1. Support for regimes which aid terror???
DR ,   Florida, USA   (08.29.07)
Syria supports Hezballah, a terror group, right? Germany supports Syria, right? You do the math!!!
2. This seems like a pay-off.
MARK ,   USA   (08.29.07)
Syria gets cash. It is a bribe for Syria to end its relations with Iran. There is no free lunch. That cash comes with strings.
3. Israel killed more children than Hizbollah, Syria and Iran.
Mo ,   Somewhere   (08.29.07)
But enjoys the support of the USA, Europe and ... Germany!
4. is this move
(08.29.07)
european and american way to sway assad to our side? won't work at all. you people do not know arab mentality. today your friend, tomorrow your enemy. the biggest mistakes the usa and europe does is its inability to understand the arab mental set and how they function. this is the failure of the west.
5. hmmm...
woww ,   LA   (08.29.07)
It is a payoff, but for how long will it work? The only long term achievement could be if it really gets spent on infrastructure thus making Syria less dependent from Iran. However #4 is right, they cannot be bought.
6. cheap Germans...
abo layla ,   lobnan   (08.29.07)
assad spend the 34 million in one night @ night club in shamco.
7. Germany supporting terrorism? ;-)
Martin ,   Germany   (08.29.07)
You shouldn't forget that it's still a support for the Iraqui people, for human beings. Germany does certainly not support terrorism. Yes, it's possible to see and to name all the victimes while accusing terrorists and supporting Israel. Besides, it's just a try to build up better diplomatic relations which has to bring a benefit to the whole region. It's just the way how diplomacy works, even it's more a symbolic helpĀ“. Maybe it's a better alternative than speaking about war with syria. Maybe it's a reason why Germany is a quite respected partner to many states in the world...
8. your alternatives...
Martin ,   Germany   (08.29.07)
what would be your alternative? the american way, the solution for israel in dealing with Syria.. ..no,eh, no I don't need to know....
9. #3, care to back that up with figures?
Danny   (08.29.07)
10. To #3
H.Refaeli   (08.29.07)
First of all Israel has not killed more children than Hizbollah or any other middle eastern country. Israel NEVER kills anyone in cold blood. Israel defends itself using the highest moral standards known to the world. So take your BS elsewhere. And as for Syria getting German money that is the stupidest move for worldwide stability.

observed ,   israel   (08.29.07)
germany has killed more children, adults people than israel , hizballa syria, the pa and maybe iran, for all of you with a short lived memory.....
12. german money
(08.29.07)
may come with strings attached. however, if there is no one from germany or europe monitoring how this money is being spent, the situation with euro aid will be similar or identical to the pa in gaza and west bank. it's ok to give if a country needs it badly. however, this cash needs to be monitored to know for sure that it will end up for the people and not for hizbullah and hamas. giving aid without responsibility and tracking how the aid is spent is the most insane thing to do, particularly when dealing with hostile arab regimes. particularly in knowing that same regimes do aid hizbullah, insurgents in iraq and hamas in gaza and west bank.
13. 7 Where??? Not so much in my mind.
freedom ,   canada   (08.29.07)
Shouldnt Germany eliminate all trade relations with North Korea, Iran, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Cuba... I guess I could say a few more... So what do you stand for.. Tell me now..
14. Germany gives Syria aid
Simon ,   C.Town,South Africa   (08.29.07)
It sounds crazy Syria is armed to the teeth- thats where their money has gone. Stupid Germans !
15. Unbelievable...
Sunshine   (08.29.07)
and as a German I'm ashamed. I could vomit when reading that. Syria aides Hisbollah, Germany supportes Syria so everybody able to do math can see in which direction the money goes. Considering that Germany is aiding a terror group. Bearing the history in mind it's really unbelieveable.
16. #7, Martin...do the math!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (08.29.07)
I understand that you think this is a diplomatic attempt by germany to bring Syria into talks etc. BUT, we all know that Syria aids Hezballah, a terror group. And we all know that Syria and Iran are close partners. Giving them money is like rewarding them for bad behavior. We need to isolate Russia, Iran, and Syria as long as they support and harbor terror
17. $34 M????
woww ,   LA   (08.30.07)
Seriously, what is it enough for?????
18. #17..its enough for...
DR ,   Florida, USA   (08.31.07)
1.New training facilities for Hezballah. 2.More anti-tank missiles for Hezballah 3. More recruiting videos for Hezballah. Why give money to regimes who support terror???
19. #18
woww ,   LA   (09.01.07)
You might ask the State Department the same question. Saudi Arabia, Egypt etc. Not that I don't agree with you, but seriously, I think the gesture has more importance (Germany talking to the Syria again) than the actual amount.
20. #3 google al Hama massacre, ignorant
