1. iphone hacked in Israel
Carolyn   (08.26.07)
Big deal it was already hacked by a 19 year old computer hacker in the USA a few days ago, and he even left instructions on his blog how to do it!
2. make iphone avalible in Israel get into the computer market
zionist forever   (08.26.07)
The solution make the phone avalible in Israel with any network that wants it. Apple could use iphone as a way to try kick start a place in the Israeli computer market. Let the Israeli buy their iphone and then encourage them to buy an imac.

Oh wow - you've *cracked* the code. Whoopi! Now you can enter the annals of all the great hackers of the world. What prestige! All you need to have done was apply that cunning *know-how* to something useful, original, healing and wonderful for humanity that didn't involve your egos - world peace or how to love your neighbor. Something to think about next time you ponder cryptography. In spite - Am Yisrael Chai!
4. FYI #1
Alan ,   Brooklyn   (08.26.07)
FYI, If you go about to unlock it the way the USA kid did it, you have to use software and solder the iphone, so its a big mission. The way these 3 Israeli boys did it, you dont have to solder or open the iphone, its software driven.
5. what a minute r we praising these guys 4 having committed a
hacking crime? ,   is this good?   (08.26.07)
6. What this "hack" tells us - and doesn't
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.26.07)
It tells us there are at least a few in Israel that are taken with Apple's products, and are open to a challenge. Anything Apple was hard to find on my last visit to Israel. I think Israelis are so taken by the success of Microsoft that they are blissfully unaware there is anything better. But Apple is all about the total experience, and I seriously doubt they're getting the full functionality by working around the system's limitations. Apple is following such hacks closely, and could close many of them with the next update. Speaking as a stockholder, I can only hope that the iPhone, like other Apple products, finds a bettter reception in Israel than I encountered in '05. If/when I make the move there, I - with Macs in tow - will do my part.
7. Leave it to Israeli Hackers
Malcolm   (08.26.07)
Israelis are so proud of their programming prowess. There are only two sites on the internet that can effectively penetrate my pop up blockers...YNET & Haaretz. The Haaretz one is actually an insane medley of pop-ups that take over the computer and start a mock scan as if it were a windows scan. It is hard to believe that Haaretz in particular is so stupid to allow a paid advertiser to do something so rude...But that again it is a matter of Israeli pride in their hacking "ingenuity".
8. To Malcolm - on those popup "scans"
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.26.07)
I've been more fortunate than you where Ynet's popups are concerned. Using Firefox' popup blocker and the Adblock Plus extension almost nothing gets through. I suffer with you the Ha'aretz popups from drivecleaner.com which have the audacity to claim the presence of Windows malware - it's a lie, of course, since I'm running a Mac. I wrote Ha'aretz to complain, but they ignored me. Of course, with the passing of Zeev Schiff, there's much less reason to waste time on their site.

y would you waste your time and energy writing a comment on an article in ynet about 3 teen hackers in israel if you were not seriously bored. as bored as those hackers perhaps. how bout shoving you sanctimounious bs where the sun dont shine and we dont have to hear it. i mean honestly you must be a pathectic individual do register you "outrage" on some pathetic thing like this. and what exactly would you reccomend that these teens do with their ski8lls that are proggresivly humanistic eh?
10. Good job, guys!
Suncountry ,   U.S.   (08.26.07)
One article I read in the U.S. about the guy who hacked the iPhone but had to do something with soldering (yikes!) said that there actually isn't a law against it. Amazing. This software hack sounds more reasonable. Many people here are stunned that Apple set up the deal only with AT&T... excluding probably most of their long term customer base. We're all just waiting to be able to use it with our other carriers. Now that you've made a Hebrew interface, will you please make a Hebrew/English translation ap for the iPhone? Apple products are great. I've used them at home from the beginning. I've used PCs at work and have just watched Microsoft go along right behind the Mac OS. Talk about lack of ingenuity! I sometimes wonder how MS gets away with it. I always figure Steve Jobs & Co. just like to invent and leave the commodization of the business to MS. May be a marketing opportunity for Raymond from DC if he moves to Israel. Macs seem more Israel-like than PCs. But that's just my opinion.

13. I don't think it shows boredom..
Micha   (08.27.07)
or anything else other than they were curious. And this type of curiosity I think is great. The kind of hacking that destroys others computers and is malicious? not so great. The kind of boredom and deviousness that blows up kids and other civilians on purpose? Really evil. So, in conclusion, let the curious people do this and they will eventually be computer scientists. Any problems with that?

15. Reinventing Failed Policies
Ariel Yochanan ,   London UK   (08.27.07)
Why on earth would Apple restrict the iPhone to AT&T? It was this kind of policy that killed the circulation of the Mac, an otherwise brilliant piece of engineering.
16. Funny I heard it was a 17yo USA male
Spinner ,   World   (08.27.07)
Funny that CNN reported a similar story, but it was a 17 year old male from the US who collaborated with 2 Russians and another US person. Now you are trying to say it was "just" these Israelis who were able to crack the iPhone. Funny, in both stories they stated "but did say practically anyone could do it" it was a hardware and software "fix" that needed to be done. If you people thought that no one would be able to hack the iPhone, well you are just mindless!!!
17. Forget iPhone, get these guys to hack our enemies!
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (08.27.07)
During Lebanon 2, Hezbullah was able to hack the IDF thanks to Iranian know-how. It should be the other way around. Get the best Israeli hackers to mess around with the computers and communications of Hamas, Fatah, Hezbullah, Syria and Tehran. Saving the country is more vital than free Apple service, don't you think?

Please cite the relevant section and paragraph of the law that was broken? It is not illegal in the USA to unlock a mobile phone, even if it requires a hack. And since the hack was performed in Israel, it would be Israeli law that would apply, not US law. Just think about this for a minute. AMD was eating Intel's lunch for quite a while until Intel's Israeli engineers redesigned their processors, helping them regain the lead in clock speed. Israel has been turning out some of the world's finest engineers for quite a while now.
19. iPhone system hacked
Jim A ,   Raleigh, NC   (08.27.07)
The Israelis didn't originate that hack at all. It was Mr. Hotz, a 17 year old from the United States (with help from 2 Russians and another American). Mr. Hotz posted the hack on his site, and that is how the Israelis got the iPhones unlocked.
20. Sorry, Someone Beat You to It
Bob ,   Pensacola, Florida   (08.28.07)
Why did it take a group of engineers to do this? An American teenage did it last week, a 17-year old kid, whiling away his summer after high school, until college started.
21. 17 year old from NJ hacked it first
OJTNews.blogspot.com   (08.28.07)
A 17 year old kid from NJ was the one who first hacked into the Iphone. He posted instructions on his blog.
