israel   (07.24.07)
that the German government offers a much bigger incentive for jews to go back. Alot more money in the absorption basket to get started and other various incentives. The Israeli government offers very little to an oleh chadash, enough to buy food for 8 months and very little incentives or assistance(unless you come from russia).......believe me, i know through personal experience!
20. Shows what they think of Olmert
uber alles   (07.24.07)
That they would rather become Germans than stay here with him. Well done rotten kadimah.
21. other cause: german immigrants need to request german pass
uli ,   jerusalem   (07.24.07)
In my opinion the new high is due to a new law, where jewish Germans who are doing alija, have to request in a special procedure their german dual citizenship.
22. So Stupid - you are NOT german - they dont want you
andrew ,   miami,fl   (07.24.07)
23. why it shocked you?
is ra el   (07.24.07)

24. Find out who they are and cancel their Israeli

citizenship.Make them persona non grata here. Do it with everyone who leaves and acquires foreign citizenship.
25. Let the Arabs in Judea and Samaria move to Germany
David ,   Boston, USA   (07.24.07)
All I know is there should not be the creation of another Arab Palestinian state. IT doesnt belong. It does injustice to everyone. Two states, Israel and Jordan Palestine. End the experiment to create another arab state, unless its breaking up Iraq, which should happen.
26. PASSPORT TO AVOID...
MATTHEW ,   UNITED STATES   (07.25.07)
PASSPORT TO AVOID DEFENDING ISRAEL, IF NEED BE. WHAT A SHAME.
