36. #21 The new nationality law surely also has boosted numbers
iandl ,   Europe   (07.25.07)
The upcoming deadline for the introduction of a new nationality law requiring knowledge of German in advance of an application to immigrate may also have something to do with it
37. What Else Could One Expect?
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (07.25.07)
This is the precise result of what the hard left ruling in Israel have wanted to accomplish - the shedding of the younger generation's zionist roots. The regime would rather embrace an Israeli/German combination, than an Israeli/Jewish zionist combination. They now have a 'citizen of the world'. Mazal tov! A 30 yr old now was a 13 yr old when Oslo was imposed in 1993. The indoctrination and deconstruction of the zionist perspective was accomplished in the schools under Aloni et al. This is the result. Idiots!
38. @34 Germany is better for Jews nowadays than

any other EU country.
39. german citizenship
sas ,   israel   (07.25.07)
things have changed here. there is not ONE leader that you can trust - either they are corrupt or dumb. it's depressing and very scary. whoever can get a foriegn passport should do so. i am sure that ohlmert n company have one up their sleeves too.
40. to #34: Israel already has too much enemy states
Tobias ,   Germany   (07.25.07)
Of course the Germans killed more Jews than live today in Israel - but that was more than 60 years ago. In the past 50 years, Israel and Germany have developed a friendly relationship, to the benefit of both - especially Israel. Since its creation, the state of Israel has had other enemies - first Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi-Arabia, Egypt; now Syria, Iran, Hamastan, Hizbullah, etc. It would be stupid to declare a state an "enemy" who has been a friend in the last 50 years and continues to do so (especially now, with Angela Merkel as Chancellor). Perhaps it is easier to declare someone an enemy if you are an American, than an Israeli? Because USA is much, much bigger, and you think that you don't need anybodies' else's help? Fortunately, all the Israelis which I've met personally yet, distinguished between the Third Reich and today's Germany. I lived one year in Israel, and nobody insulted or offended me for my nationality, I'm very glad about this.
41. "Most Israelis"? Rubbish!
Barron ,   Israel   (07.25.07)
"Most Israelis" DON'T want German citizenship! I never met an Israeli who did. Maybe US, Canadian or Australian citizenship, but German? Not a chance. Even my "Yekke" husband, who grew up in Tel Aviv speaking German to his German-born mother abhors the idea of having a German passport, as do most of his Landsmanschaft.
42. German Jews
Brenda ,   London, Canada   (07.25.07)
One of the first things Hitler did was to strip German Jews (many who had served in World War One) of their citizenship. When it came to the Jews, the Nazis did not have a rational thought. This in a way is peeing on Hitler. That Jews can become German citizens. One might console onself that a lot of people just think it raises less hackles to show a German rather than an Israeli passport. It's not like a lot don't live in Israel and serve in the miltitary. People have US and Canadian citizenship too.
43. German citizenship
Dan ,   Johannesburg, RSA   (07.25.07)
I'm an israeli by birth but i also have german citizenship, i have had it for 17 years and it has been a great asset to have!
44. The problem with Europe ...
eric ,   EU   (07.26.07)
is that nobody feels at home there, not even Europeans. EU has turned into a giant business, where people are valued only for their productivity and where spiritual values are largely ignored.
