1. Who's he kidding? We all saw him on TV.
Lenny ,   Israel   (08.15.07)
2. these types of tehilim have a name
Jim C.   (08.15.07)
in English they are known as "imprecatory psalms" and their use is often controversial - I remember in the 70's wondering how one could sing about bashing in Babylonians' infants heads - well, now that Islam has again shown its totalitarian evil face, it's easier to understand that enemies must be crushed, like a snake, before they crush us.
3. I refer people to King David and th Psalms, too, when they
Rivkah   (08.15.07)
ask why I ask for the deaths of my enemies: that is what David did and the prophets of that era did not rebuke him for that.
4. Chutzpah
EM ,   Ra'anana   (08.15.07)
Is there no end to the "chutzpah" of this man? He won't apologize for his evil invocation - so now he is trying to worm his way out of the consequences by claiming he was quoting from the Bible.
5. #1 - I know - its laughable.....now he expects
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.15.07)
sympathy for what he's been through.
6. #3... disgusting... "I ask for the deaths of my enemies"
Daniel van Dalen ,   Jerusalem   (08.15.07)
#3 wrote: "I ask for the deaths of my enemies" And this calls itself RIVKAH? A Hebrew name? I am disgusted. Asking for the DEATH of your enemies is the very worst thing a person - a Jew - can possibly do. To sink to such a level is worse than worshipping idolatry, worse than illicit relations, worse than Zionism, worse than murder.
7. #2, Hey Jimbo, here we're talking about cursing..
Lenny ,   Israel   (08.15.07)
our fellow good citizens, IDF officers doing their duty. The good professor has a right to his opinions, but no right to this verbal violence, and your interpretation of the bible is also not in place.
8. #3 Rivkah
EM ,   Ra'anana   (08.15.07)
Do you also advise men who lust after other men's wives to arrange the deaths of their husbands?
9. I would like to remind
Sagi ,   Israel   (08.15.07)
this vile individual called a professor that the Imam, Khadi and Ayatolla who frequent the mosques on a Friday and call for the death of Jews are simply, "QUOTING FROM SCRIPTURES".
10. Why is he backpeddling now? He had more credibility when he
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv   (08.15.07)
stood up for what he did. Do we have free speech for not? This place is like a banana republic sometimes
11. sometimes the right 2 free speech has consequences, b a man
apologize 4 real ,   or take punishment   (08.15.07)
12. Rachel free speech is a right carrying a responsibility!
misuse of which ,   brings punishment!   (08.15.07)
13. to EM
freejay ,   Israel   (08.15.07)
You are a hypocrit.................i didnt see you say anything to Tatula in another similar article, that said someone should shoot this professor in the head. Also, if you dont wish the enemy dead, would you rather just let them kill you first? The hypocrasy of the left is abundant and suicidal.
14. what a cynical use of the Torah
Bruno ,   Haifa   (08.15.07)
so-called Professor Weiss, from so-called Bar Ilan University, should be shunned as much for his excuses and apologies as for his initial spewing out of venom which started the whole thing the man is not fit to teach or find a platform in any academic institution
15. Weiss is correct, but now what?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.15.07)
He was reciting from Psalms (you can check the text easily enough) and therefore I can't see how he can be prosecuted for it. Unless Israel wants to outlaw Psalms. Too bad the press here is so stupidly ignorant of Jewish texts......
16. Was
Yoni ,   Israel   (08.15.07)
this so called teacher one of Yigal Amir's professors perhaps ?
17. Freejay
EM ,   Ra'anana   (08.15.07)
I don't get involved in infatile arguments
18. Jewish Law
Aharon ,   Ramat Aviv   (08.15.07)
What Weiss has done follows in a long tradition of calling for the death of those who give away Jewish land to Goyim. The Rambam, Rav Yosef Cairo, the Alter Rebbe, and the Chazon Ish not only called for the death of Jews who give Jewish land to Goyim but said it is a mitzvah to kill any such Jew that is a requirment upon all Jews who are able. You may not like it but that is Jewish law.
19. Logically, a true prophet does not curse anyone
abdullah ,   ashkenaz   (08.15.07)
A prophet relays what G-d has already decreed, be it positive or negative, whether directed at specific individuals or specific groups, or to general classes of people (righteous, wicked, etc). The troah and the prophets (pun intended) teach this clearly. Dawid was a prophet and his words need to be seen in that context. Any torah observant person (other than a prophet) who targets specific individuals and groups, with words wishing them ill, should be knowledgeable enough in torah to be sure that he is not guilty of sorcery. Sorcery is forbidden to jews by torah law.
