1. What a fool to believe Abass
freejay ,   Israel   (08.16.07)
Olmert denies Abass's past history and future aims, he wants to keep patying the rabid dog and get bitten again.......Abass was second in command to Arafat (taught him to lie well), is a shoah denier and only wants israels dectruction. Abass has not changed the Palasinian charter and has done nothing to disarm the militants, infact Olmert is re arming them with newer weapons and vests while the home front is in a dismal state. Olmert wants to give everything for nothing in return This monster must be forced out! WE MUST ALL DEMMAND ELECTIONS NOW!!!!!! before he does more damage!
2. Abbas is a rejectionist like Arafat. Here is the proof.
Ken Jurist   (08.16.07)
Even after the Camp David Summit and after Taba, the Palestinians insist they have no regrets about rejecting the Clinton offer. One of the key Palestinian negotiators, Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), made this clear in an interview published in the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam for July 28, 2001: [Abu Mazen:] We made clear to the American and Israeli sides several times that the Palestinian side is unable to make concessions on anything. [Question:] Now, a year following Camp David, do you feel a sense of regret for not accepting the proposal which was presented to you? [Abu Mazen:] Not at all. I don't feel any sense of regret. What we did was the right thing to do. The Israelis and the Americans deluded themselves and others that in that way, and based that information which they gathered from here and there, they could coerce us [into doing] something and to come out of this summit victorious.
3. Olmert is crazy
David Stoler   (08.16.07)
He doesn't know the real Abu Mazen. Olmert is trying to give away the Golan and any other piece of land he can give away. Hopefully this Nevile Chamberlain will lose big in the next election. Read this article to see the real Abu Mazen. http://memri.org/bin/articles.cgi?Page=archives&Area=sd&ID=SP24901
4. Will the Haredi Fight?
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CA USA   (08.16.07)
To FreeJay, what are the alternatives? Lets explore them. A hostile US, UN, EU, Arab League and most No. American Jews. Iran, nuclear armed, along with Syria and thousands of missiles aimed at Israel. Hez with 20,000 rockets and Hamas getting stronger with their own army. A lessening of US support. Egypt getting more aggressive. Smuggling continuing into the Strip and into Israel itself. 5m PALs refugees and growing more and more belligerent. Saudi Arabia will be armed with 30b in state of the art weapons...just because Israel refused to accept what has been obvious since Oslo 1...Jews and Arabs will fight forever, if there is no peace agreement. Is this what you want? Oh, millions of Israelis will look elsewhere to live..and start migrating AWAY. But then again, Israel can count on the Haredi to protect itself. Oh come on, give me a break.
5. olmert must go
jack bauer ,   AU   (08.16.07)
this joker is doing his best to sell out Israel on behalf of his international controllers He must be stopped before its too late. He is not an elected leader that represents Israelis. He should be forced into holding a referendum on any deal he wants to strike with the palis on the americans behest
6. ynet - you're insulting us
Proud Jew ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (08.16.07)
Why write, "would apparently agree to return more than 90 percent of the West Bank"? How can we return something that was never theirs? At least write, "agree to give". This is basic stuff - I expect more accurate reporting from you guys.
7. This is a good deal for us
Aharon   (08.16.07)
If Abbas accepts these terms, then these are excellent terms for a final agreement from our perspective.
8. Here is an equitable and practicable diplomatic horizon:
Uzi ,   Haifa   (08.16.07)
Israel should let Hamas to depose Abbas and smash Fatah in Judea and Samaria, or even help Hamas to do so. Then everybody would like to abolish the PA and wipe it off the world map and consciousness. It will also open the way for the Kingdom of Jordan to take charge as the only nation state of the Arabs of Greater Palestine. Having got rid of the PA, Israel and Jordan should agree on the border between them in Judea and Samaria and maybe cede Gaza to Egypt that would sort it out quite smartly. Everybody, Jews and Arabs, should continue to live in peace where they are and nobody should move from their homes or land. Israelis who become residents of the Kingdom of Jordan should be given rights and conditions like the Arabs in Israel as well as an option for Jordanian citizenship.
9. Any Palestinain state will destroy Israel in a few years
Lemar ,   uk   (08.16.07)
Olmet is crazy. As soon as there is a Palestinian state Hamas will infiltrate and take over as it did in Gaza. Thousands of Muslim terrorists will come to the West Bank and attack Israel. I would not want to be a Jew in Israel under these circumstances
10. What fools Israelis are for alowing this to happen.
Jeremiah ,   Israel's Jewish Land   (08.16.07)
11. Why is our PM giving up parts of the Negev to a Shoa-denier?
Tomer ,   Herseliyya   (08.16.07)
12. No, better to have war
Andras Bereny ,   Kfar Tapuah, Shomron   (08.16.07)
13. Is there an organization to dump Olmert?
Barron ,   Israel   (08.16.07)
Before it's far too late.
14. The sheer chutzpah
SL ,   New York   (08.16.07)
The amazing chutzpah, or arrogance, of Olmert--whose popularity is well below 10%--in preparing a far-reaching document of a proposed final agreement, with an emasculated Arab wimp with no real power, is beyond belief. The apathy of the Israeli public enables this farce to continue.
15. Is this Olmert's starting position?
Israeli ,   Israel   (08.16.07)
If this is Olmert's starting position, I'd hate to see what the final agreement will be. Also, I don't think a PM with 5% support should be negotiating.
16. Mr. Nomore
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (08.16.07)
Enough is enough. Olmert already belongs to the past. His "Fait accomplis" have no applcative values. Kissing Abbas on the cheek will not make a partner of him.
