34. in praise of Mr Litani
English guy ,   London   (08.11.07)
My previous note praising Mr Litani for his journalistic work was not published. All the atrocious remarks written by others have been posted. In any case, well said Mr Litani. Please take no notice of the screaming ignorant masses who post professionally here.
35. #34 - Where's your evidence, So-Called-English Guy
Mike-really English   (08.11.07)
Atrocious, screaming masses.... What do you do for a living? Write horror stories? The "professional" writers, the ones who bother to read and learn the historical background of Hevron, have given you some free education So-Called English Guy. Use it. Better still, go to a second-hand bookstore (not the one near your mosque) but a regular one, and buy a good history book and learn that Hebron (how odd, it sounds so much like Hebrew) is a Hebrew city, always was, always will be.
36. The bottom line for Mr. Litani--Part 1
David L. ,   Toronto Canada   (08.12.07)
110 years ago you would have been one of those European Jews arguing against Theodor Herzl and the need to found Zionism! Mr. Herzl was the typical assimilated Jew for his times during the fading years of 19th century Europe. Life was comfortable, Jews felt they could be themselves, practice their religion and be nationalistic towards the country of their birth. But then all that changed during the notorious "Dreyfus Affair"; where Alfred Dreyfus a French solider was accused of selling military secrets to Germany. The ultimate irony is that Dreyfus' pardon in 1906 came two years too late after Theodor Herzl died in 1904. But European Jews such a Herzl were galvanized to realize nothing had changed since the Middle Ages; Jews were to be blamed in grand conspiracies! Herzl was so outraged at the trumped up charges of treason against Dreyfus that he realized the Jews needed their own homeland, thus modern day Zionism was born! If Mr. Litani were alive in those times, no doubt he'd be one of those well off assimilated European Jews who would be vocally against Herzl and his fledgling idea of Zionism! Mr. Litani would have believed the French lies that Dreyfus was a traitor and he would have said that Dreyfus deserves what he gets. Mr. Litani would have told Mr. Herzl that he was a young man reacting impetuously to a situation that would take care of itself. Mr. Litani would try to reassure Mr. Herzl that everything's OK, the French would sentenced Dreyfus, European outrage against Jews would settle down in time so there's no need to go all half-cocked and create a country just for the Jews. However time would prove Mr. Litani wrong because the "Dreyfus Affair" of late 19th century Europe foreshadowed the more sinister anti-Semitic incidents that would lead to the final solution for the Jews in the mid 20th century! But Mr. Litani living back in the late 19th century would have been a closed off minded Jew who based his decisions on just snapshot of where the Jews were of that moment. Opposed to great thinkers of forethought like Mr. Herzl who saw the writing on the wall and decided to put a plan in action for the future. And when the first European Zionists began creating collective farms known as a kibbutz, no doubt Mr. Litani would be protesting the settler movement! Mr. Litani would no doubt try crashing annual Zionist Congress meetings and he'd be railing against displacing Arabs!
37. The bottom line for Mr. Litani--Part 2
David L. ,   Toronto Canada   (08.13.07)
Well Mr. Litani you owe your life, the life of your family and your home in Israel to Theodor Herzl, Zionism and the early Jewish settlement movement! Without the dedication of the Jews from the past who you would have undoubtedly opposed had you lived in that era, you and your family would not be living in the State of Israel!! The same goes for the Jewish settlers of today, they are just trying to reclaim the right to live in Hebron and you are trying to defeat that movement. Just think about the future for a moment and just consider the ramifications of what would happen if you prevail. There will be no more future Jewish heritage in Hebron--is that what you want? Because that's what will happen if you succeed in torpedoing the Jewish Hebron settler movement!! The same goes for Judea and Samaria, if you want to kick out the Jewish settlers from this land, it's the equivalent to stopping Theodor Herzl back in late 19th century Europe! If all Jewish settlers are kicked out of Judea and Samaria then you might as well consider stretching your foreskin over your penis to reverse your circumcision! Because you've been circumcised as sign of keeping the covenant between G-D and Abraham which was past on to Isaac and Jacob. The covenant is to live by G-D's laws in the Promised Land! Mr. Litani, unlike Alfred Dreyfus who was framed for being a traitor, you truly are a traitor! If you want to stop allowing Jews to live in the land that was promised to the Jewish people by G-D, it's the equivalent of telling Jews not to follow certain laws that are written in the Torah! The best thing for you to do is to stop telling other Jews what they can and cannot do and where they can or cannot live. It's best for all that you stretch the foreskin to cover the head of your penis, leave Israel, not obey the Torah and live your life as you wish. This way everyone's happy--it's a win-win solution for all!!!!!
