The Palestinians have only been around since 1948 and are all immigrants. Arabs have only been around for barely 1500 years. The Israelis have been here for 6000 years. Get out of our lands and stop eating our felafel
33. number 32
Dawid ,   Montreal   (08.18.07)
That is an outrageous claim, 6000 years 'ALek! by the way, what kind of middle eastern name is "james" anyway? face it, you are a recent white european immigrant who is talking sh*t about something he knows nothing about. all you can do is hate - the truth is arab food is incomparably better than virtually any ashkenazi dish, and even the mizrahim don't cook as well any more being in israel where they are encouraged to forget their traditions and become "westernized". L'Aza!
34. #26 No one is eating your Falfel
Lina ,   USA   (08.18.07)
If we did, we would feel awful. Just look at what happened to Farfur. But seriously, as a pre-condition for peace in the ME, we must first recognize who invented falafel.
35. It's what you do with it that matters
Yoav Naor ,   Haifa Israel   (08.18.07)
The origins of the felafal don't really matter,it's what you do with it that does. Fish and chips are thought to originate from Jews of France, and the Brits hijacked it (bloody Brits hijack everything).

Yossi ,   USA   (08.18.07)
So Arabs discovered Africa when it was already populated for millenia and discovered India when it has a culture far older then your own? Dang, you know how to make someone laugh!!
37. Arab felafel is AWEFUL except for maybe Lebanese
David ,   Boston, USA   (08.18.07)
All the falafel I have eaten has been Lebanese, Israeli, Syrian, so called Palestinian, Egyptian, Saudi and in MANY countries. The Arab falafel is aweful, with the exception of some of the Lebanese. Granted, this is generalization. I am sure there are good individual falafel everywhere. I was actually surprised at how bad the Egyptian and Saudi falafel was.
38. The comments here's gotta be the silliest!
Ehud ,   Israel   (08.18.07)
Bickering over who invented a certain food! Falafel is Arabic. Good. Why would anyone have a problem with it? And why would anyone want to argue so ardently that they invented it? It's just food! If you must, at least pick something significant to quarrel over. And complaining about "stealing our food"... I'm pretty sure that place in Amsterdam does not get its chickpeas by stealing it from anyone. And Khalid/17: you said "Give me a break, and tell me what those marketing purposes were." then a bit afterwards "The real reason for the removal of those Israeliidentifications is that they are simply bad for business". You even put it together yourself. See the relation there? Marketing - Business.
39. ONCE FALAFAL IS CONQUERED BY ISLAM IT CAN'T BE RECLAIMED
david ,   usa   (08.19.07)
40. origin of falafel and maoz
Levi ,   Leiden, Holland   (04.20.10)
Falafel is Egyptian in origin, not Arab. It predated the Arab invasion by centuries. The word itself is derived from Coptic, not Arabic. However, much like the Israeli schnitzel, which differs significantly from it Austrian progenitor in both thickness and the type of meat used, so too with falafel. As for Maoz, I have eaten there twice and will never again. It is hardly surprising that they have not even attempted to open branches in Israel. Their product is below average in taste and quality. The only reason they are successful in Europe is because Europeans have not had the experience of freshly made hot falafel, especially correctly spiced. As for the Arab whiners responding here, quit shnoring what is Jewish. We whined about our misfortune long before Arabs started blaming their woes on everyone but themselves. The very fact that many Arabs are extremely successful outside of the Arab world such as the richest man in the world - an Arab Mexican, indicates that the problem rests in the culture of self pity.
41. look how you sell your proud Egyptian heritage
Levi ,   Leiden, Holland   (04.20.10)
Falafel is Egyptian. Egyptian, Egyptian, Egyptian. Take pride in the fact that Israelis living in Holland chose to promote Egyptian food worldwide. Israelis think Arab food is good. That is why they have adopted so much of it into the Israeli kitchen. Arab music is also quite popular in Israel. Imitation is the best form of flattery. Unfortunately for the Arabs, wars are not won with good music and tasty food. Although when you're finally ready to make nice, you can at least know for sure that the food served at the sulha will be to your liking as will the music playing in the background.
