1. the palestinians use ambulances to transport explosive belts
aaron ,   ra'anana   (08.26.07)
there are consequences to actions (actions which most of the palestinian support). The consequences of murdering 1000+ Israelis since their "democratically elected" government launched and funded the intifada Oct 2000 is increased security. 18 year old Radi al-Wachash is probably on the list of people denied entry to israel because he shot at Gilo, threw rocks at soldiers or is active in Islamic Jihad. My advice to the palestinians is to end their support of terror, relinquish their weapons, and agree to live in peace with their neighbors.
2. This is idiotic
Thomas ,   Cleveland, USA   (08.26.07)
Theres a reason these people have restrictions. They, unlike Israelis, are a security risk. Thos who think otherwise are just delusional. There is a reason that young man was denied entry. It had nothing to do with "Heartlessness". The MDA shouldn't be conscerned with Palestinian lives, they have their own ambulances.
3. WHO GIVES A CRAP ABOUT ARABS? NOT EVEN OTHER ARABS DO!
Yonatan ,   Los Angeles   (08.26.07)
4. Certain elemets of 'society'...
Olej Gamur ,   Israel   (08.26.07)
have a stranglehold on Israel policy. The orthodox, ultras, and other right-wingers want and get ever-increasing amounts of land, money and civilian control than they deserve. The oligarchs simply want good business conditions, so that they can further take advantage of citizens. And the politicians, who are not responsible to anyone, seek any opportunity to enrich themselves. The harsh conditions of Palestinians in the form of physical 'denials' mirrors itself on the Israeli side in the form of bureaucratic denials.
5. So are border controls illegal?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.26.07)
I can't understand these idiots who insist that Israel build a fence (only on '48 boundary), but then complain about controlling who is allowed to enter Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Similarly, I can't see why Israel is morally obligated to remove roadblocks that prevent terrorists taking advantage of freedom of movement to kill people. Is human life only Arab life to these people?
6. Where was Yehida Litani ...
moshe_Israel ,   k.motzkin   (08.26.07)
Where was Yehida Litani when the pals sent a suicide bomber , 14 yr (old mentally retarded) boy , but was caught by the IDF ? when the pals sent an educated young woman who "succeeded " in her suicide mission ? when the pals sent born-in-England suicide bombers to a TA bar, that "succeeded" in their suicide mission ? The injured , and dead did not include Mr. Yehida Litani's relatives, ...Mr. Yehida Litani's concern go to those innocent "palestinians" that genuinely need help. moshe, Israel
7. ugly mountain
ester ,   weiss   (08.26.07)
The writer should look closely, at all the oportunities given to Israeli arabs freedom of movement, a intent of terrorism activities take place. The list given by the army is to be complied with the necessaries security measures (or there will be not list). If our Israeli Arabs feel that this is not convenient, I suggest them to find another place to live, Like Mr Olmert son that lives overseas. Israel cannot afford to loose lives of it's citizen's. I also suggest your newspaper that propagate so much left wings campaing against the right wing. Be thankfull of the right wings as without them there will not exist a Land called Israel. And if it's a the pleasure of the left wing, in another 50 years there will be a State of Israel without jews, or in principal only in name. Down with Maaliv and Idiot Hachronot.
8. #1: Explosive belts on MDA ambulances??!
abdullah ,   al-ashkenaz   (08.26.07)
Never heard of such. I also have to agree with the author as to what possible threat are 80 yo and 3 yo people? If the author's account is true, then the status quo really needs to change before such apathy/cruelty begins to manifest internally in isreali society itself.
9. #4: No such thing as *ultra-orthodox/haredi* right-wingers
abdullah ,   al-ashkenaz   (08.26.07)
just like there is no such thing as a vegetarian beef burger.A truly orthodox jewish position is neither right or left but *yashar*
10. Someone get Litani a tissue
Concerned Israeli   (08.26.07)
The author chooses to ignore a small but critical detail in his little piece. The Palestinians that he cries for are NOT ISRAELI CITIZENS and therefore we have no obligation to let them enter our country. They are citizens of the PA and instead of trying to take advantage of Israeli progress and prosperity, they should be pressuring their own government to stop supporting terror and build them hospitals. It seems that the author doesn't know about the concept of national sovereignty and the fact that no other country in the world would or should open its borders to a hostile population, even if there are some legitimate cases of medical needs. If we open our borders to an 80 year old woman, then tomorrow we'll open for a 60 year old, then a 40 year old, and so on. We have to draw the line somewhere, and that line is our sovereignty. Israeli citizens get Israeli hospitals. Palestinians can build their own.
11. the IDF is just trying to keep murder from happening
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (08.26.07)
because the palestinian population in no way has shunned murder of jews, much less frowning on terror and violence, it seems that the ones complaining also have no problem with palestinians killing jews. and, therefore, this causes me to support the actions of the IDF as reasonable.
