Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.26.07)
Just can't please these people.... nothing less than the deaths of settlers to make them happy.
2. "Settlers enjoy luxury roads"
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (08.26.07)
Good. Build more.
3. Roads to and from Ramat Aviv Jimmel
(08.26.07)
aren't too bad, so stop whining, moaning and all the rest.
4. Settlers enjoy luxury roads
Roxy   (08.26.07)
While the rest of us suffer with dangerous pot hole riddled roads. This is a ludicrous situation we have in this country where the majority of the citizens in Israel live insdie the green line and have to deal with dangerous roads ,while the minority settlers outside the green line have newly paved safe roads to drive on,what happened to the government serving the needs of the majority of the people living here, instead of cow towning to the needs of the few? Don't we the majority of citizens living in Israel deserve safe roads as well? Take a drive down the "highways in the North of Israel with one lane in either direction, see how dangerous they are especially the road to Safed, no dividers to prevent headon collisions, sinle lane in either direction most of the way, don't we the people deserve better than that?
5. i see new roads in the westbank: for jews AND arabs!!!
uli ,   jerusalem   (08.26.07)
these leftist lyers. go there and have a look: yes, new roads are builded in an area with the highest population growth in israel and it is for both, Jews AND ARABS!
6. Abu Abbas, You Are Most Welcome
Michael ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.26.07)
With the impending dismantling of many West Bank settlements, all this road construction amounts to a massive infrastructure subsidy for Fatah. For either the settlers or the PA, in either case, this is a very generous gift from the hardworking and taxpaying people of Israel for one of two ungrateful groups. Just an observation.
7. Yariv looks like a doofus
roni   (08.26.07)
But it's quite fitting that the Secretary-General of Peace Now would look like that.
8. palestinians could have had all of this, and more
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (08.26.07)
if they didn't insist on fighting the jews and accepted their defeat by embracing the new reality peacefully, they would be having excellent lives, especially in contrast to their self-inflicted misery now AND in contrast to the standard of living/freedom absent elsewhere in the middle east. like the song says: livin' and dyin' by the choices they've made....
9. Once again settlers are the devil
D ,   Maale Chever, Israel   (08.26.07)
Not only are we holding up world peace, now we are causing Israel's traffic problem. Nough said.
10. What about Arab roads?
Frank ,   Canada   (08.26.07)
Arabs are flooded with billions of dollars. Instead of using this money for jihad, they could use it to build roads.
11. Peace Now warped propaganda
JPS ,   Efrat   (08.26.07)
Liars, damn liars, and a Peace Now leader who quotes "statistics". Oppenheimer would have the world believe that peace would break out, doves would fly, and lilies would fall from the sky if only the "settlers" would go away. He would also like everybody to believe that Palestinians are forced to drive on donkey trails. Ok, you're all invited to send camera crews out to Hwy 60 south of Jerusalem. Yes, a big ugly wall is going up there to keep out suicide bombers (if Oppenheimer could convince the Pals to stop their policy of suicide bombers, the majority of Israelis would agree to take the wall down. But reality is tough and Peace Now is in the minority here.) But lookie-see! The majority of traffic on Hwy 60 has green and white (aka Palestinian) license plates! And look at the El-Khader intersection - looks like a multi-million dollar underpass to allow direct traffic between Bethlehem and El-Khader. And let's just say it again - if the Palestinians stop their illegal policy (defined as war-crimes not by me, but by Amnesty Intl and Human Rights Watch) of suicide bombings, shootings and throat slittings, then we could find another way of doing things. However, reality says that Yariv Oppenheimer is wrong.
12. Roads and Barak
Baruch Nili ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (08.26.07)
So now we know. There are roads for Jews only and more will be built - at our expense. We are infuriated when outsiders criticise us for what look like apartheid policies. These roads and the announcement about Barak negotiating with yesha over the future of illegal hilltop outposts makes it impossible to deny the charge. And where does the responsibility for this currently lie? With the new Emperor of the Settlements - Imperator Barak. Nothing it seems has changed and neither has this leopard's spots. Having presided over one of the largest expansions of settlement construction in our history as Prime Minister, now as Defence Minister, Barak is proving that not only is he the same old Barak but that the difference between him and his oldest and almost demised rival Sharon is a hairsbreadth. The Yesha council must have rubbed its hands with glee at Barak's election and winning the Defence portfolio. This is just another disgusting proof that the Washington summit is all hot air when the government of Israel is willing to negotiate the continuance of illegal hiltop outposts. In Olmert's shoes I'd stop the pretence and declare annexation of the West Bank. And stop fooling everyone about his peace plans.
