1. Championed electoral reform
Yaccobi was one of the authors of the electoral reform bill that raised the minimum threshold and led to direct election of the prime minister.
Unfortunately, it was only a first step in what was supposed to be a move to direct election of at least half the MKs.
Unfortunately, Yaccobi and the other authors of the bill from different parties, right and left, were out of the Knesset by the time the current load of weak-kneed public-purse-snatchers rolled back the direct election of the PM and quashed any idea that MKs would be directly elected, and thus direct accountable to their electorate.
I hope Yaccobi's efforts to improve the system of government are both remembered and acted upon to give us a better country.
A very talented public servant who served his country with distinction.
He will be missed.
