31. re: Donna s, Netanya, #7
John   (08.12.07)
Are you still repeating the canard about acid being poured on soldiers in Gush Katif? Newsflash: there was no acid. Look it up. Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva investigated and concluded there was no acid at all. But I guess the story served its propaganda purposes.
32. #15:Some people go to heaven and some go to hell after death
Rivkah   (08.12.07)
Do you really think Abraham is near Goliath in death? Or Haman? God is omnipresent, that is true. But his favor and his disfavor were both experienced by King David. David did not like being separated from God's favor. You write as if your God is different from my God. That is your opinion. I believe the tree of faith has Jewish roots and a grafted on Gentile branch which can include Jews, too. But why sacrificeyourself to become part of a grafted on branch when you are the root of the tree already? Some Jews like Saul of Tarsus were called to teach the Gentiles. The Jews hate him for doing what he believed the Lord instructed him to do. It was the sinning ancient Israel and Judah that brought judgments on them, sadly. But God has not forgotten the people he sent into exile and is calling them back to the new Israel he enabled them to have. You can be separated from God's favor, if not from God. Imagine being eternally separated from God's favor. The Peshita Aramaic text describes what that separation will be like: great thirst, intense heat, memory, no hope, darkness, pain, gnashing of teeth, etc. You think there is no place in God's favor for the grafted on branch and the grafted on branch thinks the same of the root, sadly. I do not make much of a difference believing both have a valid covenant with God, as you point out.

There is a word in Yiddisch to describe the people who discredit General Stern. EECHS !!!

M. Antoinette never recited those "famous" words attributed to her. But I don't have to worry about discussing any other misquotes with you...since if G-d forbid rockets do fall on Ra'anana or North Tel Aviv...you'll be safe in Montreal.
36. Rivkah #32: are you saying all Jews will suffer this fate?
Steve ,   US   (08.12.07)
My Jewish mother and father, only because they did not accept Jesus are now suffering great thirst, intense heat, no memory, no hope, darkness, pain, gnashing of teeth, etc.? This is your God's fate for all Jews who do not accept your Jesus? Isn't your God a monster?
37. The IDF should indeed be kept out of the political debate!
Maj. Reuven Bar-On ,   Israel   (08.12.07)
The IDF spokesman said that "the IDF and those who serve it should be kept out of the political debate." This is indeed correct! However, the IDF is being used in the political debate and exploited by the criminally corrupt politicians in power. This misuse of the IDF (which SHOULD be defending the citizens of Israel) is exploited for clear anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic purposes. IDF soldiers and commanders should DISOBEY these immoral orders. Rise up and disobey anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic orders. Otherwise, you will eventually stand trial for crimes against the Jewish People!
38. IF YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE USED POLITICALLY, YOU WILL BE A
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.12.07)
POLITICAL TARGET. Simple formula. The TZHAL must not allow itself to be used for very dangerous political decisions. The intelligence department said they warned the leadership and they didn't listen. So, if the Generals refuse to obey and all offer to resign, the government will be forced to change its policies, with the people rather having pride in its "professional" army.
39. The vocabulary must change
Smooth Stone   (08.12.07)
It is disconcerting to read comments from some Jews here who deny that Jews are indigenous to Judea, and that Jews have no right to live in Hebron, the oldest Jewish city in history. Instead, I am reading comments that help to enable the redefinition of Israeli Jews as colonizers and foreign settlers with no legitimate right to the land. Whether or not one calls them settlers, the Israelis living in the West Bank and Hebron do not pose either a moral or a pragmatic problem. Their communities are natural outcomes of Israel’s control for almost forty years of areas that are integral to its current defensibility and/or historical heritage.   And since the word "settler" is loaded with negative connotations of “intruder,” it would be best to cease applying it to Israelis who live legitimately in parts of the Land of Israel that are part of the state of Israel, and whose ultimate disposition remains open. Does it really make sense to call an Israeli who moves from a hillside in Galilee to an apartment block in Ariel a “settler”? Please drop the immoral paradigm insinuating their that they must be forced from their homes. Would that you would pay more attention to the illegal houses built by Arab squatters in Hebron who proudly display in a sign that they live on land stolen from Jews. 40. #32---Rivkah
ER ,   Canada   (08.12.07)
Rivkah, when will you people learn that quoting your NT, whether it be the now trendy Aramaic or stoic KJ version, has no greater authority than say the Tibetan Book of the Dead. In the case of the NT, there are over 3000 variant codices, many of which substantially change the meaning of the text. In order for you to quote your NT, you must, in fact, pass your own human judgment as to which codex and which translation thereof you wish to believe. It boils down to people choosing the versions that best suit their own pet theology. As for me, I’d rather believe the original handed down intact from Sinai.
