31. I reluctantly support this
Jason, Ph.D. ,   USA   (09.07.07)
I would caution the Pals that this is their last chance for peace, and not to blow it again. The last time Israel offered the Pals a deal like this, the result was suicide bombers. If that happens again, then this time I support Israeli annexation of the West Bank. Will the Pals make the historic decision to accept a state of their own, rather than just trying to deny Jews their state?
32. Mr Khalid
JH ,   Earth   (09.07.07)
Live from Gaza, it's Saturday Night Live, comedy sketches from Khalid!!!!!!!! The word of the month is OCCUPATION. It is the first word they learn while still in the womb.
33. Things will get better as missiles start falling in Gush Dan
Avraham ,   NYC   (09.07.07)
Then the Army will take over the territories. Have faith, fellow Jews. All that G-d is doing is for the ultimate good.
34. Israel offers and Arabs wait for more
Sam ,   Canada   (09.07.07)
The present negotiations seem similar to those during Camp David and Taba. Israel offers and the Arabs say , not good enough. So Israel comes back with more concessions. Meanwhile the Palestinians are firing missiles. I have not heard anything about Arab compromises on Jerusalem, borders and refugees. It's time for Israeli negotiators to stop being such wimps. The process should not go forward if only Israel is offering concessions.
35. Nonsense
Michael ,   Connecticut, USA   (09.07.07)
I'm sorry, but this is the most ridiculous nonsense that I've ever heard. We already know that the idea of land for peace doesn't work. We withdrew from Gaza and now we have a terrorist state. We withdrew from Southern Lebanon and now there is a terrorist state. I was under the impression that the idea was to protect Israelis within their borders, not create a perimeter of terror all around the state. We shouldn't go promising anything to anyone until there is a renunciation of violence and the establishment of normal relations between the neighboring parties. Why isn't Bibi in control? Why not Leiberman? Anyone with a little backbone would be a nice change!! Let's try not to give away the entire country!!
36. The begining of the end.
Wise Man ,   USA   (09.07.07)
Israel gave back Sinai, Gazza, South Lebanon. Now will gave the West bank and soon the Golan hights. Can you say good bye Israel.
37. And what does Israel get in return?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.07.07)
We all know: Hamas takes over the WB.
38. Olmert can not do this without a referendum
freejay ,   Israel   (09.07.07)
It is the peoples decision, not the traitor Olmerts! This is totally illegal! The law states it must be presented as a referendum first! It will be a civil war if he tries this illegally, and i hope Olmert, Ramon, Livni, Peres,Barak all get what they deserve! Jail or worse......use your imagination!
39. # 19 Ahalan ya Wissam
Sagi ,   Israel   (09.07.07)
The only thing "stolen" in this part of the world is Israel. It was stolen by the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Crusaders, the Turks and the Arabs. Wissam put this in your ras and keep it there. Israel will never be stolen again, never. Saha wasahtein ya Wissam.
40. Ramon Pullout
Neal Rothner ,   Hashmonaim, Israel   (09.07.07)
Mr. Ramon doesn't know the difference between PEACE & PIECE. Nor Rosh Hashana and Tisha B'Av. Neal the Hasmonean
41. And what do we get?
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (09.07.07)
Article after article about what we'll give up. GIVE NOTHING UNTIL WE SEE WHAT WE'LL GET. Missiles on the coastal plain from a Hamastan on the west bank is my bet! Abbas is still a dictator whose days in power are numbered. There is no chance of lasting negotiations with such as him. Jews wake up and stop being fools.
42. How can I hire Ramon to teach me the...
ER ,   Canada   (09.07.07)
...art of negotiation? Does he come cheap?
43. This is a crime! It's insanity.
Steve ,   US   (09.07.07)
I think of all our thousands of young men who fought and died for our land. Many lost arms and legs; eye sight, disfigured for life. This is our land. Jews do not want to hear this; God gave this land to us and now we are going to give it to criminals? To murderers? Jews will not be blessed for this crime but cursed. God will not bless the Jews. This is our land. All of it. If the Arabs do not like it, I'm sorry. MOVE. Go to any number of your 22 Arab states. We will help you financially. Jews will pay a terrible price for this betrayal. This land was given to our forefathers and to their descendants by eternal covenant by the Almighty. This land belongs to all Jews, for all time. Ramon, Olmert, Livini, Peres, etc., have no right to give it to our enemies. This will only bring bloodshed and destruction on the Jews. Please. This is insanity!
