1. Palestinian accidentally shot
Darrien ,   UK   (07.27.07)
Why was the man shot instead of being arrested/questioned? Who in the IDF authorises these trigger-happy incidents? In a democracy, which Israel claims to be, people are normally innocent until proved guilty - not dead until proven innocent!
2. To #1 In war, the rules are different
Daniel ,   Helsinki   (07.27.07)
One can boast about democracy and how one acts but in a war zone one can't afford to hesitate.
3. #1 You are a hypocrite
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (07.27.07)
You say a person is innocent until proven guilty, but yet you already saying the Israeli soldier is guilty before you hear all the facts.
4. IDF has value problems all right...they've been taught to
Eli ,   Tel Aviv   (07.27.07)
value enemies lives more than their own.
5. To #1...London Bus Bombings
John ,   UK   (07.27.07)
How many times did our Police shoot that Brazilian after the bus bombings becaue they were scared shitless and thought he was a muslim? No charges, no nothing against them ...the guy was just getting on a train, and 2 cops put 10 bullets into his head at point blank range....

No 1 made no such claim that the member(s) of the IDF are guilty until proven innocent - which by the way is the basis for the entire French criminal legal system - but he accused them of being trigger happy. And the record of similar incidents is too great to ignore and not to reach such a conclusion. As to your contention that Hebron is a war zone, when was it declared as such? And if it was what are the rules of engagement within it? I think you'll find that in war zones, civilians such as the one shot and wounded here, have certain levels of protection, or doesn't the IDF in which I presume you and I have both served discriminate any longer between civilians and the enemy? And why have you rushed in to defend the members of the IDF unit - commanders and ranks - about whose values there are serious failings. That suggests that their moral values are at fault - you know the sort of thing this means, that Palestinians are not humans , not people, all terrorists etc etc. These are the kind of values you defend by saying what you say. Of course if you hold such values, that's fine. But if so don't call Israel a democracy or suggest its citizens abide by law and order, because that is a selective view - it seems only to apply to Jews and not Palestinian Arabs - and remember also that the laws frequently broken on almost all issues in the W Bank are those extended by us in our occupation and they encompass how our armed forces are supposed to behave and how the civilians - including the Palestinians we temporarily occupy - are to be treated. Those who deserve praise however are Maj. Gen. Shamni and Brig. Gen Tibon dfor supervising the investigation and announcing the results and the actions following this up. At least someone in this benighted regime seeks to uphold law and order.
7. #6 Trigger happy?
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (07.27.07)
You too, jumped to a conclusion,How can you,who was not there, know,if he was trigger happy. You like others, accuse Israeli soldiers of all kinds of saddist things. Maybe he was trigger happy, but what if is this man,did have a weapon, then maybe an other Israeli soldier, would have had a funeral. Don't judge others, until you know all the facts. If this soldier, did shoot and had no reason to,beyond a doubt, then he should be punished but not until then. One last thing,Our soldiers risk their lives, every day and you as an Israeli, should give them your backing and the ones who do unlawful things, will be punished, and with that,I wish you a Shabbat Shalom and as we who live under the threat of Kassams every day,may your day be a quiet one.

Thanks for the Shabbat wishes which I heartily reciprocate but you - typically- didn't answer the point. I have not condemned anyone only noted the investigation and given you the more accurate context - the one in which our brave soldiers were investigated because something went wrong with their values. And that's the real crux of this and as usual, just like the rest of the herd/tribe here, you simply do not want to go reply to this. So you resort instead to national victimhood.

First time ever on here have i ever heard such "debate". Thanks for restoring my partial faith on the human kind. my own views. If he was proved to have shot without thinking, sure punish him as the laws dictate. If israel does not, then it really shouldn't say that its the only democracy in the middle east (thats another topic for another time). If a country states that they live by the rule of the law, and unless there is a hidden rule saying that they can shoot randomly at palestinians, then the law has to be applied. Fairly

Take a look at the next story 'in the series' - '6 soldiers nabbed for hijacking, shooting'. Very sadly thios first one is not an isolated incident, but Daniuel at Nahal Oz won't get any further into this for the reasons he's stated and so have I.
11. To all
Ghandi ,   Palestine   (07.28.07)
It is not a secret that almost all incidents that take place in the area are being investigated by neutral bodies, local and international, and all are being documented, I am sure justice will prevail one day. and killers will be judged. What worries me is the way that some will try to justify the killings, on either side. The report says that a grp of soldies took a cab "drove it through the village streets", " the force saw a Palestinian man, mistook him for a wanted suspect and shot at him." " The soldiers failed to report the incident". #2 Why should soldiers take a cab to a war zone? # 2 " shooting of a Palestinian bystander ", the soldier could have waited for ever the man was not armed. He was not the wanted #3 army report is tellling that the soldier shot a man by mistake. #5 shootings any where in the world does not justify this incident, #6 the soldiers were having fun and they shoot for fun, just follow up the case and u will find that. justifying the killings make u partners, pls do not put innocent blood on ur hands. let us restrain our killing machines and live in peace.