41. If IDF not politicing, no evictions in Hebron
Steve ,   USA   (08.12.07)
B"H The IDF has been set by the political escelon to alter the results of the Likud internal election. Its timing of the Hebron evictions directly coincides with the Likud's primaries, set one week before with further notices issued to alter the election results. Something has to be done about this use of the IDF as as the Israel Election Force instead of the Israel Defense Force. Olmert like the reuslt of his election from such tactics, but something seems wrong to me about such politically timed moves. He may say that the IDF should be kept out of political debate, but the uppper escelons are using it in that manner, and the underlings have some feedback that is not very positive. That feedback, since it actually has no effect on those in charge of the IDF is being levelled at Major-General Stern as the available access point for it. Those issuing the feedback of "traitor" feel betrayed and are externalizing their emotions that have not been resolved concerning the previous action. It is not to say who is right or wrong, but rather to look at the dynamic of what is occuring which carries its own momentum.
42. #8: Conflict between torah and zionism revealed
abdullah ,   ashkenaz   (08.12.07)
If a torah observant person chooses to or is pressed into military service, he has to obey orders for a number of reasons: 1) As #8 says they pay his salary and it would be theft not to do what one is paid for, no matter how unpleasant. 2) He entered a binding agreement to obey orders assigned to him. 3) If he disregards 1 and 2, he gives his community a bad name and sets them up for harsh treatment from the rest of society. The Druze are a perfect example of people who *hate* to be at war with israel's neighours but do their duty when the state demands it. One can protest orders and try to get exemtpitons but when the time comes to fulfill the order, then it must be done. Otherwise, don't join the army or do civilian national service.
43. Rivkah---Proof Your god is Different From Mine
ER ,   Canada   (08.12.07)
If your god is the same as mine, he forgot what he wrote in the Torah! Your god forgot where Avraham is buried and from whom he bought his burial cave. Your god forgot how many people went down to Egypt with Jacob! Your god forgot the Holy Language with which he created the Universe and wrote in Greek. Your god has his adherents desecrate one of the Ten Commandments, which is punishable by death! Need I go on? More likely, yours is not the same G_d.
44. to ER
EM ,   Ra'anana   (08.12.07)
So...you are a Karaite? Because if you aren't... you sure aren't following the "original" from Sinai...which by the way borrowed a few ideas from the Sumerians (read the epic "Gilgamesh"). Our religion evolved and branched off...while in othger parts of the world other religions developed. You shouldn't have to degrade another's faith in order to feel secure in yours.
45. #40 Ah, but if you choose to believe in that book(and it's a
Samuel ,   Israel   (08.12.07)
good book), then you will find the foretelling to Jesus's coming. Funny how Jesus rebuked the religious leaders of his time for NOT knowing of his coming. Seems as if the same stiff-necked bunch are alive and well in the earth today. In fact, had the religious Jews of today studied Torah like they shouldv'e, they couldv'e found out the exact date and day when Israel would become a nation. It's all in there, right along with the scriptures announcing the coming of Jesus.
