There are 70 pork selling shops in Nethanya . They are not only there for this category you call Israel hating immigrants . Don't you know that in Nethanya there is a vast proportion of Olim from France ? Don't you know that they like also "un bon sandwich jambon beurre" , a good ham + butter sandwich ? I guess that long before this immigrastion from the ex USSR , there were also pork selling shops here , no ? And don't be such an anonymous coward , give your true name

What happened to saying thank you for pointing out your reading error? C'mon Charles, I don't give my name so as not to embarrass you. I'm one of your friends. Or was....
35. #33 - Charles, there are some subtle differences
David   (08.04.07)
Yes, we type on the Sabath and we do many normal things that the ultra-Orthodox don't. The difference is that what we do inside our homes is not directly offensive to observant Jews. My opening a store that sells pork is.
36. Some Diet!
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (08.04.07)
Between mad cow disease, avian flu, mercury in fish, pork burning my insides, somebody's infecting melons, spinach being loaded with ecoli and everything coming out of that micro as just one more carcinogen, I'll end up living on ramen noodles, used tires and the occasional celery stalk. I'm trying real hard to make that sound like a fun smorgasboard, but so far, I only have a case of severe heartburn just at the thought of it. 180 proof vodka should be ok, huh? A few good slugs of that and maybe I'll forget and won't give a flying flip about my miserable diet :-)

when one leader decides how many times you are allowed to take your breath on shabbat or how many sheets of toilet paper you are allowed to use-maybe we wont even be allowed to use the bathroom on shabbat-too much work?carry this onto extremes and we should all be in strait jackets chained to a wall.
38. Pork-selling deli set on fire
Paul ,   Haifa   (08.04.07)
The Nazis burnt down Jewish shops because they thought they did not fit into their vision of the fatherland. Is this not the same thing?

Pork is a tasty healthy and inexpensive meat.Do we stone aduterers? Kill gays?Keep slaves? Treat women as chattel? The rantingsof some ignorant men 3000 years ago is of no use in the 21st century.Love thy neighbor as thyself-the rest is just commentary!God will not condemn you for what you eat-BUT he will damn you if you burn, hate and act as barbaric and sick as the Haredi.

Nothing is more important to me in this world than Israel. I have fought 4 wars and brought up 4 children, fifth generation Israelis, to love this country and our people. They all served in combat units, even my only daughter served with a red beret on her head. I don't need to prove my love for Israel. I do not hate religious people, I do not have a problem with them doing their own thing although I am of the opinion that the Haredim are, to put it mildly, a quirk of nature and most definately their garb and behaviour has no affiliation with Judaism. My gripe with them is the fact that they expect to get State funded Torah studies but refuse to give in return. The State nurtures them from birth and throughout their life. They owe nothing to the State. This to me is unacceptable and for this I despise them. At least 3 times to my knowledge it is written in the Tanaach, "He who rises to kill you, pre empt and kill him". This is written, not as advice, but as a command from God. So what excuse do they have for not fulfilling this command. I will respect them when they respect both the State and me. It is not the fact that they are religious that bothers me, it is their behaviour and attitude. Sorry for prevailing upon your heart, I shall be careful next time.

I can agree , but why this opposition to this only one shop ? There are 70 other in Nethanya , There are in my town [ i don't know how many ] there are in most of Israel's towns . In your home you are free to do what you want , let those people who want it , eat pork . This stuff is not on my shopping list

Certainly not a friend of my , not even an ex one . My friends can read , and do it before reacting .
44. A supreme act of restoring Jewish Honor.
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (08.04.07)
There is no reason to sell pork in the Holy Land other to disrespect the lives of millions of Jews, and generations of Jews that rightfully were repulsed by this non-Jewish habit.
45. Hei ! people !
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.04.07)
where was is written that the suspect was a religious guy ? Don't point an accusing finger at religious people , certainly not when there is only a suspect , also suspect of other arsons

47. Pork is disgusting (to me)
E.S. ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.04.07)
In the conditions where it's produced today, pork is a very bad meat to human organism... Scientifically speaking, pork is fragile, and all the major diseases that affected the agro-alimentary chain of production first developped on pigs. Be aware that production of pork in industrial scales is one of the top threat to environnement. Porks are also very close genetically to human being (i.e. organs transplant made by surgeons). According to the Kabbalah, one's eating pork is almost practicing canibalism. You are eating a close gender to human. Beef is more tasty. But I don't care, Im a veggan! Now for this chareidi, he broke the law, he's a criminal, he should be punished, no doubt about it.

