OIlmert is to busy trying to please his new best friend Abbas than he is the lives of Israelis and if a Gaza operation isnt what Abbas wants then its nnot what Olmert wants and the residetns Sderot as far as he is concerned can rot in hell while he meets with his friends. The rest of the western world is trying to isolate Syria untill it ends terror and breaks ties with Iran but good old Olmert is reaching out a hand to save Assad when everybody else is putting him down. Olmerts ready to give up the Golan on Assads terms instead of saying hey Israel holds all the cards here and Syria has alot of other problems alot more important than the Golan so we play by Israelks rules which means a small portion of the Golan going to Syria as a token gesture but Israel keeps the rest and Syria formerly gives up claims to it and in exchange Israel and the US will have formal peacefull relations with Syria. Assad comes out of it with some financial help to kick start the Syrian economy, he gets a part of the Golan so he still has his victory and nobody would be causing problems for him ion the west .. the US can even get the UN to drop the Rafik Harriri investigation and of course Assad gets the standard nobel peace prize and can go down in the history books as the great man who hellped to bring peace to the Middle East.