17. Border of Tomato
chaim ,   Tzur hadassa   (08.16.07)
Tell me, do these borders include the tunnels the pals have dug to transport tomatoes? After all the tunnels are there but surely not for terrorist action. Just ask Olmert. They are for transporting vegtables.
18. A smile? Politicians?!
Josh   (08.16.07)
19. Setting the stage for the next conflict.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (08.16.07)
Not that I expect any results from Olmert's BS - this is just blah-blah-blah to keep Labour in the coalition & make the Americans feel good. The Palestinians will never agree to anything & Abbas cannot deliver on anything he agees to anyway. They will stick to a maximalist position that even Olmert wouldn't agree to. Leaving aside the obvious peculiarity of the victor making all the concessions, for the sake of argument, what is the future of a future Palestinian state? Is it viable economically? What will happen when terrorism continues? If Hamas takes over, what are our options? Will we be obliged to re-occupy the new Palestine? Exactly how many Jews will be expelled from the West Bank? Considering the poor job done in the Gaza withdrawal, this is a major problem. What will happen in Gaza? Hamas will not go away. If we catch Fatah affiliated groups in terror attacks, what can we do about it? What if the future Palestine starts to arm militarily? What if they ally themselves with Iran? Will Israeli Arabs demand "special" ties with their cousins? If the West Bank collapses into anarchy & civil war, what do we do? We need open & frank debate on these questions, not the usual leftist wishful thinking.
20. BE AFRAID... BE VERY AFRAID OF THESE TWO LAME DUCKS...
stude ham   (08.16.07)
Their deal will be pieces of paper to be shredded by hamas and the rest of israel with the inevitable overthrow of these two very unpopular politicos. In the meantime begin planning a more effective resistance to both of these idiots.
21. olmert FUDD, ARE YOU DRUNK ??
Juan Epstein ,   Brooklyn, USA   (08.16.07)
you dangerous, dangerous cartoon character
22. Minus IQ - below 20.
H.H.M ,   Jerusalem   (08.16.07)
Are you that innocent or such a fool to call these terms you are not aware of their particulars "excellent" who gave Olmert and his clique for offering anything to anyone. He has NO REAL AUTHORITY MISSING A FACTUAL MAJORITY IN ISRAEL.
23. Peace? What Peace?
Ariel ,   London UK   (08.16.07)
George Bernard Shaw once said that "England and America are two countries separated by the same language." In this case it's Israel and the Palestinians. Olmert and the Israeli political elite think they are negotiating a peace deal. The Palestinians on the other hand believe they are negotiating a 'Hudna' except that they call it peace. A hudna is an Islamic legal mechanism that allows you to negotiate a truce with your enemy under any name you like, 'Peace' for example. Thereafter when they are strong enough they are mandated to break the truce and resume hostilities. There can never be peace with this kind of mindset. Failing to recognise this is only going to result in more tragic deaths and endangers the whole state of Israel.
24. Two nothings add up to NOTHING
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (08.16.07)
Olmert and Abbas only want to distract attention from the fact that they are destroying their own people's future, in order for their own very temporary political (and personal) gains. Olmert and Abbas speak for only a tiny percentage of their own nations, and are hated and mistrusted by the vast majority. They can kiss and cuddle and proclaim all they want, but they are two impotent corrupt politicians who have ZERO support or power back home. The sooner they are gone for good, the better for BOTH populaces.
25. Why is this Goverment Destroying Israel
ralphrants1 ,   USA   (08.16.07)
I have three theories http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
26. This goverment was not even elected
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (08.16.07)
So how do they have a mandate to make this type of deal and cause a Civil War. Olmert not elected Labor Not elected Livni Not elected Barak Not elected Peres Not elected. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
27. Here we go again with the same ole crap!
D ,   Israel   (08.16.07)
28. palestinian state
hymie ,   toronto   (08.16.07)
Its one thing to try to figure out some kind of peace deal with warring arabs. Its another thing to do it in the face of almost no popularity and total rejection by Israel of Olmert. He should step down and stop playing with fire. While it was good to withdraw from Gaza, llok what has followed, rocket after rocket.
29. Just wait to hear
Steve from Raleigh   (08.16.07)
About the inevitable Bedouin 'occupation' of the Negev then. If you give Palestinians land they always claim someone else is occupying it.
30. Stop unsupported Olmert, Livni etc, declare Knesset election
H.H.M ,   Jerusalem   (08.16.07)
Recent voting trials within the still not fully established party KADIMA revealed between other facts, Ehud Olmert did not achieve the stature of party leader, Tzipi Livni ended up in the leader’s competition with number Seven only. These “leaders” more or less self / clique appointed present players with Abu Mazen etc in, Jericho seemingly try to achieve some nearly final agreement formula, which definitely will become obligatory in a wide interpretation and as such create F A C T S! What started as one of the many Olmert’s spins now seems to have reached an unpredictable political level without at least being officially discussed / weighed / decided by the only authority, the present existing Knesset! – Olmert’s qualifications for political decisions have already been judged by the “WINOGRAD COMMISSION PRELIMINARY REPORT = FAILED.” Does anyone want / agreed to repetition of these “famous decision ability of Olmert?” – S O S T O P H I M N O W, before creating any precedence. An immediately needed plebiscite – outside of the now non representative Knesset – should be held with an obligatory promise to carry out the results, whether Israel’s citizens agree to these “LEADERS / NEGOTIATORS FOR ANY FINAL OR SEMI FINAL OFFER TO THE PALISTINIAN AUTHORITIES.” Knesset members should show responsibility / courage by dissolving the Knesset and to go for new elections at the earliest; even it may create some “f o r m e r M Ks” which would receive anyhow a small pension with a few perks.
