32. 3 - the point not to blame Iran, but create context
perspective ,   USA   (08.02.07)
The article employs irony, a generally accepted literary technique, noting that Iran's ire towards Israel is allegedly due to behavior which it, too, embraces. Unlike Iranian propaganda, this article is not meant to incite against Iran, but merely note a phenomenon in the region. The article is not even trying to blame this behavior in Iran for problems in the Middle East as a whole, rather point out that this phenomenon is not unique to Israel, and as such, suggests that Israel may not be the crux of all the world's evil, as you and other historical revisionists constantly love to suggest. As for 'worst occupation', I find it interesting that you are willing to ignore almost three entire continents (Africa, South America and most of Asia), who suffered centuries of terrible abuse (slave trade, anyone?) at the hands of 'occupiers' who had no historical or political claim to the land whatsoever, the brutal repercussions of which are still being felt today, DECADES after decolonialization, because of the deliberately problematic boundaries that were drawn for the colonies and the European insistence on using uti posseditis juris in the creation of independent nations from those colonies. Even if we don't leave the borders of Europe, the conflict in Ireland went on for almost 8 centuries, with the Irish constantly touting the concept of British occupation. You speak of Israel's case as the 'longest'? I really think not! And these statistics hold true even if we view Israel perniciously, through judgmental eyes such as yours, and erroneously imply that its existence is neo-colonialist and that Jews have no inherent right to the State. These statistics are true even if we don't point out the legality (in international law) of occupying an area for security purposes. If we took the debate to an ideological level of that sort, your argument would be undermined even further. As such, your response, with its selective view of Israel in the scope of history and of foreign affairs, illustrates nothing more than a deep-seated and completely unjust bias.
33. Poor James!
Ruth ,   An ex-Brit   (08.02.07)
Yes, James, you are right, we should just sit down like the British, and let terrorists and fanatics walk in, take over our culture, bomb our trains, and then proudly call ourselves a multi ethnic country. Sorry James, I am also a Brit......but when the cards are down I am a Jew, I learned that in Germany, when other Jews called themselves 'German' and still found themselves in the gas chambers, but you carry on deluding yourself and teaching us morals but to the average englishman, you are also just a Jew!!! So you might as well be proud of your people, and not a miserable excuse for a Jew!

39. Pretty ironic coming from an Israeli paper huh?
Jasem ,   Dubai   (08.26.07)
I guess Iran and Israel have found something in common - if any of this is true, of course.
