Looking back at history and if the facts are right that Golda refused the german offer ,then this chapter should be open by an investing committee to bring all the light about it. I cannot also understand the brits position towards the jews back then when they could save them from german hands. It must have been most probably another deal with the germans. I don't really see what any of this quite has to do with Golda's kitchen. Yes she did do the "evil" wheeling and dealing you all speak of. However, i think this article is more of pure historical significance the way Americans learn about President Jackson and his "kitchen cabinet." Golda Meir was a superb leader who cared more about the State of Israel and the Jewish people than her own legacy. She would never have agreed to anything like the Oslo Accords and never gave in to pressure from the international community for Israeli concessions. It's true, Golda was initially appointed PM in March 1969 after Levi Eshkol's death to avoid a split in the Mapai party, but she was elected in her own right by a landslide later that year. And before she became PM she was a dedicated foreign minister, labor minister, minister to Moscow, and pre-statehood Yishuv leader. Golda resigned after the Yom Kippur War even though she led her party to victory in December 1973, immediately following the war! (Unlike Olmert, who even one year after the war with Hizbullah refuses to call for new elections). Golda had more courage, vision, leadership ability, and commitment to Zionism and the Jewish people than Ehud Olmert has in his pinky finger. If only Israel had a leader like Golda today!
