1. All of this worth nothing....
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (08.20.07)
if the faith and the love for this land is not restored very quicly! A jewish education and a jewish government is urgently required, because without it,only a miracle will save our beloved people, land and history. Conscienceness, reality, sanity must return quicly to Israel!
2. Can anyone explain, please?
Hamburger ,   Hamburg   (08.20.07)
Why is the article so unclear? What is Striker APC? What exactly are Littoral Combat Ships and who is Lockheed Martin? This is not a military newspaper, and l think most of wide public needs a little more explanation. If anyone of the readers could please expand on that, l would appeciate it. Thank you!
3. Ofcourse make peace by preparing for war
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, MO USA   (08.20.07)
But you are already at war yet you arm, train, feed those that come to kill you. You let them out of prison to be recidivists. You are insane. Expel them now. Enforce their right of return to their peninsular homeland of their own name from which they came from to imperialize your land and others with their love for your death.
4. WHEN OUR EXAULTED.............................

6. To nÂș1 (IDF mulls spending plan).
Eric ,   Miami USA   (08.20.07)
I couldn't agree with you more. Moreover, what Zahal needs on an emergency basis, is how and where to find excellent, highly qualified and motivated middle, senior and top officers to lead Israel's soldiers on the next war. No funds from the USA will ever heal that illness. As I write, there still are several senior and top brass exercising their folded mandates on expired borrowed time. That's shameful!
7. #2 raw Hamburger
Russel ,   Tlv   (08.20.07)
highlight the word, right click and Google the names. Yeesh, we are in the 21st century. FYI, the C130 is not a jet as Ynet erroneously notes, but a turboprop. No hope.
8. give it to army and airforce, navy is waste of time
(08.20.07)
9. #5, the know-it-all
Hamburger ,   you know where   (08.20.07)
For your information, l did live in Israel, served full IDF service in the Air Force, and served in Second Lebanon War in reserve duty too. So next time don't be so Israeli and stop to think before being rude to someone.
10. #7 Really?? Wow, what is Google?
Hamburger   (08.20.07)
Of course l could do that! The point was that if they write an article, it should be clear. lt's not the reader's job to conduct journalist research. Oh, and also, it doesn't look like many of the talkbackers know the answers to my questions. They can only give poisonous answers like "Jeez, go to Google, we are in 21st century", and "if you lived here, you would know". Are you people just reading this for opportunities to put in some ugly comment?
11. Explanation
Michael ,   New Jersey   (08.20.07)
APCs are armored personnel carriers. Littoral Combat Ships are ships designed to operate in shallow waters and near to the shore. Lockheed Martin is one of the largest American defense contractors.

The F-35 is the result of the Defense Department's Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, which sought to build a multirole fighter optimized for the air-to-ground role with secondary air-to-air capability. The JSF requirement was to meet the needs of the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and allies, with improved survivability, precision engagement capability, and reduced life cycle costs. By using many of the same technologies developed for the F-22, the F-35 has the opportunity to capitalize on commonality and modularity to maximize affordability. Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) High-Speed Surface Ship, USA http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/littoral/ This is one neet oversized PT boat. Look up the web site posted FV102 Striker is the Swingfire wire guided anti-tank missile carrying member of the CVR(T) family. This is the next generation APC
13. priority buys, export, organistion is the solution
zionist forever   (08.21.07)
The airforce does need the F-35 to stay ahead of the game. Israel also F-35 development so it shouldt be put on the back of the shopping list. The navy have been neglected for to long so let then get their ships with Iran and Syria navel warfare will become more important long term. The navy has been the poor man in the IDF that gets what left over and is not considered a priority unless foreign countries are heavily subsiding the purchases like the dolphin submarines which were subisised by Germany 2 of them free of charge if Israel bought 1 full price. The ships and F-35 can be purchased using US millitary aid ( which has just been increased to $30 billion over the next 10 years ) and I am sure some kind of deal can be worked out with the US whereby they will subsidise the cost of buying a considerable size fleet. The stryker is a load of rubbish even the US army is revaluating its use and appear to be better on paper than in the battlefield so look at other options. If there is a need to buy more tanks then how about taking the old merkva 1 out of storage where its serving no purpose so try export them to poorer countries who have in the past bought old Israli weapons because they cant affor new and put the money from these sales towards buying new merkava 4 for the IDF. The givernment should make a real effort to exporting merkava to other, officialy the merkava 3 is licenced for export. Put in a real effort to get merkava onto the export market not have it as make a show piece of what Israel can build but hasnt tried hard to sell. If the merkava is succesfully exported then the companies involved in developing the tank can do deals with the IDF so they get it cheaper. Over $1 billion has been invested in the merkava program over the last 20 years. If they can keep making profits then it can justifiably be kept going dont kill the program with the merkava 4 as Olmert and Peretz did its going to cost alot of jobs and the knowladge of tank building will be lost so short term saving means a long term loss. Barak said he wants to take merkava 2 out of storage for reserves so if the bottom range tank Barak wants to use is the number 2 then get rid of the ones that are not being used and invest at all and invest in the future. A tank that sits in storage is no use to anybody and is just a waste of money that could be put to better use elsewhere. Having 1000 merkava 1 in storage looks good on the books but sell them and buy 300 new merkava 4 ( quality not quantitiy ) The IAF should also consider selling some of its older jets its boiught 120 new F-16s so sell some of the older ones from the 70s and early 80s have new F-16s and more F-35s which are the future. I am sure that if the profits from the sales of these older F-16s would be reinvested in the US to buy new F-35s there wouldnt be to many objections the F16 is old technology not something that the US should worry about exporting to friendly nations. Missle defense systems of course are very important but the development costs for these should be considered long term projects not something that has to come out of the anual budget. Before the money starts being handed out then there should be some thinking about the best way to modernise the IDF .. sell off aging equipment thats not being used, dont treat the navy as a second class branch of the IDF and dont buy vehicles like stryker because of a fancy sales pitch.. the infantry needs good equipment but there are plenty of ground vehicles to keep them going for the short term. Long term projects like missle defense should be government funded seperatly.
