1. Was there "The Palestinian national movement"
Rehavam ,   Israel   (07.27.07)
50 years ago? or Ronny Shaked smoking pot? Revisionist from history or alternative reality?
2. Palestinian nationalism
Hilda ,   USA   (07.27.07)
Not to worry, Bush has taken up the cudgel and won;t let it fall. Rice has begun to really show how mean and anti semitic she is. No doubt at all they will push until Palestine replaces Israel. unless G-d intervenes on Israel's side because the Olmert-Peres combo won't fight it. and Israel despite all the talk appears to be asleep at the polls.
3. The PA don't want, can't make and won't maintain real peace,
Uzi ,   Haifa   (07.27.07)
especially not among themselves. The best solution for everybody is to reverse Oslo and do away with the PA. The only viable nation state of all Arabs of Greater Palestine is the Kingdom of Jordan whose governments have maintained for 40 years that Palestine is Jordan and Jordan is Palestine. Israel and Jordan should agree on the border between them in Judea and Samaria and maybe cede Gaza to Egypt that would sort it out quite smartly. Everybody should stay where they are and nobody should move from their homes or land.
4. We have our own bunglers to worry about.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.27.07)
The fact that the Palestinians have bigger bunglers than we do is not news. To a certain extent, it reveals the failed thinking of our own leaders who give evidence daily that they haven't a clue on how to deal with the Palestinians. Otherwise, most of the article is a crock, just a bunch of BS. Arafat was no democrat, Abbas & Fatah are not proponants of democracy & peace as opposed to Hamas, the new bogeyman. What we are looking at is the typical pattern of political development in Arab & Muslim countries. There are no good guys to support (ask the Americans about Iraq). There are no moderates. We are not talking about Sweden or Finland. There is no "Western" model in which to "fit" the participants. It is not religious vs secular (Arafat had no problem using Islam as a political tool) nor is it left vs right (except for some rhetoric) & it is certainly not about democracy in any sense we would understand. A more appropriate comparison would be to study politics & religion in the Middle-Ages, say 1200 to 1400 but without the Renaissance. In the meantime, we should concentrate on getting rid of our own bunglers before they do us lasting damage.
5. move to jordan...live a better life
(07.27.07)
6. did you mean: nakseh ?
(07.27.07)
7. NAKBA, NAKSA, WAKSEH, SHAKED NEEDS TO STOP THE DRUG USE.
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.27.07)
May the Fatah and Hamas, as long they insist on not going back to their land, prosper in their effort to defeat each other.
8. And these are the people that you're
Zooog ,   USA   (07.27.07)
sending thousands of rifles to???
9. corruption or else!
Palestinian   (07.27.07)
The palestinians are being punished because they did not elect the lords of corruption aka Abas and the fatah gang... so now the Palestinians are accused of choosing extremism even though everyone can see its not!
10. I Notice Hamas Men Always Wearing Masks - Perhaps...
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (07.27.07)
...they wear Mickey Mouse, Farfur, Daffy Duck and other more friendly-looking masks to improve their image. I mean they have to wear a mask anyway right?
11. This article hits the nail on the head!
DR ,   Florida,USA   (07.27.07)
Hamas, a terror gruop, is gaining popularity and strenght as Israel sits and watches. F_ck what the US and the EU say. Israel needs to o what is best for Israel. The US gov't has its own interests and will only act upon them. Israel needs to replace its inept leaders and start working towards a solution for itself. The Palestinians have been given too many chances and have proven to be incompetent in all areas of politics, life and peace. Wake up Israel!!! Your future is at stake.
12. now we have open apartheid in gaza, courtesy of hamas
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (07.27.07)
that's not to imply that it wasn't apartheid before the ethnic cleansing of their fatah brethren. you gazans enjoy your moving traffic now. just be extra sure that any man and woman in a car is a close relative, lest you have more of those annoying extra-judicial honor killings in the motorway to slow things down.
13. core nature of palestinian statehood
observer ,   los angeles   (07.27.07)
some times the hate is the quintescence of establishment of an institute, like many palestinian movements ( hatered of israel), feminism ( hatred of men), communism ( hatred of current establishmennts) and ... intrestingly many of these hate based organizations, "love" each other!
14. fatah-hamas rift
jim ,   jlm   (07.27.07)
as you all will soon see was planned hamas received all the fatah's arsenal fatah received millions of $ & more weapons can anybody guess why?
15. # 3 Uzi
Sagi ,   Israel   (07.27.07)
Good solution for all. Only one problem, Egypt does not want them.
16. the heading should read: GREAT; Palestinian downfall
Jester   (07.27.07)
not 'Great Palestinian downfall' lol
17. Ronny Shaked, thank you
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (07.27.07)
Your analysis on the future of the rift between nationalists and islamists in palestinian areas gives us ,the Israelis , the hope that now is the time to recover from our own rift. As to the Palestinins ,nothing constructive will be born from that rift. They will get entangled deeper and deeper in hate and destruction.
18. Payments to Palestinians
Old curmudgeon ,   Los Angeles, U.S.A.   (07.28.07)
If Abbas is using funds provided by the Israelis to subsidize fatah "supporters" in Gaza, why does Israel continue to provide those funds? Why not let Haniyeh and his gangsters support the Gaza population? In any event he will turn them against anything Israeli, and they will take his side.
19. #15 Sagi, thaks for your kind words.
Uzi ,   Haifa   (07.28.07)
Actually there are many problems but when there is a feasible solution and goodwill, there is a way. The people of Israel don't want any Arab link or passage between Judea and Gaza and Egypt can be persuaded to take Gaza over with a lot of international aid and trade.
20. the palestinians are our adversaries and enemies
aaron ,   ra'anana   (07.28.07)
when they are divided, its good for us. we should try and divide them further.
21. Hey Marcel, I suppose this is Bush's fault too.!!!
johnson ,   usa   (07.28.07)
22. It's unclear what the Arabs offer Israel in return for what
they want   (07.28.07)
Maybe Israel should let Hamas depose Abbas and smash Fatah in Judea and Samaria, or even help Hamas to do so. It would make it easier to reverse Oslo and get rid of the PA, which is festering, decomposing and becoming a growing health hazard for everybody. This will open the way for Jordan to become the only nation state of all Arabs of Greater Palestine and then Israel and Jordan should agree on the border between them in Judea and Samaria and maybe cede Gaza to Egypt that would sort it out quite smartly. Everybody should stay where they are and nobody should move from their homes or land.
