3. Islamists are all the same
Brod ,   USA   (07.25.07)
Whatever they say, don't take it as biblical truth. The Islamists are all the same. They all want Iran to have nukes so that the Ayatollah fanatics can wipe off Israel with nuke. Israel must not be naive in dealing with the Islamist-Jihadist world. The latter is driven by its fanatical religious teachings of Jihadism whose goal is to subdue, dominate and islamize the non-Islamist countries. Their tactics range from wars, violence, mayhem, terrorisms, hate sermons, deceptions, manipulations, funding, and Trojan Horse with multiple wives and exponential population explosions.

7. No thanks brod!
t.i ,   Israel   (07.25.07)
we always have a great relations with turkey, and we will keep it that way. the vast majority of the turks are against terrorism, they support on "two states solution". if you call yourself a moderate, so allow me to correct you because, any classification of 1.3 billion people into a terroists indicate you as a pit, racism and primitive. I can't take people like you seriously I'm sorry, you are just talking without background, it's too bad. and you better know, that the muslims turks rescued many jews during the inquisition, and I'm always be grateful for them!, have a nice day brod!
8. I pray that he's right and that good relations continue
Zvi   (07.25.07)
Turkey has been a good friend. Let that continue.
9. Jews were well treated in Ottoman Empire
Semsem ,   New York, USA   (07.26.07)
Jews were well treated throughout the Ottoman Empire.
10. AKP were Islamists, now they are religious democrats
Noam ,   Boca Raton, FL   (07.26.07)
AKP, the party that won Turkey's elections doesn't embrace the same type of political Islam that murderous Hamas, Hizbullah, and Iran embrace. Brod, you are flat out wrong in your analysis. I spent four months studying in Turkey, speaking to Turks (towards the end more and more in Turkish), and even the ultrasecular are impressed with the job Erdogan has done. Did I mention I met with both the Israeli Consul General and Israeli Ambassador to Turkey? Both of them said that under Erdogan's "Islamist" government, trade between the countries actually increased by 400% and every Turkish cabinet minister visited Israel. Yes Erdogan doesn't personally like Israel, but he realizes its in Turkey's interest to be a fair and honest player in the Mideast peace process and thus has continued Turkey's support for the Jewish state while still maintaing good relations with the Arab countries. He has shown pragmatism (such as abandoning schemes to outlaw adultery and ban alcohol in religious-majority neighborhoods, and keeping Turkey on track to join the EU by instituting many democratic reforms) unlike the thuggish, sharia-minded Muslim Brotherhood. Also AKP doesn't have its own militia that rejects government control. It follows the laws set down in the Turkish Constitution and respects the democratic process. To a lasting Turkish-Israeli-Middle East partnership!
11. Brod you are sick loser
Ali ,   Lebanon   (07.26.07)
that hates anything that relates to arabs and muslims...if u really care about Israel, why the hell are u living in the US...go back and support ur people rather than saying crap and making use of the American wellfare and system
12. Turkey, the Jews and Israel
Maurice ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.26.07)
Turkey has had a tradition of good and respectful relationship with the Jews. During the Spanish inquisition it was the Turks that accepted the Jews leaving Spain to come and live as normal citizens in within the Ottoman Empire. Ever since the Jews in Turkey have enjoyed very happy and prosperous lives. This good relationship between the Turks and the Jews has naturally been extended into Turkey's relationship with Israel. These two forward looking countries have so far had extremely close ties in the military, cultural and trade fields. This has been very beneficial for both and all signs show that it will continue.

Maurice ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.26.07)
What you are stating here is total racist and narrow minded garbage. You don't know what you are talking about. You have no idea who the Turks are and in what way they differ from Arabs or Iranians. Please go and do your study before coming in forums like this to spill your garbage.

I hope you are right about the Turks. The fact that the modern Turks do not behave like the Arab Islamists is because of Kemal Ataturk who turned Turkey from a path of Jihadism to a modern society. However, with an Islamist-based political party in power one can only see an unpredictable path in the future. Nevertheless, one should never forget history and the Turks' track record in Jihadism as they ravaged Eastern Europe and the Middle East from the 11th century to the turn of the 20th century. You can read about this in "Religion of Peace? Islam's War Against The World" [2006] by Gregory M. Davis, PhD.
15. so lets not pretend everything is rosy
jack bauer ,   usa   (07.26.07)
It appears that this was an organized attack initiated by an unknown adult tarikat leader. As in the Hrant Dink murder in January 2007, and a Catholic priest Andrea Santoro in February 2006, minors are being used to commit religious murders because public sympathy for youth is strong and they face lower penalties than an adult convicted of the same crime. Even the parents of these children are in favor of the acts. The mother of the 16 year old boy who killed the Catholic priest Andrea Santoro looked at the cameras as her son was going to prison and said, “he will serve time for Allah.” In an official televised response from Ankara, the Interior Minister of Turkey smirked as he spoke of the attacks. Amid public outrage and protests against the event and in favor of freedom of religion and freedom of thought, media and official comments ring with the same message, “We hope you have learned your lesson. We do not want Christians here"
16. But I agree that today and historically turks are
jack bauer ,   usa   (07.26.07)
much more friendly to their jewish populations then the arab people are. And as a peopple they are most agreeable and hospitable. My issue is however with fundamental islamics

