The question is what price will Israel have to pay for this money? The US gives Israel these little rewards every now and again and in return it have a veto over the Israeli arms industry,, Israel only sells home made weapons which the US allows it to sell and who it sells them. As a result Israels arms industry doesnt invest in things that the US is likley to veto so there is no competition for the American companies. Whats the point in spending millions of dollars developing a weapon if the US is going to sell Israel an American version with millitary aid and the US will use their influence to stop it being sold abroad so it keeps Israel dependent. The millitary aid that the US gives to Israel and many other countries isnt about friendhisp or a desire to keep these countries safe its about taxpayers subsidise the US arms industry whch th government would not be allowed to do directly so instead its done via money alocated in the budget for foreign millitary sales. This also reduces competition for the US companies because if you can get the American version for free then why develop your own which you can later export. Allthough the officiql position is the US wants to help an ally its about ptotecting American interests of weaather they are influencing political economic or millitary policies made by the Israeli government. The US doesnt do anything for free and its not about goodwill and allthough this money is alot to Israel to the US its penuts and a cheap price to pay for what they get in return. This little relationship suits the US perfectly its a carrot and stick ... Israel becomes adicited to these American rewards and as long as it does as its told they will come but as soon as Israel starts to act to indipendently the stick is used and the rewards are stopped and because Israel has allowed itself to become adicted to what the US offers it no longer has the ability to stand on its own two feet and become totaly reliant on the US for its existance.