44. #22: UN hogwash from Khalid (UNR 242)
sk ,   USA   (09.07.07)
I think the UN and "international law" are a net negative by a long shot. Still, if one is going to claim to abide by such "law," one should do so fairly and with an understanding of the "law" in question. 1. SCR 242 was implemented under Chapter VI, not Chapter VII. Therefore it is considered "advisory" not "obligatory" or "binding." In keeping with that, it is unenforceable, and either party can disregard it or withdraw from it. 2. Chapter VI does NOT have to do with "ACTION WITH RESPECT TO THREATS TO THE PEACE, BREACHES OF THE PEACE, AND ACTS OF AGGRESSION" but rather with "PACIFIC SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTES." It is simply false to suggest that anything under Chapter VI outweighs conventional understandings regarding war, including war "booty" (which, I should add, is the English translation of the Arabic word used by Mo himself when he seized land and killed, enslaved, or subjugated non-Muslims). That AGGRESSORS lose territory is part of the common law of nations, as can be seen in spades with Germany and WW2. 3. SCR 242--for the million time--was drafted carefully so as not to RECOMMEND (it cannot REQUIRE anything, as we have seen) that ALL land acquired in Israel's defensive wars be ceded to the Muslim enemy. The text refers to "territories" not "all territories," and the drafters of this resolution were very clear that this was no sloppiness on their part. 4. IN CONCLUSION: 242, which never had any binding force and therefore could not make anything "illegal," and which never outweighed common law, and which indicated that some territories could indeed be retained by Israel, could not possibly explain why Judea, Samaria, and Gaza are called by some "occupied territories." In fact, the use of "occupied territories" comes from the 4th Geneva Convention, which is also irrelevant here because it applied only to STATES, and the PA is no state. Khalid, then, couldn't be more wrong. Note that I haven't even addressed the absurdity of Muslims complaining about land grabs when the House of Islam is one big land grab.
45. It is Israel's Land
Brod ,   USA   (09.07.07)
It is Israel's Land that GOD gave to the Jewish people since 4000 years ago. Israel should protect every inch of its liberated GOD-given liberated Biblical and Historic Homeland from the usurpation and occupation of the Islamist-Jihadists. Do you think giving away your land will lead to peace? Assuming the proposal of the loose canons goes through and Israel's territories are being occupied by the Taliban of the Middle East. The Islamist-Jihadist fanatics will be shooting more rockets at Israel. And Israel will have no other choice but to reliberate its Biblical and Historic homeland from the Islamist-Jihadist occupiers. This will cost more money, human lives and destructions. To avert this, Israel must protect its liberated territories like a baby and it will protect you. And GIVER of the land to the Jewish people 4000 years ago will also protect Israel from its pernicious enemies.
46. TO 21 and 22
Shai ,   IL   (09.07.07)
Khaled of Lebanon, the Palestinians refused this very offering when it was made during the Clinton Administration. Thousands of deaths later, polls of Palestinians show that by a margin of nearly 9:1, they won't accept any of the compromises Ramon proposed. Believe me, you won't have to depend on Israelis to scuttle the deal. Khalid of Gaza, Israel's wars have never been with Palestinians, and there has never been a state of Palestine. The land you want for a state under UNSCR 242, which is an international law not less than your "annex land after a war" clause, will have its boundaries defined in part on whether Israel's security is achieved, as 242 explicitly states. What Israel calls "security" and what Palestine calls its "boundaries" is, under 242, a matter of negotiation. But don't expect Israel to stand by and wait for Syria, Palestinians, and others who see her as their enemy cite international law to hamstring our ability to protect ourselves, all the while they ignore 242's reciprocal obligation to end their incessant beligerancy against Israel, also "international law". So if you want to cite "international law" Khalid, cite the entire context, not just the part that suits you.
