1. And only Israel not using this tech
Name ,   City & country   (07.26.07)
"stalled due to bureaucratic hurdles" AAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGG !!!!!!!
2. if only someone would wake up in israel
rpc ,   modiin, israel   (07.26.07)
I am so glad this is happening for California's sake. But what about us? Why do we need to continue our dependence on Arab oil when we can do things for ourselves? What a silly bunch of bureaucrats we have sitting in the Knesset
3. #1 and #2 Absolutely right
Sidney ,   USA   (07.26.07)
California not Israel. How bad can a government be?
4. Solar Energy
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.26.07)
Solel, when you get through in CA, talk to Southern Co. We don't have a desert, but there are plenty of open spaces and more than enough sun in the Southern States.
5. We better invest in Israel, we own no oil
Shiloh   (07.26.07)
We need to wake up, we own no oil!! Read about peak oil and begin to understand what we, and the world is about to experience. Not that there won't be oil, but it is going to be very expensive to produce. Driving the prices of consumer goods through the roof.
6. I am sure the environmentalists will come up with some...
Rivkah   (07.26.07)
objection to this project. With wind mill electrical generators, it was the fear of birds getting killed by the propellers. With solar power, it will porbably be fear of ants getting fried in the sun from walking across the panels. Or maybe the flies and moths might get scorched, preventing them from damaging crops if they land on the panels.

That makes no sense. Environmentalists, like myself, are staunchly in favor of clean and renewable energy technology. I personally think Nuclear is the only viable large-scale solution, however anything that isn't a fossil fuel is great!
8. #7 please no more Chernobyl .Let's concentrate on solar!!!!
rachel ,   usa   (07.26.07)
9. #8
Moshe   (07.26.07)
Please. Chernobyl cannot be used as an example of all nuclear power, only shoddy soviet nuclear safety. There has never been a nuclear disaster in the hundreds on nuclear power plants run in the West. It is a safe and clean fuel, and we must utilize it. Solar isn't powerful enough and needs to much acreage.

chava ,   yerushalayim   (07.27.07)
Wasn't there a problem many years ago at Three Mile Island? And I think in Japan and in Germany? It's not simple. Certainly solar power is a really good start. What are we waiting for?
11. #9 what you work for the nuclear power industry ?
rachel ,   usa   (07.27.07)
12. #9 what about the recent earthquake in Japan?

13. #7 Moshe: Nuclear power? Did you know that...
Rivkah   (07.27.07)
the entire world's drinking water supply was contaminated by the meltdown at Chernobyl and the radioactive cloud that traveled around the world? Dr. David Edwards of Fresno, California, was the physician for the year for America a few years ago and that is what he says. Get a hair analysis done at Doctors' Data Inc. of chicago for $109. with a doctor's prescription and see how radioactive your body is before you get cancer from it. Then tell me how safe nuclear power plants are. Nanotechnology solar which is coming down the pike will make solar power affordable. That truly is non-toxic. The waste from depleted uranium from nuclear power plants has a half life of at least 10,000 years. What are you going to do with those spent power rods? I KNOW. Use them on missiles for super hard weapons that penetrate bunkers like in Iraq. The problem with that is that the "spent" uranium contaminates the soil and the air, essentially "forever", like in Iraq. Check out the babies being born downwind of Iraq in Kuwait: butts where the head should be, etc. People in areas contaminated must eat a lot of cilantro to pull our the radiation and give cilantro tea to babies and children. They must also take multi-vitamin and mineral supplements because the cilantro will pull out the good minerals with the heavy metal radioactive minerals. The Prophet Jeremiah said Babylon (Iraq) would become uninhabitable forever in judgment for destroying the FIRST TEMPLE of Solomon. That is happening thanks to spent fuel rods from nuclear power plants molded onto missiles. Maybe Iran and Syria would like to become uninhabitable forever, too. Hmmm.
14. Well , lets have it too
charles ,   petach tikva   (07.28.07)
In the mean time be proud that those are again Israeli great brains who worked this out .
15. ???
(09.25.07)
what i dont get is that it is israelis that own solel and they helped solar power possible and yet the gov. is not using its peoples advise!
16. solar acreage
C B ,   New York, US   (02.09.08)
when you add in all the square miles of uranium mines and processing plants and waste storage solar probably takes up less land, and it doesn't make it unusable for future generations, like nuclear does - TMI is a permanent museum of the folly of nuclear power
