DR ,   Florida, USA   (09.14.07)
and call these allegations lies? Of course the US only wants to go to war and kill eveyrone...this is how we are raised, right?
2. Another case of deja vu
Stacie ,   Canada   (09.14.07)
Saddam's WMDs and meetings with Al-Qaida. Why not nuke the entire region this time?
3. we were wondering when you'll believe the Associated Press

4. Assad's Suicide Wish
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (09.14.07)
Surely even this dim bulb must realize that hell will freeze over before Israel will allow him to develop a nuclear program in Syria. Israel will simply continue to do what it recently did. Flatten it!
5. common sense-where did it go to?
yahn goodey   (09.14.07)
why would the leader of a country like syria even think about wanting to have nukes when so many of his people live in poverty?its not like he has to lose sleep worrying we will invade syria if he doesnt have wmd's.russiahs putin is going the same way-the usa is just concerned about the mad ayatollahs launching nukes into europe so wants an anti-missile system built in east european countries(where its logical for them to be effective) just in case but putin sees that as a threat to him ?makes no sense unless putin agrees with what the nuts running iran are up to.
6. To # 2
R. Alkalai ,   USA   (09.14.07)
Stacie, just don't play with your dolls, or skip rope anywhere near the Euphrates River.
7. A note to the conspiracy theorists
Ariel ,   London   (09.14.07)
Er hem.. Just before you all give us a Morrison lecture on all the tired old battle weary rhetoric of burdensome conspiracy theories? just remember that nobody is yet accusing Syria of having a nuke. Just so you don't tell us that Israel and the US are planning to wipe Syria of the map. At least not yet. The article just says that there is suspicious activity going on that bears keeping an eye on. For now, that's all there is.
8. Sounds like a new lie of Saddam WMDs case

13. Now we can safely say
woww ,   LA   (09.15.07)
none of will ever know what really happened and judging by the sheer number of ideas that sprang up since, it might not even matter.
14. Ridiculous..........
MK ,   USA   (09.15.07)
I can't believe they even think that Syria is trying to obtain Nukes. Israel has 200-300 Nukes. Even if Syria tries to build any, first it will take years and years, and second it will never match the stockpiles of the Israeli Nukes. This is utter nonsense. Even Iraq's WMDs story was more reasonable than this. JUST STOP THIS NONSENSE ALREADY. Reporting such news is the dumbest thing in the world. It is creating fear in people out of NOTHING.
15. Here we go again, another BS from Bush team
cj ,   USA   (09.15.07)
Bush is determined to commit US to all Israel's war before he leaves office.
16. #7
Johannes ,   Berlin, Germany   (09.15.07)
Well, you are right; nobody claims that Syria already has nukes. However, TB #2 is perfectly right. Before the U.S. started its Iraq adventure, there was this suspicion that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. After Resolution 1441 entered into force, a lot of UN inspectors – among them Mohammad El Baradei and Hans Blix – went to Iraq in order to search for weapons of mass destruction and to monitor their destruction. Surprisingly enough, they did not find anything. That of course did not prevent Mr. Colin Powell to present faked evidence for the existence of weapons of mass destruction to the Security Council. We all know the result. The U.S. is trying to establish a democracy in Iraq. If it works out, they will try the deomcracy at home, too. Just for the record: In September 2005 Powell admitted in an interview he gave ABC that the evidence was faked and that this speech he gave at the UN is an eyesore on his career. There is a kind of dejà-vu.
17. Maybe It's All Show, But Be Cautious
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (09.15.07)
I agree with Bill Foonman. Syria will never be allowed to have nuclear weapons, or the ability to manufacture them. Israel certainly would take them out before they become operational. Unlike Iran, which has big country supporters (oil deals), Syria has no such base. Syria knows full well, that Israel would hit it's infrastructure, army, and plants, if push comes to shove. And have the blessings of the US. Assad, the myopic leader, is playing with dynamite on this one. He has 700 Scuds loaded to the gills...and doesn't need nukes, as per the article. But nukes do have that scary impact, which is maybe what he wants?
18. To #12
R.Alkalai ,   USA   (09.15.07)
Sure, and Kim Jong has been sending his nuclear technicians to Syria for tea and cucumber sandwhiches. And the real reason Kin Jong protested to the media was only because he has a deep, abiding regard of law - you know- the same regard he has always shown to his own people, as well as to South Korea.
19. 2 Another case of the leftist liberal.
freedom ,   canada   (09.15.07)
Do you really want an undemocratic dictatorship having nuclear weapons. We do well in Canada without them, or do we? The US is on our border, would it be a different story if they were not. Syria needs a change to democracy and TRUE religious freedom. Then again most of the Middle east needs that same change. God is on the side of good, read your Bible or your Koran you will see..
20. Look for the WMD in Syria...
Iraqi WMD can be ,   found ....   (09.15.07)
These "missing" WMD that were not found in Iraq CAN be easiliy located in Syria ( just dig a little deeper in its ground.).. after all - Sadam and Bashar were very good friends and shared common borders and goals.
