1. So Why Draft Them?
John ,   Maaleh Adumim,Israel   (08.21.07)
Now it's just an 'ego' thing we the army - we want to draft everyone. There are some things the army needs (people in combat units, for example) but it doesn't need so many non-combat people, so why draft everyone? It's wasting the army's money. There are whole bases that exist just for the purpose of giving extra jobnicks things to do.
2. THEY DON'T RUIN CAREARS................
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (08.21.07)
THEY RUIN LIVES,WITH ROLE MODELS OF A CIGARETTE SMOKING,SHAMELESS CHIEF OF STAFF THAT WISHES TO COERSE DODGERS INTO SHAME ! YOU CAN'T "ORDER" SHAME ASHKI N--I ,YOU CAN ONLY INTIMIDATE !
3. The draft
Arjun Ramesh Hardas ,   New Delhi   (08.21.07)
Just a query. Is it really still neccessary to continue with the draft? Surely, unlike the 40' and the 50's or even the 60's, the current population is enough to sustain a professional standing army of about, say, 500, 000. Surely, with almost 40% (?) of the population not serving (Arabs, Religious),the concept of "everyone serving" is not really working. Might as well save the money being paid top companies and individuals for monthly service, and spend it instead on the army itself.
4. Pat Tillman was a celebity who served
russel ,   tlv   (08.21.07)
Patrick Tillman was an American football player who left his professional sports career and enlisted in the United States Army along with his brother Kevin Tillman. He was killed in action in Afghanistan. Local celebs who refuse to serve are cowards. Zehu
5. Pat Tillman - a better role model
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.21.07)
After this country was attacked on 9/11, football star Pat Tillman gave up a multi-million dollar career to join the US Army Rangers. He was tragically killed in a friendly fire accident, but that doesn't negate his self-sacrifice. Israel is under existential threat, but many of its "celebrities" don't want to hurt their careers. Heck, even Elvis found a way to serve. Israel's celebrities should too.
6. Army not ruining careers
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (08.21.07)
What a bull s..t of a logic. Who in the army has the right to evaluate which career can be ruined which not? Stop your illogical logic.
7. Draft dodging
James ,   Ramat Hasharon   (08.21.07)
In Israel, we pay high income taxes. Very high actually. But there is a system of points. Most people will see that they are 2.25. It used to be something like if you were a single parent, you got an extra point and if you lived in a development town, you got another. SO a single mother in Sderot would get double. What we need to do is that whoever does full service will get a point meaning that if you do not do full service, you pay more taxes. That way we will weed out many of them
8. "days of leave they needed in order to perform "
Priorities ,   Israel   (08.21.07)
Please. They don't NEED to do any of it. They were not working on a cure for cancer when they became of age.
9. Ben Sahar
Greg ,   New York City   (08.21.07)
i'm all about the IDF...but please don't send Ben Sahar to the army. lol you WILL in fact kill his career.
10. AN IDEA
SHULI ,   CLEVELAND USA   (08.21.07)
here is an idea: if you are too good to serve your country when called upon to do so, then leave. Any Israeli who is not willing to serve should be strippped of their citizenship.
11. this is reasonable
daivd ,   new york   (08.21.07)
while i may love to hate the leftist artists/performers and despise what they often stand for, i do have to note that there is a kernel of truth in their thinking. for an artist/performer 18-21 is a vital period that can not be made up. the army can destroy your future and i think the army should make accomodations in exceptional cases.
12. a quandary
oferdesade ,   israel   (08.21.07)
we've all seen them on the telly, shouting, jumping, pretending to be talented, but not. on one hand, i am so sure the army doesn't need them. on the other hand, neither do we. what's the worse that could happen? then again, they must be good for something. coffee anyone?
13. careers?
OS ,   Israel   (08.21.07)
What are they contributing - really contributing to this country - just because someone is pretty and anorexic and gets paid tons of money for strutting around in fancy clothes = model -- this is an important career that we need to protect - they are not contributing any real value to this country - only their own bank account. They are no better nor more important than anyone else - and should serve the full 2 or 3 years - wherever the army needs them most - It is the young people who will study the sciences, math, medicine who will do more for the future of this country - and if they put in a full service so can the models, singers, etc.
14. What Should Actually Happen
Raz ,   Rishlach   (08.21.07)
Draft the Haredi and reduce the three-year stint to two years.
15. The WUSSY BRIGADES
Juan Epstein ,   Brooklyn, USA   (08.21.07)
shameful
16. celebrity parasites
Mordechai   (08.21.07)
No special units. Let them serve in the same units as everyone else. If they don't serve end their careers. Ban them from being on TV and stage. If they complain let them clean latrines for 3 years. Typical of the left wanting special treatment for the high and mighty
17. IDF Draft
Mark ,   Los Angeles, USA   (08.21.07)
When did mandatory army service in Israel end?
18. IF THEY GET "KNOCKED UP"..................
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (08.21.07)
WILL THE I.D.F. GIVE THESE ELETEST 2 FREE ABORTIONS LIKE EVERYONE ELSE ?
19. #11 Living in the land of Logan's Run
Israel   (08.21.07)
Poor you - ever heard of Madonna? Catherine Zeta Jones? Harrison Ford? I could go on. Many millionaire superstars SURVIVED not being in the limelight during the ages of 18-20. If you can't get out from under your rock alone, get help before your 30-year lifespan passes you by.
20. All the real stars have done full service
tFighterPilot   (08.21.07)
Ninet, Harel Skaat and Harel Moyal (who was in MAGAV) All the Mishtamtim are talentless people.
21. Better yet use them to clear minefields for the soldiers.
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.21.07)
There were many actors and athletes in the American Army in WWII.And as combat soldiers, not "entertainers". Ted Williams,Barney Ross,Hank Greenberg,Clark Gable, ect.
22. #18 To what are you referring
(08.21.07)
"two free abortions like everyone else"?
23. No pride in serving apartheid or oppression
Yesh Gvul   (08.21.07)
each draftee should draw his or her red lines. Some things done by the army nowadays are despicable violations of human rights.
24. Celebs Serving
Walter ,   USA   (08.21.07)
A draft should be all inclusive and not exclude anyone, unless a person is disabled or performs a critical duty. Allowing celebs to do "soft" duty is nothing more than a disguised exemption from service, and nothing more. What message does this send everyone else?
25. Remember Elvis,
Rick ,   Bmore USA   (08.22.07)
He served and it did not ruin his career.
26. #23
mark ,   ca   (08.22.07)
Where is the "humans"??;-)
27. I´m Enlisting!!!
Barry ,   Tokyo   (08.22.07)
28. Israel is the Apple of Gods Eye
Robert Hill ,   Sacramento, USA   (08.22.07)
There seems to be so much pressure on the State of Israel now. It must be so hard to cope with normal life with all the outside forces bearing in. I truly beleive whatever happens in Israel is the key to the will of God the Father. Please let His Peace fill you compleatly. I really enjoyed your website.
29. #24 and #25 US military had a special system for celebs
Logic ,   Israel   (08.22.07)
During the period after WWII, the US military gave famous draftees preferential treatment. Look it up.
30. Good idea...better than doing nothing as they set bad
Robert ,   Tle Aviv   (08.22.07)
examples for our children.
