It is an anomaly that is clearly not the usual pattern of behavior for the Israeli army. On the other hand, the so-called Palestinian "resistence fighters" have been consistent in their recruitment of children to help them with whatever the hell they think needs resisting (eg. kindergartners on their way to school in Sderot, people driving along highways, loud-mouthed settlers, etc. ) It is the overall pattern of behavior and what is deemed culturally acceptable that distinguishes the methods used by the fighters. Well David if the Israelis want to "wipe out" the Palestinians they sure haven't done a very good job so far have they? Considering that they have one of the best armies in the world you would think after occupying so called Palestinian land for 40 years that they could have easily accomplished the goal and yet there are still over 2 million Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza. Not tio mention close to a million of them living in Israel proper.

They seek peace with Arabs, and have met with success in doing so. They build their society and invest in education so their children can have better lives. The fortunes that have been lavished on the Palestinians have produced nothing good, only more armaments to be fired indiscriminately at civilians. There is a world of difference between the children of these societies. It's not the fault of the Palestinian children. But it is a fact and a great tragedy. This sad truth is recognized by many Palestinians themselves though, shamefully, not the author of this article.