46. #36 Steve, US, My opinion is that if your Jewish Mother and
Rivkah   (08.12.07)
Father worshipped Adonai or Hashem, and believed the Messiah is coming to deliver Israel, they are not suffering after death; but rather, they are comforted with Abraham. Jesus is not God the Father. He has the DNA of God the Father, but is a separate person. He is the mediator between God the Father and humans. Jews call this mediator Adonai (Husband) or Hashem. The Jews have a valid covenant that predates the covenant the Gentiles have. Most Christians do not know Adonai/Hashem worship is equivalent to Jesus Christ worship because they do not study the Bible and they believe preachers who do not know the truth. There is only one way to heaven, they say. But Adonai IS the great I AM. Jesus Christ said he is I AM THAT I AM. The eyes of Jews (and only Jews) were blinded to that, but that does not send them to hell as it sends gentiles to hell who do not believe on Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came as a servant to graft on the Gentiles to the tree of faith with Jewish roots. The ax was laid to the root of the tree, but if the root (Jews) had been cut off the branch could not survive. Few believe as I do, but I have studied the Bible for many decades, being old. If the Jews who worship Adonai/hashem are in hell, then Abraham and Moses are in hell. But Jesus Christ made it clear Abraham and Moses are in heaven. If your Mother and Father loved Adonai and were Jews in their hearts as well as Jews in their bloodline, they are in heaven, Steve. The preachers who teach falsely will be the first to be judged by God when judgments start. 12 million Christians in Germany/World War II Europe died in death camps while only six million Jews were killed there. There is a homeland for the Jews because of that, but not for the Christians. So the promises of God to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are still a valid covenant. If I tell you wrongly what I believe the Bible says, I can lose my reward in heaven. That is how strongly I believe what I am telling you is true. I am putting my mansion in heaven and my favor with the Lord on the line to tell you what preachers should be telling Christians and Jews. Jesus Christ died for the sins of all who love him/Adonai/Hashem since he was the only person who could keep the Ten Commanments totally and completely. It was his FAMILY who executed him, with his consent because that was the Jewish custom. The Christians then cursed his family and persecuted them. Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ starved to death before being taken up to heaven where she is honored. She was not honored in her lifetime on earth by Jews or Christians, except for a few close friends.

48. #44 EM. No, I'm not a Karaite!
ER ,   Canada   (08.13.07)
I believe in all the Torah, both written and oral. But I don’t go on Xian websites and preach these beliefs to their readers. Where I come from, that is considered rude.
49. NOW, after answering a lot of tb's I want to tell Israel...
Rivkah   (08.12.07)
that now is not the time to attack the IDF, to evade the draft or to call Generals names. There are 140,000Syrian troops gathered near the Golan heights according to J.R.Church's newletter. There are about 140,000Turkish troops on the border of Iraq. Isaiah ch 17 war with Syria is about to begin. Ezekiel ch 38 war with Russia and many moslem nations is about to start. Daniel ch 8 war with Iran is about to start, too. With all that on Israel's plate and the miracles that will deliver Israel, now is not the time to attack the IDF or evade service.
50. Funny how one different response submitted
Steve ,   USA   (08.13.07)
B"H I find interesting that I do not read my original response. But there are a couple of other responses from a different Steve saying all sorts of things that I could not even dream up. That is part of the spice of writing for YNET. Sometimes there is another Steve out there, and my comment is left out.

The infinite almighty puts his word above his name and will not seperate his word from his name. And yes his presence is everywhere and you cannot be seperated from his anger in hades, which sets it aflame everyday. You can see a little heaven and hades on earth everyday hmm. WHY? and the next life?
52. General Stern
Joe Kennedy ,   Dublin ,Ireland   (08.13.07)
The IDF spokesman states that the military should be kept out of the political debate. The spokeman should lisren to his own advice and should have kept the IDF away from the politically motivated expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif last summer
53. #50 Steve - I like your TBs
a fan   (08.13.07)
Maybe you could identify your city. Or add an initial to your name. I don't always agree with you but I like the fact that you put a lot of thought into your responses.
54. General Stern, thank you
JG   (08.13.07)
Thank you for serving our country. Thank you for doing difficult tasks that you may or may not agree. If you and other soldiers picked and choosed when to obey an order given by a democratically elected government, we'd have total anarchy and would cease to exist.