12. to abdullah al-ashkenaz #8
Concerned Israeli   (08.26.07)
Never heard of Palestinians transporting weapons in ambulances? What, do you live in a cave? Here's a link, check it out: http://mfa.gov.il/MFA/Government/Communiques/2002/Apprehension+of+ambulance+harboring+a+wanted+terro.htm Ignorance is not an excuse for being an idiot, it's just the result.
13. Litani hasn't visited Gush Etzion, has he?
Roc   (08.26.07)
I live in Gush Etzion, and daily we drive along Route 60 alongside hundreds of Palestinian cars, cabs and trucks as they travel (often recklessly) between Bethlehem and Hebron. Yes, they are not allowed past the checkpoint into Gilo, but that's also to protect Litani from car bombs while he sits at his Tel Aviv cafe. And as for our Palestinian neighbors, Mahmoud from the neighboring village is still in touch with me and doing odd jobs for Jewish neighbors. This despite two suicide bombers who attempted to attack civilians in our community.
14. Settlements require sacrifices
land lover   (08.26.07)
But what's your problem? Be glad that you're a Jew and that it's the other side that makes the sacrifices. Jews need the settlements, they have nowhere else to go. Don't be biased like gentiles. Praise Hashem!
15. #12 concerned isreali: You do know what MDA stands for?
abdullah ,   al-ashkenaz   (08.26.07)
As an isreali you do know it stands for "maghen dawith adom" - a jewish abulance service. So I've never head of a jewish ambulance service being used to transport weapons for palistinians or supporting palistinian guerilla activity against jews in anyway. That was my point. PS. It is the month of elul - be nice. No need for insults.
16. Ugly Mountain air
Ahmad ,   Jerusalem, Palestine   (08.26.07)
This shows how racist, cruel, in humane Israel is. This will only teach the young generation hatred towards Israel, and Israelis, and as long as they still humiliate us Palestinians we will continue to stand tall, and we will continue to live in Palestine. God bless Palestine, and destroy anyone who hate us and humiliate us as well.
17. Ugly Mountain Air
David ,   Beit Shemesh   (08.26.07)
The only reason why some young man is on a list that prevents his entry into Israel and into an Israeli hospital is because we are at war with the Palestinians. We desperately want peace. If they would genuinely pursue peace, no one would be prevented from getting to a hospital on time. Don't blame us when they are ultimately responsible!
18. Gosh - you think maybe it has something to do with the fact
Elazar ,   Haifa Israel   (08.26.07)
Gosh - you think maybe it has something to do with the fact that the Jews are not seeking to conduct mass murders of innocent civilians but the Palestinians are?
19. ARABS-GUSH ETZION
LIORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.26.07)
IF THEY WOULD STOP KILLING INNOCENT JEWS, THEY WOULD HAVE MORE FREEDOM AND A NORMAL LIFE.
20. Thank you
Arja ,   Canada   (08.26.07)
for this article of conscience. They have been few and far between of late at Ynet. But the feedbacks are as typical as ever -- on both sides. I personally believe that it's not healthy to wish anyone what you wouldn't wish for yourself because what I wish for others is like a wish for myself. Revenge is a vicious cycle leading to death for all. I wish peace and health to Israelis and Palestinians both. And yet, I believe Israel must stop the illegal occupation and negotiate in good faith with Palestinians. It won't be easy now that Palestinians have been terrorized and traumatized for so many decades. Israel needs to become a true democracy and grant equal rights to Israeli Palestinians as well. I am very happy to read articles by Yehuda Litani. Wish more Israelis of conscience would speak out! Wish more Americans of conscience would speak out too and put a stop to US funding of Israeli violence.

ester ,   australia   (08.27.07)
Arja, why your goverment don;t give the right's to the inuit people, as you all as a whole, savagely tried to finish them. Can't you put in your small brain that there is no ilegal ocuppation, read READ, Read. And that's the problem with the world. ISRAEL so called occupied land has been there before the pathetic British took over the Califate. It's hard to enter in a discussion with iliteraty, un-learned people. If all the great mulahs, would see their own tails, they would see that the JIHAD that they so much instill in their youth in the end will finish them. Look very closely Iran, where prostitution and drug addictions is rife, and all under the auspices eyes of the so called Mujahadin.... So Arja i suggest that charity begins at home. Give the inuit your house your industries and your land and then you can come and give us a bit of moral lessons. He who lives by the sword will die by the sword.
22. Arja; Arabs, Palestinians don't exist, have been killingJews
Palestiniansareamyth ,   USA   (08.27.07)
For decades and they don't want to stop. The only solution to these Arab occupiers is to send them back to Arabia where they came from. Israel is the homeland of the Jews. And you should crawl back under the rock you come out of.
23. mountain air
ANGELINA ,   HOLON   (08.27.07)
I feel sorry for the innocent arabs, but their violent brothers has brought this upon them. They all suffer because of the bad among them. What a pity.
24. 22 - wow, Jews mysteriously dying?
(08.27.07)
You sound pretty ignorant saying that some people don't exist and at the same time accuse them of killing. It seems that the only myth around here is your intelligence.
