2. sephardim are inferior????
ash ,   gush etzion   (08.06.07)
every yeshiva in the world has the mishneh torah, the shulchan aruch, the kuzari, etc. All written by sephardim. some hardei ashkenazim have this problem of looking back on shtetl life as the all-encompassing ideal of modern living, ie the black hat, yiddish, etc and they cant relate to sephardim who can trace their traditions back to the middle east where judaism belongs. what is most annoying is the fac t that there are sephardi haredim as there is no history or authenticity of this group in judaism and is modelled on an eastern european ghetto mentality.
3. THE ARTICLE IS NONSENCE

Yiannis Kareklas ,   Athens Greece   (08.06.07)
5. how unfortunate
zev ,   usa   (08.06.07)
its really sad to see that Ynet once again is trying to incite hate amongst jews. i know of quite a few marriages between sephardim and ashkenazim, there doing just fine. print articles about them, inspire others to follow.
6. Totally ridiculous!
Aviva ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.06.07)
I know plenty of Sephardim married to Ashkenazim (my parents, for instance), my husband is Sephardi. Litvak to Hasidic--that's a match you will never see.
7. I have read that Sephardim Jews are actual descendants of ..
Rivkah   (08.06.07)
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. while Ashkenazic Jews are mostly Khazars who converted to Judaism but do not have the blood line of Sephardic Jews. That causes a jealousy of the Sephardic Jews who are then mistreated by the Ashkenazic Jews.
8. Marriages between the two groups are good for the gene pool
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (08.06.07)
9. Tell me do these people even exist
Mordechai   (08.06.07)
Amazing how no one in the Orthodox community knows of these racists. Only secular reporters from Ynet can suddenly go into the insular world of the charedi community and easily find people committed to the haredi world who want to talk to them. Please tell us how you get your sources. Assuming they aren't all made up in your head.
10. what nonsense!!!!!
avi ,   ny   (08.06.07)
I am married to a sephardic women. And guess what we are the same race and the same ethnic group!. Where does the writer come off talking about racial segregation? This is not South Africa of the deep south. Try not to imitate American writers and consult a dictionary and look up the word "race" next time you write such ignorant drivel,
11. sefardi chicks rock dude!
Josh   (08.06.07)
once you taste chocolate youll never want vanilla again dude, theyre so much more feisty too whats up with your attitude?
12. Sephardic
PG ,   USA   (08.06.07)
Just learned that Spanish husband is sephardic..........wow, we think it is wonderful.........we are "Christians"...............learned of heritage............WOW, Wonderful. We agree with you "Dacon".......all of you are Torah......we are returning to TORAH
13. Not racism,misguided
abe ,   nyc   (08.06.07)
I am a modern orthodox ashkenaz married to a spicy modern haredi(strict with halachah, very fearful of hashem but goes to movies with me)sephardic girl. Are there cultural differences we occassionaly argue about?Of course! Does this make our marriage less successful? Of course not! But the haredi ashekenaz world believes that the more similar you are the better chance of a successful marriage hence the recommendation to marry within ones culture.I of course see the logic in this from their point of view but its a flawed logic, for a sucessful marriage rests on communication ,love, honesty and seeing life with joy no matter what it throws at you.I just look at my three beautiful children and see success!
14. Its why Shas came into being
S Judah ,   London   (08.06.07)
These guys wouldn't let the Top Sephardi rabbis sit on their council's and its Rav Ovadia has spent a life time pricking them.
15. Rivkah's nonsense about Khazars
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.06.07)
"Rivkah" (#7) spouts the same nonsense about Khazars we hear froom Palestinians. It's part and parcel of their attempt to delegitimize the Jewish connec tion to the Jewish homeland. In point of fact, the Khazars - a Turkic people - disappeared from history a thousand years ago, and have little or no connection to today's Ashkenazim. Geneticists have demonstrated the "priestly" (Cohen) gene in both Sephardic and Ashkenazic populations. They've clearly demonstrated the "familiarity" of both populations, and - ironically - that Ashkenazim are genetically closer to Palestinians than they are to the Polish. So clearly the Jews are not a "foreign import" to Israel.
16. More ynet hate filled incitement
abu Kate ,   abu PT   (08.06.07)
May all ynet authors of this incitement smell like HILBEH for the rest of their snotty lives, and not be able to remove it ha ha. AND stay in ramat aviv jimmel please That's an order. They may send hesder soldiers to chuck you out...
17. laughable
Ari   (08.06.07)
"Ashkenazim, for example, tend to be stricter, while Sephardim are more lenient." Only someone who doesn't have the first clue about Judaism (and has been fed such a line by some narrow-minded individual with an agenda) would say such a laughable thing, which every Jew who knows anything about Jewish Law knows to be totally baseless and untrue...
18. Exile Mentality
David   (08.06.07)
It seems to me that Sephardim, Ashkenazim, and Mizrachim are exile terms that should be shed (like Yiddish and Ladino) once a Jew lives in Israel. Yehudim are Yehudim. And as far as Ashkenazi supperiority is concerned, what about the Mishne Torah, Shulchan Aruch, and the Arizal? All Sephardic (the Arizal was half Sephardic, half Ashkenazi).
19. Yannis , give me both of them
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.06.07)
Gefillte fish , sweet or spicy , to begin with [ with a fine dry white wine ] and then a marvellous couscous , lamb , accompagnied with a fine merlo or Pinot noir . Then we won't talk anymore about Sephardi or Ashkenazim .
20. 19 Sounds delicious Charles
S Judah ,   London   (08.06.07)
Would keep the Sephardi me and the Ashkanazi Mrs, both very happy.
21. Jews are Jews!
Jon ,   USA   (08.06.07)
If the misnagidish haredim won't take sephardi girls, all the more for the rest of us :-)
22. Discrimination
Jewish Grandma ,   Jerusalem   (08.06.07)
What in the world is this article talking about? I am a convert,1point agains me, A direct descendant from marranos in spain, that makes me Sefardi, 2 points agains me, I married a litvish man, mixed marriage,3points agains me. and guess what? I taught in a prestigious haredi school, one of my children is married to a boy from a well known moroccan family, the other to a boy from a hungarian chasidishe family, and a third to a modern orthodox girl from the shtachim, I have experienced discrimination for sure, many times, but at the end I encountered people of good faith in every sector of the Jewish world, maybe it is an attitude thing, you get what you give.
23. S Judah

29. Our JEWISH (HIS claim, not mine) Ashkenazi P.M.

30. Superior race
abdul karim ,   Tehran, Persia   (08.07.07)
Yea, the Haredim are really crazy, but it's nto really to do with race, its abotu their own shtius. Hence a Lithuanian would not likely marry a chasid or Chabad, even if they are from the same e. european town, becasue they have difft customs, beleifs etc. The racism steps in after that, as they try to justify their differences
