31. Oh come now!
Marlene N. ,   New York City   (08.03.07)
This should not be uncommon in a racist society because racism actually knows no bounds. In Israel, it is not only against Arabs, but it extends itself to other groups of people. What about the Israeli Russian paper Novosti who had an articl entitled "How to Force Them to Leave," which detailed castration of Arabs as a method. Heavens, can you imagine if this referred to Jews in any country throughout the world, especially in a so-called "democratic" society?
32. #29 you hypocritical oaf
izzy d   (08.03.07)
you say that an apology is not enough and then go on to claim that Yemenite culture is better then all other ones. that is closer to racism then the original remark. you also say that yeminite kooking is better then all others and THAT is insulting everybody elses culture and cuisine. so an apology is not enough for you to get over a remark. wow. you're an idiot as well as an insulting racist bastad
33. Haredi men "walk around with cloud of pungent odor"
Clean=godly ,   Israel   (08.03.07)
because of a much worse reason. So there.
34. #31 you ignorant oaf
izzy d   (08.03.07)
a democracy allows such behavior. ever heard of freedom of speech?? Oh thats right, you don't bother understanding concepts before you sling them around. why dont you accuse her of being a fascist? thats what ppl like you love to call them with differing opinions, no?
35. Call it what you like but we're all racist

37. No. 26 M. Hartley
NYC Girl   (08.04.07)
That's a great story, and, sadly, I have to agree with you that there's far too much divisiveness. In fact, when I first met my husband, an Israeli of Iraqi extraction, I was stunned to learn that there had been a great deal of prejudice toward Middle Eastern Jews on the part of many European Jews. But, on the other hand, I knew an Israeli girl, whose parents were Yemenites, and she had once dated an Iraqi boy whose parents were appalled at the thought of his marrying a Yemenite. And that made me think about how my father used to say (albeit good-naturedly) that my mother was a gypsy because of the city in Poland her grandparents came from... which wasn't the same one his grandparents came from. And while my father did it in jest, there were those people who took the differences far more seriously because it made them feel superior, although I suspect that was a distinction that would have been entirely lost on the Nazis, for instance. So I guess it just goes to show you that, no matter how far down the ladder any group of people may be, they always need to feel there's somebody who's a rung below them.
38. To the uncivil Izzy #34
Marlene N. ,   New York City   (08.04.07)
Yes, I've heard of freedom of speech and the right to express one's self, however, let's see some Holocaust denial in a newspaper and I'll bet that's where freedom of speech ends, and that my dear is not even racism, but just some people disagreeing with historical events. Since Israel is a society who is the first one to scream anti-semitism at any criticims even directed at its state, then hatred and/or racism should not be tolerated. coming from its own papers. However, as I said, what can be expected from a racist society but only more racism.
39. who's funkin' up the place?
Treifalicious   (08.04.07)
you know, these haredim have a lot of nerve talking about yemenites smelling bad. Some many of these 100% ashkenazi haredim don't bother with deodorant, regular showers or laundry and totally reek. AND their food sucks. so who's better off, eh?

Are you equally as exorcised over the blatant racism endemic in most Muslim countries? You seem to have a stunningly ignorant blind spot where Israel is concerned, and now having read your comment about Holocaust denial being nothing more than "some people disagreeing with historical events" it's become a lot more apparent where you're coming from.
41. Yzzi regarding this "marlene"
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.04.07)
Let this marlene talk , she is one of the greatest antisemites and anti Israelis on earth . For her Israel is the biggest racist country , she certainly does not know what this word means . regarding this article , it is not full of love for our Temanim , at least . There are bad smelling people in the whole society , in the whole world .
42. NYC girl
charles ,   petachtikva   (08.04.07)
Your last sentence in your tb to M Hartley gives us one of , if not the greatest of , the reasons of antisemitism in the world .

Saadia Terry ,   Yemen   (08.04.07)
I was purely expressing an opinion unlike yourself who chooses to use ignorance and abusive petty remarks. I can honestly say though.......... "You sure do stink" end.
44. To # 38
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (08.04.07)
There is no such thing as "denying historical events." Either something happened or it didn't. If it was an "event," it happened and denying it is plain stupid. Irrefutable facts are not subject to opinion. You can deny that the sun rises in the east or "opine" that the earth is flat, but it doesn't change the fact that one does and the other one isn't. Freedom of speech and expression, however, will allow people to make total asses of themselves, and heaven knows, some people take full advantage of it.
45. To No. 44
Marlene N. ,   New York City   (08.04.07)
Better to put it this way...one certainly has the right to question historical events which is not by any means racist, and no one should have to go prison for that. But let's face it, an historical event is that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were expelled from thier homes and lands in 1948, however, their ethnic cleansing is denied outright or it is distorted by zionist myths, and it is not considered a crime. Isn't it amazing how the rules change according to the roles.
46. To # 45 A few more "events."
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (08.05.07)
1. Israel became a nation in 1312 B.C.E., two thousand years before the rise of Islam. 2. Arab refugees began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel. 3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 B.C.E, the Jews had dominion over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years. 4.The only Arab domination since the conquest in 635 C.E. lasted no more than 22 years. 5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit. 6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 hundred times in Bible. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran. 7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem. 8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem. 9. Arab and Jewish refugees: Arabs were not driven out of their homes. Following the UN decision on Partition in 1948, the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders, promising to purge the land of Jews. They argued that an "Arab presence" would only get in the way of the planned devastation. Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier. 10. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms. 11. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees absorbed by Israel from Arab countries is estimated to be the same. 12. Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own peoples'lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey. 13. The Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won. 14. The P.L.O.'s Charter still calls for the destruction of the state of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank and autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied their police and security forces with weapons. 15. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Jewish grave markers were used to build public urinals in occupied Jerusalem. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths. 16. The U.N. record on Israel and the Arabs of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel -- notwithstanding the fact that the Arabs refused to participate in the 15 nation United Nations Commission of Palestine which recommended partition in 1948 and sought immediately to undo its work by force of arms. 17. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel. 18. The U.N. was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians between 1948 and 1967. 19. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives between 1948 and 1967. 20. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall between 1948 and 1967.