21. heheh
Eric ,   Israel   (09.15.07)
In the past week they went from a country that may attack us via proxy to a country on the brink of Nuclear power? :) Wait wait....soon Hizbullah will be found with a nuclear reactor and then we can go to round 2 of bombing the world to the ground.
22. A Brave New World
Hani ,   Palestine Vagabond   (09.15.07)
It's comical how most of you cannot grapple with reality. Here are the raw facts: * Bush has failed squarely in Iraq. Obama and Clinton are right: Iraq is the largest disaster of US foreign policy - one which could cost it its superpower status. * Thanks to Bush the Moron, the pittiful Ayatollahs in Iran have already developed weapons of mass death, following the path of the Zionist aggressors who currently wield them out in the open. * Bush has no politcal capital to expend against Iran. It's painfully simple, he cannot strike Iran because that 1) ruin the US military 2) open the gates of hell in the ME and world economy and 3)the democrats won't let him. * Zionists can't maintain their occupation and regional hegemony because they no longer have a deterant. And as TB's on all newspapers suggest, Zionists are panicking, and are lusting for any "victory" which can come their way following their defeat by Hezbollah. Israel should have made peace with its neighbors a long time ago and signed NPTs. I feat it's too late. Dog Eats Dog. Survival of the fittest. It's a brave new world.
23. And Syria is in center stage..
woww ,   LA   (09.15.07)
since this whole thing broke out. Or actually since the speculation about a possible war started about a month ago. If nothing else, they got the publicity. As they say there is no such thing as bad press, as long as they write about you, you are in the spot light and that's all that matters. It gives them at least an illusion of being a major player in the game.
24. How come Syria can have nuclear weapons?
Muhammad El- Quassar ,   Cairo, Egypt   (09.15.07)
Only the Zionist\American gang can have them? Syria has done nothing but promote peace in the area, unlike Israel which continues to provoke everybody. By Allah it will dissapear like all oppressing regims
25. #16 Peter Morris
Ariel ,   London   (09.15.07)
Well Johannes or Peter Morris or whoever you are. You say nobody claims that Syria has nukes. Perhaps I should refresh your memory, but didn't you claim in the talkback #197 on the Y-Net article 'Israel spots nuclear installations in Syria' that, and I quote... "Now Israel and the U.S. claim that Syria has nukes".... ? Just wondering. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3448829,00.html
26. #24
Logic ,   Israel   (09.15.07)
The "American gang" that you complain about puts close to $3B of food on your table each year. If you haven't noticed, Syria is a pariah state, even among Arab nations after they went to bed with Iran. Syria can't have WMD because they are a terror state. Look what they did to their own people at Hama. The free world is not going to take those chances. Finally, Allah seems to like Israel and America for some reason. There must be a heavenly reason those countries receive so many blessings...
27. #24 Muhammad El- Quassar - 100% BS
Scott   (09.15.07)
So Israel is an "oppressing regime"? You are unbelievable. Just make sure your government stays out - enjoy the Sinai you got back - FOR NOTHING & SHUT UP. If Allah is to do anything good - it will be to continue to see stupids like you and your country as losers.
28. Stcie #2 Resides In The Quaint, Insignificance
Neil Kelly ,   Boston, USA   (09.15.07)
to our north Get your act together - those lax immigration laws in canadia will surely come to bite you in the keester ask europe about that
29. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan work and friend in the Netherlands
Henk SLEBOS ,   AMSTERDAM   (09.15.07)
A.Q. Khan, the "Father of the Islamic Atomic Bomb", thinks the bomb is essential to protect Islam against assault from those who hate Islam. He obtained the degree of Master of Science (Technology) in 1967 from Delft University of Technology, Holland, and a Doctor of Engineering degree in metallurgical engineering from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium in 1972. In 1972, the year he received his PhD, Khan joined the staff of the Physical Dynamics Research Laboratory (FDO) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. FDO was a subcontractor for URENCO, the uranium enrichment facility at Almelo in the Netherlands, which had been established in 1970 by the United Kingdom, West Germany, and the Netherlands to assure a supply of enriched uranium for the European nuclear reactors. The URENCO facility used Zippe-type centrifuge technology to separate the fissionable isotope uranium-235 out of uranium hexafluoride gas by spinning a mixture of the two isotopes at up to 100,000 revolutions a minute. The technical details of these centrifuge systems are regulated as secret information by export controls because they could be used for the purposes of nuclear proliferation. The former Dutch Prime Minister, Ruud Lubbers, said in early August 2005 that the Government of the Netherlands knew of Dr. A.Q. Khan "stealing" the secrets of nuclear technology but let him go on at two occasions after the CIA expressed their wish to continue monitoring his movements. A.Q. Khan admitted selling nuclear technology to Iran, Libya, and North Korea. Khan's network is still up, stretching from Holland to Dubai and from China to South Asia, and involves numerous middlemen and suppliers. For more than 25 years Dutch businessman Henk Slebos, who befriended Abdul Qadeer Khan when they were students at Delft , played a key role in A. Q. Khan’s procurement network.
30. To # 2 : Stacie or maybe " STASI "
