The US supported Israel's attempt to destroy Hizbullah in Lebanon and was willing to hold off the Euros to advance this. But Israel copped out, sided with the Euros, and the US quickly backtracked. Since then, the US has increased communications with the Axis of Evil, as Israel cannot be relied upon to advance a joint US/Israel mission. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the US was just WAITING for Iran to try something directly against Israel, at which point the US would have attacked Iran under the banner of defense.

According to a recent article from Al-Mustaqabl and the UN cartographers, Syria currently occupies around 4% of Lebanon. You resisting them? You fighting to get Lebanese prisoners released from Syrian jails? If the operation to kidnap the soldiers was planned "well in advance" then that rules out earlier Hizbullah lies about the IDF being in Lebanon or it being a plan to pre-empt some plan to take over South Lebanon.
