1. George Bush does not want peace.
Mark ,   usa   (08.30.07)
Olmert does whatever Bush tells him to say, think, or do. The orders are coming from Washington DC.
2. Agree 100%
Merrill ,   New York, NY   (08.30.07)
We want peace with Syrian people, but not with Syrian regime that supports enemies of Israel (Hamas, Hizbullah). Plain and simple.
3. no Arab peoples want peace with you
ayman ,   jersey usa   (08.30.07)
No Arab peoples want peace with the biggest criminal gang in history the Israeli zionists. I agree 100% with the author about how the Assad regime is brutal and can careless about its people. But if Israel wants to take that move they should cancel all peace agreements with the Egypt and Jordan cause they are as brutal and dictators as the Assad regime. me personally would respect you people a lot more.

Well said and about time. I had largely given up on ynet as a source of intelligent opinion.
5. FINALLY... Somebody is speaking "Logic"
Akram ,   Paris/Beirut   (08.30.07)
It's really such a shame to wait more than 3 decades to reach to The Truth. Now, this has been said, and this article is released, we ask: Is there somebody listening in the Israeli Government? I truly doubt there are people who "think" within PMO cabinet. These people brought nothing but more headache: not only to their own citizens, but to the entire region (with the stupid Lebanon War 2 that served Hezbollah more than Syria and Iran have done for the last 10 years!!!). Knock, knock... Wake up Olmert!
6. "Peace" with them
(08.30.07)
means continuous Arab Islamic invasion NO FALSE PEACE WITH TERRORIST STATES
7. The other arab regimes do not like Assad, but...
woww ,   LA   (08.30.07)
they still like him a lot more than they will ever like any Israeli. This is not going to change, or at least not for another 100 years, and I'm an optimist. We have a secular regime in place that functions badly for their people but at any rate it functions and keeps all the eterrorist organizations on a leash. Does anyone want to have the chaos currently in Iraq at our border? Syria serves as a buffer zone.
8. The Ever Appeasing & Fawning 'Jewish' Leadership.
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (08.31.07)
The Peace Now/Death Now cadre have twisted around the thinking of so many in Israel and beyond, that they often don't know which end is up. Surely a less fawning, a less groveling, a less prostrating, and a more assertive, more self confident, more righteous, more justice oriented Jewish leadership would NOT answer their calls for 'peace'. Surely the same can be said for ALL the hostile, antisemitic regimes which spew hatred in their countries as their number one diet staple. And that INCLDES Egypt, the aider and abettor of all the lethal weapons amassed in Gaza & Fatah hands. The ONLY time they make noises of 'helping' to stop a shipment is when Washington is due to fill their coffers.
9. Beautiful

10. Assad is a confused idiot!
Daniel ,   Israel   (08.31.07)
11. Israeli Government Should React.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (08.31.07)
You write :".. the size of the absurdity in which we believed ". Mr. Bechor, thank you for the INSIGHT you have given us. The Israeli Government should REACT the way you have pointed out. I can foresee that the RESULT will be overwhelming -- in favour of Israel.
12. singing a different song
Carolyn ,   Israel   (08.31.07)
Being ready for peace is good, but at the sametime we must prepare for war! Syria and Hezbollah are the lap dogs of Iran ,and like dogs they will attack only when their Iranian masters tell them to!
13. #3
(08.31.07)
remmeber that this so called peace with jordan and egypt did not come to israel without a price. we have given territory we conquered because of a war you people unleashed on us. but we gave it back for peace and so, we do now have peace with jordan and egypt. yes, they are also tough regimes, but, they also recognize that we as jews have a right to our land. the true land of our fathers with its capital in jerusalem.....which by the way, will never be given back! israel now knows what land concessions mean to us....more terrorism.
14. another ice-cold 'peace'
Cameron ,   USA   (08.31.07)
Do you think we could blame it all on George Bush?