47. Wissam 19
Shai ,   IL   (09.07.07)
Your sense of humor is warped. First as a matter of fact, Arab villages never covered every m2 of Israel, such that every m2 we live on is somehow taken from Arabs. This claim of yours is, prima facie, nonsense. Next, Arabs themselves steal lands all the time. Look in the Negev, where Beduin have established many "unauthorized villages" on state lands, and even demand that we hook them up to utilities. Many parts of the Arab Quarter and Old Hebron were stolen from Jews who were kicked out in the Arab riots in the first quarter of the last century. The entire area, in fact, is inhabited by Arabs who conquered the Land of Israel in the first wave of conquest by Muslims in the early 7th Century. SO don't give us your ethics lessons, Wissam. Rather, most of Israel's lands were bought with cash from teh Jewish National Fund, were handed over by the British Mandate when Israel became a sovereign state (and they in turn got it from the Ottoman Empire). Arab lands that have clear title, if they were used for other uses after their owners abadnoned them, were evaluated and the Apotropos Haklali will reimburse their owners their value, if their owners can prove they owned it. Nobody in Israel is seeking to steal anything. If only the Arab governments that kicked Jews out of their lands in the last half century were even half as attentive, we'd have many Jewish millionaires just from the land Arab governments stole from fleeing Jews. Next, remember that most of the abandoned villages were left by Arabs who expected to return after the Arab League defeated Israel, to occupy Jewish homes and properties. You don't mention that because it's harder to share your sentiment that Palestinians are victims when this is remembered that the Independence War (what you call Naqba/Catastrophe) was fought ONLY when Arabs refused to accept ANY compromise with Jews that left Jews with a state of ANY size. Given Arabs evil intentions, I'd hardly call those lands "stolen", but rather, "liberated". Lastly, if Israel's motive was to steal land, we wouldn't have 20% of our population as Arab citizens. There wouldn't be 3 million Arabs in the area of Judea, Samaria and Gaza. In fact, many if not most of the "abandoned villages" sit today, destroyed, within Israel's vast natural preserves, with no attempt to steal those lands at all. On all counts, the only thing that is laughable, Wissam, is your incredible tendentious ignorance of the facts.
48. Final peace deal ?
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (09.07.07)
There might be a peace deal but it won't be final. After the peace deal will be implemented a new wave of terror will start and the Palestinian government will declare they are too weak to intervene, or they will blame Israel for not carrying out their part.
49. all central israel will be just like sderot
aaron ,   ra'anana   (09.07.07)
The corrupt fatah "technocracy" (alek) will not be able to survive with all the gangs on the street. either hamas, or jihad, or al queda, or the al aqsa martyr's brigade will ultimately rule the street these gangs will be able to smuggle arms with impunity from jordan and from gaza too via the 'land connector' the political and IDF leadership will be just as effective in stopping the launching of kassams from kalkiliyah into kfar saba and ra'anana, and from jenin to afula, and from shechem to netanya, as they are today in stopping kassams from gaza to sderot and ashkelon that is to say they will be completely impotent and ineffective within the space of a few years the reality of sderot will be forced on kfar saba, ra'anana, netanya, rosh ha ayin, west jerusalem, modiin, and afula prepare now for a collapse of real estate prices in kfar saba, netanya, ranaana, modiin, caesaria, hedera not unlike the collapse of real estate today in sderot and south ashkelon. prepare for an exodus of large segments of the working population, both secular and religious, who are able to obtain visas to countries where they will not be exposed to sporadic rocket fire prepare for continued looting in the legacy of ariel sharon and his kadima party of the state of israel, of the birthright of the jewish people and of the blood and soul of the jewish nation, as their uncontrollable and inhuman greed drive them to sell their countrymen out to their enemies. Why are the ostensibly jewish parties Shas and UTJ and the alledgedly zionist party Yisrael Beiteinu participating in this disastrous Olmert government which has in its short life only brought disaster to the state of israel ??? if you voted for Shas or Yisrael Beitenu you should call your representatives and tell them how upset you are that the State of Israel is being looted and dismantled by the master criminals Ehud Olmert, Haim Ramon, Tzachi Hanegbi, Avraham Hirschenson as played by Roni Bar On, and Gideon Ezra. call now! its not too late to bring about new elections!
50. without a civic referendum
(09.07.07)
this will never happen. there is no way the israeli public would go for this. most would rather stay in this unbearable situation than have to give up more land and completely diminish whatever security and buffer zones they now have. no way the public would go for it and bib said that when he is elected there is no way that his party would acknowledge these concessions made by the previous party. so, have election now!!!!!!
51. Don't be naive Jason #31
Brod ,   USA   (09.07.07)
The Islamist-Jihadists have been trying to wipe out the Jews since their emergence in the Arabian Desert in the 7th century. More recently, since WWII, they have waged wars against Israel intending to wipe it off the map. Now, one of their sponsors-the Ayatollahists are feverishly working on their nukes and have repeatedly announced to the world that they want to vaporize Israel. Do you really think the dark forces have peace in their mind? Awash in their Jihadism and the teachings of the Koran to hate Jews and Christians, peace is definitely not in their agenda. This is just a step toward fulfilling their Jihadism on Israel. Do more reading on books related to this subject by brilliant experts such as Robert Spencer, Mark A. Gabriel PhD, Gregory M. 53. DEMAND OUR SOLDIERS BACK BEFORE ANOTHER 'GESTURE' IS MADE!