You don't suppose a pork loving secular heathen set the shop on fire do you ?
49. If you don't like pork...
Tobias ,   Germany   (08.04.07)
you have the right to refuse eating pork. you have the right to refuse buying pork. you have the right to refuse buying in a pork-selling shop (and ok, you are invited to refuse all this...) you have the right to boycott all non-kosher shops You DO NOT have the right to prevent other people from buying pork or from selling pork to people who want to buy it. Israel is a liberal democracy and NOT the haredi version of an Iran- or Saudi-like state, NOT a jewish Hamastan or Hisballastan (and that's good). Of course, nobody has the right to burn down a shop, even if the shop would be selling heroin or RPGs or Kalashnikov rifles (then it'd be the task of the police to stop it). Destroying a shop or a house etc. because of religious opinion, is a case of religious motivated terrorism.

charles ,   petach tikva   (08.04.07)
There is one suspect , wait before to conclude or tell something in one or another direction . Can't he / she be a secular arsonist and pork eater ? Or an anti religious who wants to outlaw pork in Israel [ LOL ! ] Or , or , or .......
51. E.S. Montreal , go to school !
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.04.07)
Pork is disgusting to you ? you are a vegetarian ? fine . But you can't read , and that's not fine . Where is it written that this suspect is charidi ?
52. #36 Hartley, About those ramen noodles......just kidding!!

Does God come into the picture folks? He says we can't eat the stuff, so nu? Remember the Torah?
55. Very Happy to See Some Balls Sof Sof
YS ,   Israel   (08.04.07)
Jews getting their balls back? This certainly is very happy news. I was beginning to think we were a bunch of eunich servants at the feet of the Erev Rav. Get the pigs out of Israel in all their forms - 2 legged and 4.
56. # 50 Charles
Sagi ,   Israel   (08.04.07)
I accept your accusation with a smile.
57. I have a very sincere question
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (08.04.07)
This is not meant disrespectfully, but why did god create pigs? Surely it wasn't just so Americans could have footballs, for purses and for shoe leather. I know, there are cockroaches, lice, fleas, ticks, bedbugs and assorted other pests to aggravate us, but when you kill one of those, there's not really much left for any useful purpose. It's a whole different thing with a pig, and it just seems a horrible waste of a lot of edibles just to get leather and bristles for paint brushes. I've known backbone-gnawing hunger in my life and was thankful for split pea soup that had more black bugs in it than peas. That soup went well with the bread with the little white creepy-crawleys in it, but you ate it, because that's all there was. I simply consider disrespecting food of whatever kind as a very serious affront to god. Eating cats or dogs is repulsive to me, but if it came down to starving, neither cat nor dog would stand much of a chance in the end. If, as some Jewish people contend, they would die before eating pork, can someone please explain that to me other than that it's in the Torah. Btw, anyone saying that has never, ever been really hungry. As long as you're alive you can ask for god's mercy and forgiveness for whatever transgression of which you think you're guilty. If one were, however, to have valued one's god-given liife so little as to waste it needlessly and due to a distate for pork, how much mercy could one expect? So, my question is an honest one.

So now you're actually comparing Israel to an Islamic country? You're saying that the owner should be HAPPY that "only" his shop was burnt down?

mark ,   ca   (08.04.07)
For your info,99.9% of draft dodgers are Israeli born. Many of so called Israel hating immigrants who eat pork, serve in IDF elite units.
60. Equating Arson with "terrorism".
EGW ,   vancouver canada   (08.04.07)
CHUTZPAH- doesn't adequately describe the ignorant, idiotic, cretinous, scandalous reaction of the Netanya officials who described this as "Jewish Terrorism". By the standards of ARAB terrorists, the REAL terrorists, you can count Jewish "Terrorists" on the fingers of ONE HAND and still have digits enough left over to grip a glass of Shabbat Kiddush wine. Why the hell didn't these so-called "officials" call it what it was....."ARSON". Every country in the world has many cases of ARSON, and they DON'T call it TERRORISM. Only in israel can there be such stupidity.......Terrorist seek to kill and maim innocent civilians. And a damned Israeli should KNOW this better than ANYONE!!! I am OUTRAGED, at this CHEAP garbage.