You say: "One should never forget history and the Turks' track record in Jihadism as they ravaged Eastern Europe and the Middle East from the 11th century to the turn of the 20th century." The expansionsm show by the Ottoman Empire is no different than the expansionism shown by Europen countries such as the British Empire which owned territories all the way to India and Middle East, or other Europen countries such as France, the Netherlands or Portugal which all had conquered land all over the world and turned them into colonies. And you are forgetting about the Roman Empire or the Nazis. Were they also all moslems??? Your arguments make no sense. You just want to put all moslems into the same basket which is wrong.
18. Brod, show me the moderate muslims
tegyr ,   USA   (07.26.07)
Brod, you'd get less insults being a jihadist posting anti-Isreali comments than an American posting anti-muslim comments. Remember, no matter how unpopular any group is, Americans are the least popular.
19. Turkey's relationship with Israel
Rose Richter ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.26.07)
Turkey is pro-Israel and Turks are proud to claim our ancestor, Abraham, as originally Turkish! THEIR attitude is that commerce from Israel helps in Turkey and provides employment there. And the Mohammed Museum in the Topkapi Palace features Abraham's cooking pot and Moses' rod!
20. Turkey for Israel
Ozan Mehmet ,   Istanbul - Turkiye   (07.26.07)
I am a turkish muslim and i am insulted to see what this "brod" wrote. Turkey is very much pro-Israel and has great interest in the jewish state and its protection. Due to common sense we in Turkey want good relations with all countries in Middle East as we do not wish for conflict. We need the region to become more stable and we Turks certainly dont wish to make conflict with the Israelis. But aside from common sense, Turkiye has special interest with Israel..we recognised the jews as a minority to be looked after under the ottoman empire and we stil have their interests at heart. this is what the view is of majority of us secular peace-seeking turks turks. We hope Israelis visit our country and see themselves how hospitable and friendly we are...not like jihadist barbarian.
21. Best friends are Jewish
Michael ,   Vancouver   (07.27.07)
I'm Turkish and my best friends are Jewish, religion never gets in the way, it's the common respect and values we share that bond us.
22. Turkey & Israel always together
erol ,   melbourne, aus   (07.28.07)
Im very happy to see so many people standing up for the Turks. We both need each other and in many ways are very alike. As a Turk i am very proud that we have very good relations with Israel. At the end of the day we both hold the power in the middle east and believe in time we will improve relations even further. Ignorant people just make it harder, but they will fail in their selfish goals. Go Israel, go Turkey!!
23. Turks and Jews, friends for a long time, look it up
M Takman ,   USA ,California   (08.20.07)
From the first meeting in the start of the dark Middle ages where the Turkish Khazar Kaghans converted to Judaism into modern times Turks and Jews have enjoyed periods of remarkable close ties. These relations were always a contrast to the experience of Jews in Western Europe. In Five Chapters of these books five facets of this relationship are explored: More information about Turkic People 1. The First Turkish Jewish meeting took place nearly 1350 years ago. When The Byzantine Empire was oppressing Jews many Jewish refugees found shelter in the Turkic Khazar Kaganate. The legendary Kingdom Of Turkic Khazars whose kings (Kagans) and a sizeable amount of people converted to Judaism and established a Turco-Judaic empire in the Middle Ages. The articles by Benjamin Braude and Peter Golden give insight in the Turkish Jewish relations during this period. Peter Golden summarizes the results of his research into the Khazars and their relationship with the Jewish religion. Benjamin Braude tries to disclose the Myths of the Turkish Jewish relations. Home Page of the Khazars 2. The Second Turkish Jewish meeting was between the Turkish people living in Crimea and Eastern Europe who had adopted the Karaite religion. These people of the Karaite confession speak a very ancient and archaic form of Turkish. They may be the remnants of the Khazar Empire. Whether the East European Jews are descended from the Khazars is subject of heated debate (see Arthur Koestler, The Thirteenth Tribe). What is for certain is that there are Turkic speaking people with "Jewish" religion, Karaites and Krymchaks in Eastern Europe. These people are nearly extinct and the research into their unique culture is part of the second part of the book. The second chapter deals with The Crimean Karaites and Krymchaks. The late Polish Karaite scholar’s book Karaim in Poland chapter on Karaim origins and history asserts that the Karaim are the inheritors of Khazars. Articles by Ananiasz Zajaczkowski covers the historical background of the Karaites of Crimea and elsewhere who are of Turkish origin. Moshe Gammer reveals an interesting French report during the Crimean war that describes the Crimean Karaites and their way of life during the 19th Century. Dan Shapira writes about a forgotten Karaim folk-song of 1792 which reveals interesting information about the folklore and habits of Karaims. More information about Karaims /Karaylar