David ,   Hartford USA   (09.07.07)
Why is the PA incapable of getting the 3 soldiers released? A) Because they don't want to, or B) Because they can't. Both cases prove that Abbas and ilk cannot be trusted. Period. Does Abbas promise Jews living in PA areas will be treated with respect and not harmed? Of course not. The second Israel makes this 'goodwill gesture' and pulls out, Jews will be killed by our 'honorable' neighbors. Maybe Israel is doomed to follow this path to show the world how much they were willing to give up. But when the poop hits the fan, as it surely will, there will be no 'measured' response from Israel- they will have all the authority they need to obliterate this cancer once and for all.

57. Piece Plan
Martin ,   Boston, USA   (09.07.07)
For every person who cares about the survival of Israel and the Jewish people, Dr. Kenneth Levin's book "The Oslo Syndrome: Delusions of a People Under Siege" is a must-read. The common thread of this delusional illness is that the individual is under attack from external forces over which, in reality, they have no control. The abused child has no control over the abusing parents and the Jew under siege has no real control over the hatred of the Jew-baiters. But, accepting the reality that they have no control over their abusers is very difficult for some minds and leads to despair. In order to ward off despair, some Jews under siege, like the abused child, begin to accept and internalize the indictments of their tormentors. They convince themselves that they themselves must be at fault somehow and that if they could just change in some magical way or come up with the right package of concessions to their abusers, they can stop the abuse. This gives them the illusion that they are in control of their own destiny. Whenever a person suffers from a distorted perception of reality which can not be changed even by confronting them with facts or by rational argument, that is the classic definition of delusional. Individual Jews afflicted have been known to deny their Jewishness, convert to other faiths, or become so deranged that they become the so-called “self-hating Jew,” some of whom have been the most vicious anti-Semites in history; Naom Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein, Ilan Pappe to name a few. Israel is under siege to Arab rejectionism and pervasive Arab Jew-hatred. Faced with this enmity, some Israelis have become “tired of fighting” and “tired of winning.” They have constructed an alternate delusional reality in which they give themselves the illusion of control by convincing themselves that if they can just come up with the right combination of concessions to the Palestinians they will succeed in stopping the pervasive Jew-hatred and rejectionism of the Arabs and achieve peace. The reality is that peace will not come until the Arabs decide it is time. Israel has no control whatsoever over that decision. The Arabs and only the Arabs control that timetable. Hence the belief that anything Israel does by way of trying to appease her tormentors is a psychotic delusion of people under siege. It is an extremely dangerous psychosis which leads to self-destructive behavior as the deluded try harder and harder to appease their tormentors. Ultimately, they achieve the reverse. When a prime minister of Israel is more concerned about “collective punishment” of the enemy than the collective punishment the enemy is inflicting in Sderot, we see clear proof of his psychotic delusional state. When the foreign minister is more concerned about the potential “humanitarian crisis” among the Jew-haters of Gaza if their electricity is cut off than she is about the existing humanitarian crisis of the Jews in Sderot, caused by the missiles from Gaza, you see clear proof of how seriously ill she is with this disease. Like any psychotic, those afflicted with this delusional syndrome have little insight into their disease and act out on their delusions, often with disastrous consequences to themselves and others. Some of the afflicted will even lash out and attack those who have the temerity to confront them with the facts and an accurate picture of reality In order to protect itself, those Israelis who do not suffer from this delusion must act to remove the psychotic from positions of power and replace them with people possessed of a firm grip on reality. So long as the government of Israel remains in the control of the delusional, the prognosis for Israel’s survival is, God forgive me, grim indeed.

59. Israel has Judenrat not a government.
AK   (09.07.07)
How did it come to that? After all the sacrifices, wars and victories Israel ends up being led by soulless cowards. I think the readiness, even eagerness to give away the most holy site of Judaism is the clue -- Israeli elites hate Judaism more than wish to preserve Israel. And Israeli Haredi community is no better: willing to fight over a gay parade, but not over the desecration of the Temple Mount by Muslims. Ramon, the man convicted for criminal and immoral behavior is just the person to represent this government in this dishonorable endeavor.
60. #38 Olmert will do it, even if it's illegal under the law
AK   (09.07.07)
And Israeli High Court will back him, since that court has proven itself to have little to do with LAW and all with Politics. It is up to ordinary Israelis to stop this betrayal in the streets.