13. 7 and the Rest
Disgusted ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (08.26.07)
If Oppenheimer looks like that think how you and all the rest appear as you doom the rest of us to much more than accusations of apartheid and outcasts. You doom us to a 21st century Metzada and I scorn that kind of blinkered bigoted future vision for anothere generation of young Israelis, less of whom are ready to wear the IDF uniform with pride. Now you know why.
14. #5 No...
Aharon   (08.26.07)
There are seperate Israeli and Palestinian roads...
15. Weall Excuuuuuse Me!
emanon ,   USA   (08.26.07)
Which group uses their money to build roads? Which group uses their money to build bombs? Which group uses their money to buy machinery for building? Which group uses their money to buy machinery of destruction? There's your answer why one side has roads and the other does not.
16. #14 Aharon
Yossi Sarid ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.26.07)
Actually, there are no separate Arab and Israeli roads. There used to be roads for everyone. The Arabs said that Jews are not allowed to travel on the roads. Jews who tried were slaughtered. By-pass roads were built where Arabs and Jews may drive. Which road do you know is forbidden for Arab travel? There is no such thing.
17. Peace now and roads
Jeremy ,   Hula Valley Kibbutz   (08.26.07)
Hey, Yariv if you don't like the roads on the Western half of our country then move East and live in the settlements, then you won't have anything to complain about while driving on the roads.
18. Peace Now = Foreign Agents
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (08.26.07)
Peace Now where do you get your money from, Certainly not from the Israeli people.
19. Peace Now are .0002% of Israeli population
Steven ,   San Francisco   (08.26.07)
Yet they write 10% of the columns, and cause 95% of the problems.
20. It is Israel's Land
Brod ,   USA   (08.26.07)
It is Israel's Land since 4000 years ago which Israel liberated from the Islamist-Jihadist occupiers in 1967. Israel needs to develop the land for its own people and for its internal security interests. Those who are crusading the interests of the ravenous wolves are internal enemies of Israel. As such they do not belong in Israel.
21. "luxury" roads = new roads?
Susan ,   Israel   (08.26.07)
The roads didn't exist before, so we build them. Should we build brand-new roads with potholes just to make Peace Now idiots happy?
22. judging from tone of TBs the article must b on point!
(08.26.07)
negative personal attacks from the right wingers only come out when they the left makes a correct point. So thinking about it the left must be right! tee! hee! enjoy life instead of complaining all the time
23. how about looking at the land as all of ours?
yoni ,   jewrusalem   (08.26.07)
the land of israel belongs to all of us. if we have nice roads in one place and not such great ones in another we should reflect on that and see how to help the whole country. it is good to have nice roads. Thank G-d lets continue and make the whole country nice
24. if the Palis would
jerome ,   basalt, co   (08.26.07)
spend there Eu given aid money on improving there roads among other things they need and stop spending on weapons of minor destruction they to could have nice roads. The poor Palis are victims of themselves once again!!!
25. more anti settler incitement
Y ,   Israel   (08.26.07)
Since YNET allows inciteful articles against the patriotic settlers I suppose its okay to think about how many Jewish lives would be saved if Israel didn't have to spend so much money bailing out bancrupt Arab local councils and supporting the vast number of arabs in Israeli prisons. All that money could go to improving the health care system, road safety, IDF procurement of advanced weapons etc.
26. Judging from the zero of #22's rebuttal, duh?
JPS ,   Efrat   (08.26.07)
Duh? Are you left wingers all as dumb as your comment? Nyaa nyaa nyaa nyaa nyaa-nyaa??? Didn't occur to you that if Oppenheimer is totally wrong, people won't be jumping for joy? Or are you one of the dupes who thinks that all Palestinians want to live peacefully in a two-state solution, which is why their maps and schoolbooks all show a.... oops, a one-state solution called Palestine?!?!?
27. Luxury & Indulgences
R. Alkalai ,   USA   (08.27.07)
Oppenheimer complains about settlers having "luxury roads", while he enjoys the luxury of indulgence in his own self-hatred, to the detriment of his own people's safety and survival. He enjoys the luxury of deceit- in the intentional, malicious, negation and distortion of facts, and clearly documented history, in order to serve his own ambitions, and agendas. The time has come to demand the uncovering and full disclose of the actual sources of how such luxury is funded. And, how Oppenheimer can afford to be so indulgent.