20. The media is evil, hypocritical and self serving.
World   (08.15.07)
21. Why is our Talula keeping so quiet?
Eitan ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.15.07)
22. Free speech ?
Df ,   Israel   (08.15.07)
Free speech is not open ended. You cannot yell fire in a movie theater. It does not include incitement to murder. What "professor" Weiss is trying now to practice is a new academic subject - spinology. He cursed the officer period - whether he used scripture as his basis or just pulled it out of his head. An enemy ? Interesting. These are the same officers and men who put their lives on the line to protect the types of people that Weiss represents from a repeat of the massacres that happened in the same Hebron in the 1920s and 1930. Titbayesh b'sinah shelcha

Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (08.15.07)
You wrote: "Asking for the DEATH of your enemies is the very worst thing a person - a Jew - can possibly do. To sink to such a level is worse than worshipping idolatry, worse than illicit relations, worse than Zionism, worse than murder." First of all, you equate Zionism with murder??? What kind of a sick person are you?? Of course we should ask for the death of our enemies!! That is what war is!! What are you doing in Jerusalem anyway?? You are poisoning the air! Get out!! Go back to your home!!
25. #6 Daniel. The Bible saysDavidwas a manafter GOD's own heart
(08.15.07)
David killed tens of thousands of enemies in battle and even cut off their foreskins and put them into a container to parade around Jerusalem, dancing naked in the victory march. You do not like that King David, but the Bible says he was a man after GOD's own heart. Exodus says the LORD IS A MAN OF WAR. Psalms says the Lord is angry at the ungodly every day. Do you think the righteous killing by God, of shortening a lifespan is evil if it is requested by someone who has been harmed by that person to the point of near death? On YNET, I have been called a whore, crazy, stupid and now disgusting...for telling people what is in the Bible. There is a sin called a sin unto death. When a person does that, it does not matter if the death of the evil one is asked for or not...it happens. Often the person dies within a year. When a Roman Catholic priest named John Moore poisoned me in April of 2006 and I nearly died, I asked for his death from the Lord when the police would not even investigate. Eight months later, he died. What he did was a sin unto death.
26. Jews right to learn
chaim ,   miami usa   (08.15.07)
To # 6 who objects to verbally wishing death to his enemies as being anti Jewish or against the Jewish religion, that is beyond stupidity as not only do we wish death upon our enemies but actively pursue and kill them. As for the Israelis who have a problem with curses ascribed to Jewish Scriptures, must never have learned the Torah, it is replete with cursing the sinners specifically, Leviticus (3rd book of the 5 books compromising the 5 books of Moses known to Jews as) the Torah, chapter 26 verse 14 through 42 it clearly recites curses against the entire Jewish nation for rejecting G-d’s commandments. And again the Torah in Deuteronomy chapter 28 verses 15 through 69 recites terrible curses this time against any Individual that forsakes G-ds commandments. What I am unable to comprehend is the total silence from any establishment when a irreligious leftist traitor curses the Chief of Staff of the IDF also an educator in the Israeli higher educational system specifically a close relative of the PM, and a great hue and cry of foul is proclaimed against an educator for speaking his pain of the establishments failed policy which caused many brave young Israelis to lose their homes, families, jobs, and yes even their lives. This entire episode borders on the ridicules, soon any person that voices or votes against the government will be prosecuted under some perverse law established by a corrupt system
27. Charge Prof. Hillel Weiss with attempted murder
Barry Berger ,   Tivon, Israel   (08.15.07)
Prof. Hillel Weiss should be formally charged with "attempted murder". Weiss is a "believing Jew" and as such he is invoking actual force (God) to carry out the curse against IDF Hebron Brigade commander Colonel Yehuda Fox. In "apologizing" is he admitting the lack of power in the curse from Psalms 109? Assuming not, he should thus be held responsible for his attempted murder and tried accordingly in an appropriate court of law.
28. #24 Chaya...WELL SAID. THANK YOU.
Rivkah   (08.15.07)
29. The nutty Professor and #21
Talula ,   Israel   (08.15.07)
I'm not keeping quiet. Ynet decided that my talkback from this morning was not consistent with their terms of use. However, there was no slander, racist slur or inappropriate language. On the subject: Quite frankly, I can't see the difference between the bubonic plague and the likes of Professor Weiss, Rivkah (#3) and Ilan (#15). They are all cowards who hide behind a load of outdated claptrap that they call ancient scripts and psalms. These hold absolutely no credence in the modern world. Professor Weiss (the leader of the gang) was caught on film wishing death to a young soldier. He thought very carefully before spewing out his hateful vicious apothegm. Words cannot describe my disgust for this lowlife. But then again, he teaches at Bar Ilan so really, it's to be expected.
30. To #22
Israeli ,   Israeli   (08.15.07)
Israeli's seem to have a very primitive view of democracy. Police can beat people up, not wear their tags, soldiers can be used for police duties and politicians can be corrupt, but if you swear at someone...you're inciting murder?? Of course, it only applies to people with Kippahs on their heads. After all, if you wear a kippah you're not a full Israeli, undeserving of human rights, unlike the great tel-aviv artists who draft-dodge, or the arabs who don't pay taxes and openly undermine the State, right?
