Great that the IDf is getting anti aircraft missiles we need to upgrade our weapons quickly before the war comes,but the Homefront must not be neglicted either, the shelters need to be fixed,hospitals like Rambam need fortification, and plans must be drawn up by local authorities incase of war.

We should put a few systems that automatically fire missiles upon radar detection of Qassams. And if the battery of 4 or 16 missiles fired back happen to land in Gaza, oh well. It was the PAL terrorists who shot the Qassams and triggered the automatic return fire systems. We never touched the button. A few missiles automatically return fired and striking the heart of Gaza will stop the Qassams very quickly.

All the hardware in the world isn't worth a hill of beans without tough, determined, intelligent leaders with a realistic grasp of strategic thinking. What I'm saying is that we don't need Patriot missiles, we need patriot leaders......

it seems that the idf is already spending the increased american military aid dollars, promised by president bush, on "new toys". the patriot system has a very poor record of intercepting ANYTHING (except friendly aircraft, where it is absolutely deadly, having shot down at least 2 coalition aircraft in iraq). it was originally designed to protect (compact) military installations against attacking aircraft, not (large) civilian populations against missiles. that is why it failed, completely, to actually stop *any* scuds from hitting israel in the first gulf war. revised and upgraded, it is either an untried system, or more of the same just under new marketing - either way, israeli civilians should fix up their nearest shelter.

Why is it going to take 5 years the PAC-3 patriot is a buy off the shelf system allready being exported by the US its not new so why is it taking Israel of all countries 5 years to aquire it. Israel could have the PAC-3 up and running withiin a month during the build up to the war in Iraq the US gave Israel the PAC-2 patriot before then there was only arrow and the PAC-1 givien by the US in 1991 during the Gulf War but now suddenly its going to take 5 years to get the new system up and running. You buy the missles and the radar then you open take it out the box conect them up to each other and your ready to deal with Syrian and Iranian missles. There has also not been enough evolving the arrow system which is frontline of defense there have been tests recently against a scud missle of the type Saddam used in 1991 balaisitc missles today are no scud missles so whats happened to the new version of arrow thats been talked about for ages now.

The 1991 era PAC 1 patriot missle which the US rushed into service during the Gulf war nd they intercepted nothing all they did was provide a little biot of morral. The PAC-1 had never been designed with missle interception in mind but the succesive generations of patriot were. The PAC-2 and PAC-3 were designed as missle interceptors and they do work.

Irans shihb 3 missle they are raqving about is basicly a rip off of the North Korean No Dong missle not the marvels of Iranian engineering they would have us all believe. As far as Israel goes it should be prepared to use a little of its own money buy from others the US doesnt allways make the best and buying inferior products not to upset the US is a mistake. Egypt gets millitary aid from the US they have all the same American toys Israel has they even build American tanks under license but they still buy Russian if they like it better than the American equivilents Israel is intimidaded to easily.
